Some of those lyrics sound almost Liamesque

Some lyrics: “Maybe I believe in magic love Find it in the moon and starts above I drag you from a one horse town” “She never hears me when I speak I gotta find out where the magic sleeps And I can feel you underneath my skin” “I waited in the rain My feet too wet to stand in I shouted out your name Behind the rainbow’s end” “Going nowhere down the hill It’s hard to swallow like the pill That was twisted on your tongue By the sea that’s standing still” “You say you can’t feel the heat Behind the setting sun I got a feeling that what you are Might just be blowing away your mind” “Take me back to the town where I was born Coz I’m tired of being a stranger and miles from home” “And I was told The streets were paved with gold And there’d be no time for getting old when we were young” “Out of the blue I heard an angel say: ‘Give me your soul and I’ll be on my way’” Thanks to Alisson Our Noel ain't half a shit lyricist

I remember cringing when bits of TDOYAM were posted on twitter and it turned out to be one of my favourite songs.

I actually thought the lyrics of Mighty I were very good and thought this album would be brilliant, but these lyrics look pretty shit. Well, some of them. By the way, funny how he used to write songs about wanting to leave Manchester and stuff, and now he's written a song about wanting to go back

I was thinking "Damn, that's a fucked up track!"

The reason they look a bit ropey is because there's no tune to go along with it. Noel has a gift for melodies, not poetry.
If you took Morrissey, Dylan, Lennon or maybe Jarvis Cocker then a lot of their lyrics would look good without being associated with the music.
The lyrics for Supersonic would look monumentally shit had you not heard the song as well, yet because we've all heard it as it should be heard, the song as a complete package sounds brilliant, lyrics included.

It's a testament to Noel's melodic strength I suppose, that twenty years on, he's still making music that people in their droves, with lyrics that bad.

Tho reading another thread and Noel saying any liam sung song would be 10% better with nice voice is crazy.. he must be on the hardcore drugs again or saying crazy things in interview's to promote his album .. now thats a testament to him playing the press 20 years on..

He's probably just trying to wind up Liam. A bit of revenge for when Liam said he'd sing Everybody's On The Run much better than Noel.

I was like "woah this song is bad..oh"

All of them are guilty of some dodgy lyrics here and there but they are not really comparable to Noel. Noel simply isn't capable of the same skill in that department, especially in regard to the first two. But that isn't what he's about. Supersonic worked because of youth and arrogance and being backed by a killer tune. He would never have got away with Supersonic over the last few years. Certainly not to the same extent.

No one I think is in my tree I mean it must be high or low That is you can't you know tune in but it's all right That is I think it's not too bad I wholly agree, but imagine looking at those lyrics without knowing the tune

It's the same situation with Noel. The tune transforms the lyrics and gives them new life. This would work well without the music: Sounds of laughter, shades of life are ringing through my open ears Inciting and inviting me Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns It calls me on and on, across the universe

Noel is not the type of songwriter that would write something like:
Arabella's got some interstellar-gator skin boots And a helter skelter 'round her little finger and I ride it endlessly She's got a Barbarella silver swimsuit And when she needs to shelter from reality she takes a dip in my daydreams
Arabella's got a 70's head But she's a modern lover It's an exploration, she's made of outer space And her lips are like the galaxy's edge And her kiss the colour of a constellation falling into place
These are amazing lyrics, IMHO. Noel just writes something completely different, more personal, less difficult to understand, i guess.
Let me fly you to the moon My eyes have always followed you around the room 'Cause you're the only god that I will ever need
I think this line is pretty good, but completely different. He has his own style. It's simple, he's not mentioning the "Galaxy's edge" or outer space. More authentique.

How does one have a 70s head? And a helter skelter around the finger?

You've got the best of both worlds with that song. Brilliant lines like: Some might say you don't believe in heaven Go and tell it to the man who lives in hell And then something like: And my dog's been itchin' Itchin' in the Spam Message: once again. The mind boggles. EDIT: For some reason it won't let me post the word 'K I T C H E N'. Anyway, you all know the lyrics.

How does one have a 70s head? And a helter skelter around the finger? surely the helter skelter around the finger mean she has him "wrapped round her little finger" which he knows but "the ride" is so good he loves it .. clever lyrics i think.
