jordan71421 was there a reason Johnny went on so early? 7:30 PM seems odd. My ticket says 8 PM but I assume that's the opening act. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that there was a show after Johnny! The Dirty Heads were playing at 11 PM so Johnny was the early show! Kind of crazy but the venue managed to get everyone out in time for the second band!

That makes perfect sense now that you mention it. Well I bought a ticket for Friday. This will be technically the second time seeming Johnny. First was with Modest Mouse back in 2007.

Enjoy the gig Lennon.
I read by jordan's post that you have a different support act in his US tour than UK/European one. Childhood supported Johnny in this side of the ocean and I liked them.

Just got home from the show tonight in Asbury Park, New Jersey at the Stone Pony..........
Johnny was in great form and played for a solid 90 minutes. This is was first time seeing him solo. I did see him play with Modest Mouse back in April of 2007. All the songs were uptempo and the crowd of all ages ate it up. My highlights were:
- New Town Velocity - Easy Money - Headmaster Ritual - Candidate - Right Thing Right - I Fought The Law - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (Dedicated to Bruce Springsteen and all of us in the crowd)
How Soon Is Now was a massive sing along. I was impressed how well Johnny sang all The Smiths songs. Fantastic job. I bought Playland and rocked it out on the drive home from the show. I bought my bro the red t-shirt that says "Johnny Fucking Marr".
Awesome night all around except for the two 6'5" blonde hair East German looking Olympians standing in front of me and my friend until we relocated. Seriously, these guys look like they won medals for the soviets in the 80s. Fucking Bolsheviks!!!!
I didn't stick around long after the gig. It's freezing in NJ at the moment so no Johnny Marr meeting this time around. I would have definitely have asked him about The Ballad of The Mighty I but now someone else will have to play hero. Perhaps tomorrow night in Brooklyn.

Johnny Marr played the CBS This Morning Show (How random) on Saturday. He also played "Easy Money".

Lennon2217, did he play "Candidate" at his NY gig? He didn't in Amsterdam which was a shame as it's my very favourite song from his album. I was quite happy that he sung all the lyrics of The Smiths songs correct and I was speachless when he started to play "Still Ill" for encore with a rose holding in his mouth. It was my greatest moment for "The Smiths forever". I love this guy and I love The Smiths more than I can tell.

I'm glad I picked up Playland after the show. I hadn't yet listened to it outside the singles. I think it's better than his debut. Sounds more dancey almost if that makes any sense.

Candidate is a tune!
Unfortunately it seems that he hasn't played This Tension yet, that's another of my favourites...

I still love "The Messenger" more than "Playland" to be honest. It's always special cos it's finally his first solo album ever after all those years. I do miss a song like "Lockdown" in his second album, but Johnny is a kind of "changing man". I'll follow him whatever he does.

I feel like if you were to combine the best tracks off both of his albums, you'd have one killer album. Something like:
The Right Thing Right Easy Money Dynamo The Messenger The Trap New Town Velocity Candidate Generate! Generate! European Me Upstarts This Tension

I wish more Oasis songs were liked that between 2000 and 2008. Especially around Heathen Chemistry.

I was just listening to The MEssenger this morning, what a terrific album. The songs are amazing and the whole atmosphere/feel/production of the album fits it perfectly. European Me, New Town Velocity, and Generate are my favourites. The first track is decent but the rest is terrific.
Still haven't picked up Playland yet, just heard the iTunes clips. I likely will get it.

"Boomslang" was a very good album. I think Johnny wanted to do something different (again) and more to rock with The Healers. Unfortunatelly their second album never saw the light.

For me, the Healers album wasn't bad but very bland and forgettable. The Messenger is 1000x better. It has a lot of character and the songs are gritty and glistening at the same time (somehow)
So far, of Playland, I like 25 Hours, Reach Out, and This Tension best.

new video/single for Johnny:
Many people are rating Dynamo as the best track on the album: I'm not, but it's a pretty good track for sure!

Johnny was forced to cancell all his following US dates due to his close family's serious illness. His statement is on his official website.
We wish all the best to you and your family, Johnny!

How was this gem of a song only used as a b-side?! What a great song That's his charm and also Moz's. Remember The Smith's B-side: "Handsome Devil" - B side to their debut single "Hand In Glove" "Wonderful Woman"- B side to "This Charming Man" (12 inch only) "These Things Take Time"- B side to "What Difference Does It Make?" (12 inch only) "Back To The Old House" - B side to "What Difference Does It Make?" "Girl Afraid" - B side to "Heaven Knows I'm Misrable Now" "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" - B side to "WIlliam, It Was Really Noghing" "How Soon Is Now?" - B side to "William, It Was Really Nothing" (12 inch only) "Well I Wonder" - B side to "How Soon Is Now?" "Stretch Out And Wait" - B side to "Shakespear's Sister" "Asleep" - B side to "The Boy With The Thron In His Side" "Unloveable" - B side to "Bigmouth Strikes Again" "London" - B side to "Shoplifters Of The World Unite" "Sweet And Tender Holoigan" - B side to Sheila Take A Bow Can you imagine the songs like "These Things Take Time", "Girl Afraid", "Back To The Old House" were B side? It's one of The Smith's greatness and young Noel Gallagher ever thought like "If I ever form a band, I want to have B sides as great as A side just like The Smiths had".
