I always hope for the best But let's face it ....noel is mid 40 s really don't see a rocker coming from him , he seems content on safe sound and songs nowadays , why I don't think he will pick up new fans for a long chart run , he will be number 1 in UK for a week msybe 2 but his days of gathering new fans thru electrifying gigs , and cool grooves are over , as long as it is good I don't care tho Oh man, if Noel isn't gonna get new fans what does that mean for Beady Eye? Even less fans Imo .....simple really. The young kids don't get this music anymore. Bdi not hip enough , noel has seemed to go lite rock or at least safe , so he may get more new people than bdi. But not enought imo to factor a long run. Again my opinion. Hope for best tho

You guys are often debating on fanbases, chart chances.
"It's the most arrogant song ever written, to play it live for fuckin' two people, in a Boardwalk" , Remember that ?
Rock N Roll Star.

I agree with people not getting into real music anymore. It's all the same generic stuff. This horrible song with drums that sounded like they were done with keyboards was on, with just some electronic crap and the DJ described it as "rocking". It was just a generic song, one in a dozen. Real rock is hard to find nowadays. It all sounds the same, except for a few acts of course.

Once Noel confirms that Dave Sardy did not produce his new album I am going to celebrate like the Rebels blowing up the Death Star.

I think people are gonna be disappointed if they want rock 'n roll and energy from Noel or BDi. Noel's getting up there in age and BDi lack the songs/songsmanship, and BDi aren't young themselves.
God bless.

Melody is far more important than rocking. HFB had that in abundance. All I want is quality songs with great melodies, they don't have to be rocking.
Essentially, I want pop songs rather than rock songs.

God bless. Noel writes timeless ,pure melodies,he can pull a top class melody and hook out his arse for fun. That's Noels appeal and always has been,he's one of the most gifted songwriters the UK has ever produced. He's not really "hip or cool" anymore but he's well respected amongst his peers and the general public and I think he gets fans from his hilarious interviews as well . I think he's found his "old age niche" now and he's trying to become an older statesman of UK music probably like Weller. Beady Eye are just a poor band with poor songs and are rightly virtually dead.

I actually think Noel did a great job in picking up new fans last time. He couldn't have had that sustained of a chart run the last time because of the remnants of the Oasis fanbase. The effects of that would have been felt early in the chart run. But HFB's stayed in the top 50 for god knows how long. That happens because an artist is picking up new fans along the way along with more of their old fanbase buying in. He did a lot of nice things. Had a big hit in WAL, extensively toured in America, and did a couple of good supporting slots with the RHCP, Jake Bugg, and Snow Patrol. Every single one of those things should help him this time around. His chart run won't be decided as much this time around a new fanbase coming along. It will be decided on how much he can keep the one he has. If he keeps the fanbase he had from the previous album then that's a win. If he adds on then it's icing on the cake (and probably causes him to take the next step from arenas).

I think HFB is a great album.
press play and I alkways end up listening to the whole thing. gotta admit to sometimes skip Record Machine STC and replace em with Simple Game of Genius and Alone On A rope, which are far better.
but for someone who never heard any of the demos, it must be pleasantly great. and I know for a fact 3 non-Oasis fan loved HFB.

Thing is, for an 'elder statesman' of rock, he is still seen as massively cool and hip with so much of the youth today. He's not like Paul Weller or U2 or whoever who primarily have a more mature audience, Noel stretches across demographics, from the scruffy kid on the street to the business person in the suit to the housewife. Liam doesn't attract the latter two definitely - Noel's got the pleasant sounding voice and more approachable character rather than the aggression and venom of Liam. And of course the great sense of melody and songs.

Noel Gallagher writes fuckin' hit songs. He was doing it when he was 24 and he's still doing it. It's as simple as that.

God bless. The funny thing is that as much people talk about Noel being mid-tempo, Beady Eye weren't that much more rocking on their own albums. DGSS was mostly mid-tempo light tunes. BE was darker, but it wasn't much heavier or rocking. It still had tunes like Soul Love, Soon Comes Tomorrow, Iz Rite, Don't Brother Me, Start Anew, Ballroom Figured. There are only three real "rockers" on that album: Face the Crowd (possibly the worst song), Shine A Light, and Flick of the Finger. But everything else is either mid-tempo pop tunes or slower tempo and drudging. In terms of mix of uptempo rockers and mid-tempo, there's not that much of a difference between HFB's and Beady Eye.

BDi need to take about 4 or 5 years off. fuck side chicks but use condoms this time, live life and find some inspiration besides making albums for the sake of making albums/to spite your brother. God bless.

God bless. You're on it today LIB That would be my estimation of Beady Eye. They lack consistency, sometimes within actual songs. I'd like to see them come back and write about something different. Something that actually has merit to them and is actually uplifting. Rather than the same crying over spilled milk lyrics.

And of course the great sense of melody and songs. I think his personality helps a lot in that sense. A lot (most) people see U2 specifically Bono as a vagina (which is a shame because they churn out some fantastic music). Noel comes across these days as generally funny and sarcastic and quite down to earth. I think he's purposely toned down his "act" from his "I hope Damon Albarn gets AIDS days" to be more respected.

Exactly. Oasis alone was a mid tempo band. They're slow fuckin' guys, let's face it haha

NGHFB1 was a good album, pretty much on par with the last few Oasis ones, however the lack of any real rock on it really limited my appreciation of it. Sure, melody is more important, but stick a little distortion somewhere for crying out loud. The album has a desperate lack of variety, edge or bite to it. Like someone said before, 'AKA...What A Life' shouldn't be the heaviest track on a Noel Gallagher written album.
Using his age as an accuse is really very poor in my eyes. He's not an old man. Thousands of musicians older than him play heavier music than what he is currently producing.

Plus it sounded absolutely sinister live.

Tracks like 'Rock 'n' Roll Star', 'Bring It On Down', 'Cigarettes & Alcohol', 'Headshrinker', 'Morning Glory' and 'DYKWIM' always have been my Oasis preferences, and this side of his musicianship seems to have been abandoned after SOTSOG (minus TSOTL). Really far, far too early.

Well it is Noel Gallagher after all, you know, the guy who stopped writing guitar solos at the age of 32. this side of his musicianship seems to have been abandoned after SOTSOG (minus TSOTL). Really far, far too early. Interesting to think how important the events of 1998-2000 were on Oasis's second half of their career and how little we know about them. Lots of important but understated events: -The backlash against BHN and constant criticism of the band for being too over-the-top -Noel going cold turkey and finding new inspiration for songwriting (from "Gas Panic" to "PYMWYMI") -Reaction to BHN "failure" is a much more contained and less inhibited approach to future records -Band trying to rebuild themselves and find a new sense of purpose as the world of pop music changed drastically from the mid 90s, "Oasis aren't fashionable anymore" -Bonehead and Guigsy leaving and being replaced by Andy and Gem -Reception to SOTSOG, a new and very different Oasis record, is largely mixed -The risk-taking record and approach is "punished", which is another blow to the band's invincibility and led to the play-it-safe retread of HC -The SOTSOG world tour is for the first time, a "greatest hits" setlist. No acoustic set and somewhat mechanical performances, given the fact that new members are in -The personal problems going on during the SOTSOG tour, Barcelona incident We really need a good detailed book on this period, which I think is one of the most important in their history.
