Sooner or later we gotta have a Liam and Richard duet. That could be the icing on the cake for LG's third album...

Sooner or later we gotta have a Liam and Richard duet. That could be the icing on the cake for LG's third album... Don't think Ashcroft would appeal to many younger listeners of Liam. And besides, he's written nothing but absolute drivel these days so he'd drag Liam down and I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

What do we reckon, then, as a possible tracklist should this go ahead? Just for fun, like.
Ashcroft probably will want to get something off his latest albums in (but there's literally only one or two tracks that come close to being half as good as his early solo stuff or Verve, so screw that).
Being realistic, I'll say a 14-song album.
1. Everybody 2. Sonnet 3. Break The Night With Colour 4. New York 5. Space And Time 6. You On My Mind In My Sleep 7. The Drugs Don't Work 8. On Your Own 9. Lucky Man 10. A Song For The Lovers 11. History 12. Lord I've Been Trying 13. Bittersweet Symphony 14. See You In The Next One (Have A Good Time)
Honourable mention for You And Me (I always assumed that was Ashcroft solo but could be wrong!) and On A Beach could easily get in for me too.

Perhaps I exaggerated a tad lol 😂 Yeah, I certainly wouldn’t view Richard’s involvement as a marketing tool to boost appeal. For that, the right collaboration that’s been rumoured would maybe be Foo Fighters Regarding RA’s output, I’m not too well up on his solo stuff bar some of the early hits, but a LOT of people told me they hated his last album so you may have a point. Id only really be thinking of him to sing something with Liam though, as opposed to writing it as well.

I had a dream last night that I spoke to Richard Ashcroft (and his mother) on the phone.
In the dream, listening to a Richard Ashcroft LP, I decide to give him a call and chat. I find a number, ring it. His mother picks up and I speak to her for a bit, just to explain myself and why I’m calling. “Would you like to talk him, then?” I didn’t expect to have this opportunity but I’m glad for it.
We talk about his most recent album, Natural Rebel, even though it is now 2 years out, and any ideas or plans for a new one. We talk about how he’s so well able to capture joy in his songs whereas most artists seem to find sadness easier to capture in song. We talk about the enduring legacy of Bittersweet Symphony and how his feelings about the song have evolved over the years. He is friendly and pleasant to chat. I am of course quick to mention how much I adore his work with The Verve but also his solo efforts. I am appreciate for his time and kindness and our call concludes.

I don't think he's done anything as a solo artist that's great. Some good tracks, but nothing that can touch Urban Hymns. It's a shame that the tracks that didn't make it on to Urban Hymns: Jalfrezi, Sweet & Sour, and All Ways Are Maybes are better than virtually everything he's done since! I know the ship has sailed, but he needs the rest of the band, especially Nick.
