ANIMA is out folks. Download codes went out 6-7 hours ago. Pitchfork (for what it’s worth) named it best new music and gave it a 8.3. His highest solo score. This album isn’t for everyone and probably not for mid tier Radiohead fans. You gotta like electronics, IDM, Burial and appreciate flow. Beep bop beep beep bop bloop. I have not seen the short film yet. Still not out on Netflix in the USA. pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/thom-yorke-anima/

W...O...W
Live your life through interpretive dance dear Thom
The third act I felt was in some sense a lovely lyrical development from Ingenue The initial passage reminded me of Richard Ayoade’s The Double. So filmically, the first section - unfortunately - reminded me of Beyoncé’s Lemonade, not that it was referencing it but that we’ve seen this kind of thing recently. But it got better with the choreography on the tilted wall.
Look forward to appreciating the music over the next few days. I enjoy Atoms for Peace and Thom’s solo work so this holds great promise.

One of the best aspects of solo Thom is I never hear any of his songs and go “fuck! That should have been a Radiohead tune!”. He has a good filter for where material should end up.

Why do the Pitchfork crowd and, alas, solo Thom always think: lack of melody + random noises + inscrutable dissonance = good music...?
I don't think I'm sharing the same planet with these people.

So, I'd say we're probably closer to the next album than we are to the last one. What would everyone like LP10 to sound like? Personally, I'd like them to go dark again; In Rainbows, Limbs, and A Moon-Shaped Pool have all been a bit pretty, so now I'd like something like Amnesiac where it sounds as if you prised the album out of the hands of a corpse in a nuclear bunker. Apocalyptic Radiohead is my favourite. 2021 at the earliest. Everyone is busy for the rest of 2019. Next year they are doing the 20th anniversary of Kid A/Amnesiac boxset.

I'm slowly editing all the 18 disks into individual tracks and editing out all the filler. Hey! Did you ever finish this Herculean effort? Are the tracks available somewhere? Cheers!

Where's that Ed record? He said plenty of times that September but nothing yet. I think he said he was shooting for the fall which is only just beginning. Its all done we know that. Last we heard he was shopping for a record deal and distribution. That was over the early summer months. Ed recently spoke to a class of students at a recording studio and played his new album at that workshop. At this point nothing has emerged online on how it sounds. I hope it is good. I hope he can actually sing. I'll prob go see him on tour. Could be a fun release. He's known as the more straight forward member of the group but maybe he's got some surprises for us.

Thom Yorke’s on Desert Island Discs soon. No matter the guest, the selections are always fascinating so this one will be good.

The big news out of his DJ session/chat with BBC’s Gilles Peterson was that Thom is clearing his schedule completely early next year after some final USA shows. He’s “devoting” himself fully to an upcoming project but can’t tell us what it is yet but he’s super excited. It’s pretty easy to read between the lines. The Kid A boxset is coming. Been teased for two years. Treasure trove awaits. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0008x1k

Thom made a surprise appearance on The Colbert show last night. This really snuck up on me. Love how much press hes been doing this year (print, radio, tv) after seemingly almost zero for In Rainbows, King of Limbs, Moon Shaped Pool and his side projects. Supposedly Friday they are showing the song he performed last night. Rumored to be “Daily Battles”.
