Colin is well Colin. He’s like the Jerry of the band. Jerry from Rick and Morty. Haha, love this.

Ha! Jonny Greenwood made it into Private Eye's 'Pseuds Corner' in the latest issue for 1st-14th November: Wonder what the Gallagher bros. would make of this quote?

This ended up being a lot better and LONGER than I was expecting. Second half reminds me of the Foals. Great job Eddie!

Just given Pablo Honey a listen for the first time in full. I quite enjoyed it and thought it was a little stronger than I was expecting. It's understandably overshadowed by everything else they did but it's not a terrible debut. Stylistically it's very much up my street, inspired by a number of my favourite bands, from a period in music I enjoy perhaps more than any other. I think the record would have benefitted from the production sounding less thin than it does but otherwise I quite enjoyed it. If I was around in buying records in 93 I'd have picked the record up and looked forward to another release (and obviously completely thrilled by what they actually did produce). On first listen I thought 'You', 'Creep', 'Stop Whispering', 'Anyone Can Play Guitar', 'Prove Yourself' and 'Blow Out' were all decent album tracks with 'How Do You?', 'Thinking About You', 'Ripchord', 'I Can't' and 'Lurgee' all feeling somewhat filler. With a little playback here's how I'd rank the stuff I enjoyed: 1) Creep2) You 3) Stop Whispering4) Prove Yourself 5) Blow Out 6) Anyone Can Play GuitarIt'll be interesting to listen to the b-sides and other material from this era and compare it. 'Creep' obviously stands out as a single and to a lesser so does 'Stop Whispering' though I could understand why people wouldn't be so hot on that track.

So trendy to say its crap and weak. Ed said a years later this was the era of the band when they didn't know who they wanted to be so you have blend of several musical influences all over this record as the band is trying to find themselves and place in the world. If it weren't for the grunge movement, record executives and radio stations might not have given them the time of day but Creep paved the way. My highlights include: You Creep Lurgee Thinking About You I Can't Blow Out And just think, less than 2 years later they dropped The Bends which was leaps and bounds above Pablo Honey. A masterpiece. That is what is great about this band. Their growth and being fearless.

Very similar story to Blur actually, with a solid if unoriginal debut followed by an album where they established their own identity.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Radiohead recently and actually listened to all their studio albums over the past 5 days.
Not much has massively changed but Pablo Honey was a little bit weaker than I remember. I’ve always quite liked it, it’s obviously not up there with the subsequent albums but it had a certain charm but it really did nothing for me. Hail to the Thief is not a good album at all. It has moments but it’s so un-Radiohead to be so bloated and unfocused. The sound is all over the place and would have made a much better listen as a 10 track album without the filler. In Rainbows in gorgeous. Despite being a massive Radiohead fan at the time of release I never saw it as the massive return to form some did, I do now!
Still don’t rate KOL and think OK Computer is their best but overall ive throughly enjoyed my immersive Radiohead week😀

Did not know that, I agree with most of the omissions. Drunken Punchup, I Will and We Suck Young Blood could easily be b-sides. However I really like Backdrifts and would probably have it instead of Sit Down, Stand Up

Some combination of the below tracks: 2+2=5 Sit Down, Stand Up Go To Sleep Where I End and You Begin The Gloaming There There I Will (LA demo version) Punch Up At A Wedding Myxomatosis Wolf At The Door Gagging Order

Forgot to post that I saw Ed play in New York City on Monday. Small gig. Maybe 500-700 people. Sold out. He played 8 of the 9 album tracks plus 3 covers. Really fun night. So rare to catch a member of Radiohead in an intimate club gig. This was his third ever solo show and it was exciting to walk into a gig and literally know none of his upcoming material. All of it sounded extremely positive. Highlights were Shangri-La, Brasil, Olympik and Mass. Super happy for Ed.
Main set:
Love Story (Layo and Bushwacka cover)
Shangri-La
Banksters
Mass
Long Time Coming
Deep Days
On My Own (Ulrich Schnauss cover)
Sail On
Brasil
Encore:
Olympik
I Got The (Labi Siffre cover)

However I really like Backdrifts and would probably have it instead of Sit Down, Stand Up I'm not usually one for editing albums but this track-list is a definite improvement on the original. Backdrifts is similar to Where I End And You Begin, Drunken Punchup is similar to A Wolf At The Door, I like I Will but it's not a major track, same with We Suck Young Blood. So I don't think the album loses too much - it has more punch like this.

Are you aware of the meme among Radiohead fans – that the backing vocals you sing are mostly just you hollering your own name? I didn’t know it was a big thing online. But on tour around 2018, in North America, I noticed [the bit in Weird Fishes] had suddenly become ‘a moment’. People all yelling ‘ED!’ I thought to myself, this is really lovely. It actually became my favourite part of the night. It’s such a great line to be able to sing. You have to sing it at the very top of your voice. And everyone sings along! I love moments like that. www.clashmusic.com/features/ed-obrien-interviewed-after-this-lets-have-a-fcking-massive-party

Ed dropped a new single today...........Olympik...............it was definite highlight when I saw him in concert back in February, back when the world was still sane. If you told me this song was left over on an old hard drive in the Hansa studio I'd believe you!
