YES!Monday can't come quick enough! Same mimmi! Mondays are always a busy day for me but I'll be itching to hear the new single. If there's a deluxe or bonus edition I will be purchasing that as well

I have to say, I always thought the BHN reissue would take ages to come out but it would be released before RA put anything new out. Looks like I was wrong.

Hopefully tour dates will be announced too. It's been 6 years since I saw him!

Listening to the new single as I type. First I thought it might be the same style as United Nations, but it's not. Loving the song and I can't dream of a better birthday present for me this year.
Welcome back Richard!

Looks like no physical release for the single, album includes a download code which is good though.
Great to have Richard back!

This worries me a bit though... The Verve frontman will release his fourth solo album 'These People' on May 20, which he describes in a cryptic statement as concerning "some personal and world events [taking] a dark turn leading to a sense of urgency and a clearing of the mind". The album tackles topics such as the war in Syria, the Arab Spring uprisings and the death of a close friend because, as Ashcroft’s statement reads, "to do nothing would be a crime in this sick nihilistic age of war". The singer also claimed he had been "experimenting with old and new equipment trying to find new textures and sounds to accompany an ancient art" and credited last year’s spate of acoustic shows in Mexico, Zurich and Bilbao for helping him realise "my lane in the chaos becomes clearer – to be a modern day troubadour". www.nme.com/news/richard-ashcroft/91718

Some of his work previously has been a bit like that, Why Not Nothing? springs to mind.

It doesn't say much about the music, does it? And my impression is that Richard gets rather criticised for writing only about his wife "lately", so it might actually be a good thing that he focusses on other topics as well. I'd say he was or is best when he writes about depressing things, so these "world events" might actually have a creative impact on him, which would be the first and only good thing about it.

I like this a lot - much of Richard's solo stuff took a while to grow on me but my immediate response to this very positive.

Intro sounds a bit lennon-solo-esque to me, I like it.
Bit too poppy though for my liking, hope the whole album isn't like that.
Nice vox/lyrics though (of course)!

Because I always worry when musicians start writing about "big issues" - the results tend to be mawkish, oversimplistic and a bit embarrassing. Kind of like this... Also, I don't think Richard's track record of "issuey" songs is too great. Sweet Brother Malcolm and Why Not Nothing spring to mind.

Great song. Love the high pitched "oooo's" he does at 4:20. Looking forward to the album.
