Kind of on topic but with no evidence to back it up.. I remember a conversation a couple of years ago on Twitter between Alan White’s brother and I believe the bassist from Ocean Colour Scene. They seemed to suggest and be adamant that Noel had stolen the importance of being idle off somebody, even mentioning the guys name. It seemed to be someone they knew personally. I couldn’t find the guys music when I searched but admittedly I didn’t put a great deal of effort into looking. Would’ve been interesting to find out more about that. Just seemed a bit interesting that they actually mentioned the guys name, not just a random remark about the song. And obviously with Noel’s track record, it’s not far fetched. It’s Dead End Street by the Kinks. Maybe someone else ripped it off at the same time.

The main riff is stolen from Clean Prophet by The La's, written by Lee Mavers.

Anyway the name of the guy who they said it was ripped off from was someone I didn’t recognise, There was very little information on him when I searched, just bits. But they seemed to suggest the rip-off was a real big one and not just a riff like The La’s tune. If I get time, I’ll try to look back through the tweets (or maybe it was faceboom). It was just interesting that it come from a guy from Ocean colour scene and Paul Weller’s drummer, not just random folk. Edit: Marco Nelson was his name. From a very quick Google search, he has worked with Paul Weller and primal scream
