They tell me you've touched the face of god At the sound of a rope cracking on your neck They tell me you'd never give it up Like the song that was soul singing in your head
So honey please don't let go Or you'll fall in to the dead of night So honey please don't let go You've barely learnt to fly Cos their gonna point you up at the sky
The more that you want it The more that you need it I know that you'll be by my side In the heat of the moment When the thunder and lightning comes I know that you'll be by my side
That loving man ain't no rolling stone At the sound of the drums I'm gonna set you free I talked to him on the telephone These are the words that he gave to me
So honey please don't let go Or you'll fall in to the dead of night So honey please don't let go You've barely learnt to fly Cos their gonna point you up at the sky
The more that you want it The more that you need it I know that you'll be by my side In the heat of the moment When the thunder and lightning comes I know that you'll be by my side x 3
Here are the lyrics from what I can work out.

Actually, I hate calling things growers because it implies the song is poor and you just like it by drilling it into your head, but this really, really is a grower. Literally every time I play it again it just sounds better and more lively, I think it's really, properly great now, definitely on the same level as the singles from HFB1! I also remember hearing from someone reliable on here that Noel considers this the albums weakest track, I'd be surprised if that was the case, but he seemed fine with rubbishing it compared to The Ballad Of The Mighty I so maybe.
FUCK SAKE MARCH!? *cries*
You can't give us a great, exciting song like that, that's also a bit different sounding to really build up the hype for Chasing Yesterday then make us wait till March! You trolling bastard Noel!

I, personally, like the bells. The chimes add another dimension to it...there's a lot going on with this track, and with finally good production you can hear it all. Good on yer, Noel.

You trolling bastard Noel! To me a "grower" could just be a song that's good to begin with, or has some hook to it that makes you want to go back to it...and then you keep discovering more and more things to like about it. There's a lot of songs I hate, and the more I hear them, the more I hate them Growers are the songs that I already liked somewhat, but they become even better over time (that's just me though!) And yeah...March is too far away. Here's hoping they keep the interest and hype rolling with more singles, interviews, etc. and also some TV appearances.

Okay. I voted for Really Good. I've only heard it twice. Love the production and the melody is superb especially in the verses. The chorus is a little too run of the mill for Noel for my tastes. It's good but it does remind me of Lyla (in that both have relatively generic anthemic chorus) but this has slightly better melody. The production and the verses elevate this song. Love the blues and disco fusion going on. The grooves from both those genres carry this song.
New sounds from Noel is always a good thing especially when he combines it with his gift for melody. The verses are great. The chorus is good not amazing. The na's are weirdly cool. I think the Death of You & Me is better but I'm a huge fan of that song and this makes me really excited for the new album. Noel's production sounds surprisingly rich. Rich bass tones and cracking drums.
Its a promising start. I would be a little disappointed if this is one of the top 3-4 songs on the album though.

I really like the verses. The chorus is pretty generic but i love the "you'll be by my side" hook.
Generally it's a pretty good song. Radio friendly single.

I'd be interested in seeing the view count on YouTube by the end of today. I confess I am playing it over and over, not only because I like the song, but also to push up the view count (anything helps right?)

Yeah I think it's one of the very few Noel's songs where the verses are better than the chorus...chorus is pretty good, really catchy but not on Noel's top level (it's not So Sally Can Wait,d'you know what I mean?),but the verses are amazing When I heard those nananana for the first time I though "okay, wtf is this?" then I heard the first verse and I was blown away

Worked out the rough chords so you can play along with it if you want, I'm sure someone will work out a more accurate version soon enough but here you go.
Capo 2nd.
B,Asus,C#Min7,F# Nana's
F#,Asus,E,F# They tell me you've touched the face of god At the sound of a rope cracking on your neck They tell me you'd never give it up Like the song that was soul singing in your head
So honey please don't let go Or you'll fall in to the dead of night So honey please don't let go B,Asus,C#Min7 You've barely learnt to fly Cos their gonna point you up at the sky
F#,Asus,E,B The more that you want it The more that you need it I know that you'll be by my side In the heat of the moment When the thunder and lightning comes I know that you'll be by my side
That loving man ain't no rolling stone At the sound of the drums I'm gonna set you free I talked to him on the telephone These are the words that he gave to me

It doesn't really get me hard, but it's funky. I want to get smoke one and listen to this right now! lol
I feel like this will sound so much better live.. I wasn't really blown away with anything on the last album, but I got to see Noel live and everything sounded amazing.

I'm also not big on going into the nanana's right away.. the first few seconds sound crazy, and then it cut's to the cheezy nanana's right away... there's no build.

Yea I agree, Liam on the nanana's would save it. It's really just the tone of it that makes me cringe. Rest of the song is great.

Great little number, I see the comparisons have already begun so I'll cast my own.
Better first single than 'Second Bite Of The Apple', possibly 'The Death Of You And Me' as well. The nananananas are a little bit Beady Eye haha, not a bad thing though really. My song of the year so far anyway, I'm loving it.

It's a decent enough, solid effort. Does exactly what it says in the tin. Prefer it to the Death of You and Me

The heavy guitar distortion really, really works in the verses (post 25 secs). Would love to here a more guitar based mix of it. It's how 90's Oasis would of done it for sure.

For anyone who wanted something a bit heavier, yet more up-tempo, Noel was listening.
I'm very happy with this happy. Noel has greatly improved as a producer.
I feel like I want to really hear the album version. I think sound quality would be important on this track with so much happening.
In the end, just like TDOYAM, it's a perfect introduction to Noel. Hopefully the album will be as varied as this song.
