Is it just me that doesn't get all the fuss about gas panic? It seems like everyone on here loves the song but I think its average at least. Do people say they love it just cos liam has praised it in the past and because noel wrote it about shaking his drug addiction? I accept that the lyrics about noels cold turkey struggle with drugs are meaningful but I don't think much of the song. I think oasis get a bad press for songs not meaning much but who gives a fuck as long as they sound good?? Its almost the opposite forms with gas panic- the lyrics are powerful bit I don't think this makes a good song. William Shakespeare wrote good books but he wasn't a song writer!!

It's my favorite Oasis' song. Masterpiece. Insanely beautiful. But that's me, of course.

It's a song that broke away from the OASIS FORMULA a bit trippy , not for everybody , noel took a chance here , and I think succeded brilliant,ly , I also love the lp,think it gets bad rap , it was oasis taking a chance , something they're accused of never doing , then they do it and get roasted for trying to be edgy m they couldn't win , that song is one of there best imo,

You must be on drugs!?.... I suppose not everyone will hear what he or I can hear. The lyrics are brilliant yeah, but the melody is just as important in Gas Panic... I remember the first time I heard it - it hit me straight away, which doesn't always happen for me. For example, it took me 10 years to dig Slide Away, but Gas Panic was instant. Absolute bonifide classic!

Because it reveals a part of Oasis that we too often did not get to see. But taken in isolation, it is mind blowing.
The sound was a bit more expansive and the lyrics more personal and what we ended up with was a song that was remarkably more sinister and dark than your standard Oasis tune.
If some psychedelic songs sonically reveal the kaleidoscopic, colourful and all round exotic nature of drugs, then Gas Panic is the opposite of most psychedelic songs in that it used lyrics of paranoia (the chorus) and eerie imagery ('tongueless ghost of sin' etc), in addition to gloom-ridden and grim guitar effects to convey an almost dystopian effect of drugs on a person's life.
It's more psychedelic hell than the psychedelic haze of Champagne Supernova. I think Oasis 2000 onwards is pretty slim picking in regards to brilliant songs, mainly due to the unforgiveable decision of allowing Andy, Gem and Liam to contribute to 90% of terrible songs, but this one doesn't just stand out in regards to the 00s, but with the very very best of Oasis as a whole.
An amazing song - quite simply one of Oasis's greatest achievement.

One of my favorite Oasis songs, everything about it is perfect, especially the Familiar to Millions version. Noel's underlying monotone melody during the chorus gives me chills every time

How can you not like it? Melody and lyrics are equally brilliant. Instrumentally it's also excellent.

Definitely one of Oasis' biggest hidden gems.
Also one of my top 10, without a doubt. Live, it was even better. Really should have been kept in the setlist.

The last great Solo that Noel produced in Oasis, unique as well only Born On a Different Cloud came near to the vibe but the mixing on HC let that song down badly(and Liam's nose but that's for another topic). After this song and Roll It Over it feels like Noel could've taken more risks on the next forthcoming Oasis albums but then you got HC, DBTT and DOYS all of them are alright but not what it was expected, DOYS came close to it if only the quality of the second half didn't came short it would have been the best Oasis album, I guess it was never going to be.

It's alright. I don't dislike it, but it's not one of my favourites either.

gas panic! is probably in my all-time top 10, if not in the top 5. love it. This. It took me quite a while to love it, though. I remember that after the first listen I was unimpressed. Then, one evening after a really shite day I had real shivers on my back while listening to it. Since that moment it became one of my all-time favourites...

Great song, but not a top 10 Oasis song for me. Top 20... maybe?
My only slight quarrels are: a) It never comes back down again. The starts quietly, then the drums & additional guitar kick in after about a minute and a half, but then they never go away, which is slightly annoying for a song longer than 6 minutes. b) It's tad repetitive. c) It's a tad long.

Never understood why they never played it after 2001. They played it the first leg of the HC tour, but didnt keep it till the end. I think Stockholm Circus was the last time it was played, not counting the DOYS soundcheck in Brazil (Rio Janeirio I think).

It never comes back down again. I'd argue it does, with the ending part where you having the odd sounds, the strings, and that ominous flute coming together to wrap it up. When you think of the meaning of the song, I think the whole thing is a panicky sort-of comedown (hence the name Gas Panic), but the ending is almost like a "relief" from the panic that had ensued during the song.

It takes a very special songwriter to be able to create such a beautiful song out of one's paranoia about impending flatulence. what the....no video?
