OK, where do I sign?  The show yesterday in Vienna was brilliant! I thoroughly enjoyed myself and danced and shook my feet and head off (I literally only dance at concerts or when I'm drunk and it shows  ) and so did the friend I brought along, who does not really know much about Johnny or The Smiths, but she loves music and concerts, so she was happy to come along and did not regret it, of course not! I gave her my Smiths Best of, so trying my best to convert her!
Flex is not too big and as far as I know it was sold out, and packed. (Sadly, Peter Hook at the same venue a few weeks ago wasn't, I mean, good for us but not for him!) As I am not too tall and the-biggest-man-on-earth that usually stands in front of me seemingly brought his whole clan, I did not see much of Johnny, which is a bit of a shame, would have loved to watch him play! That was a downside to not being alone, usually I roam around the venue to evade the giants and chatterboxes, but I could not do that with my even smaller friend in tow. Still, no regrets, it was great fun to share that with her.
So I played "spot the Johnny" to catch a glimpse now and then and he seemed very happy and apparently had fun. He was quite talkative as well.
As for the music, I think it was the same setlist he keeps playing on that tour and his own songs fitted nicely within the Smiths ones, which, of course, got the most enthusiasm, but the solo ones as well, it was a great mood in the venue. What was funny, I knew he'd play one or two Electronic ones which I do not really know yet, but it was easy to pick them out, as they sounded slightly Sumner-ish. Of course, checking out Electronic and the rest of Johnny's solo albums is now high on my list. For me personally, two songs stood out. "Walk into the sea", which I did not really notice that much on the album, did things to me, omg, that was beautiful! And, might be uncool to adore one of the most famous songs, but "How soon is now", bloody hell! I kept kissing my folded hands a bit bizarrely (one of those "what the hell are you doing girl?" moments) because I was so overcome with emotions hearing that live. Bucket list! Also, apparently "There is a light" is a "grown men fall into each others arms" song, as two of my giants did that in front ot me.

Welcome to the mighty "L4E Johnny Fucking Marr Fan Club", Ms.   I'm so glad to hear that you and your friend enjoyed the gig! I saw him at his album launch show in May and he looked really enjoying to play. His band is tight as ever and they got along very well. Johnny's been good friends with Iwan and Jack for a long time as he produced 2 albums for their former band and Doviak has been produced Johnny's solo albums together with Johnny. Walk Into The Sea is absolute my favourite song from the album and live version as well. I heard this song for the first time live before album came out and I fell into love with the song. It's so beautiful and I love how it starts, the intro - first guitar, then drums, bass, then all together. I've heard Moz's "How Soon Is Now" at one of 4 times when I saw him and what can I say? Nobody can beat the intro, but Johnny! Shame that a group of giant men took your view, but take the best place of the venue next time! |

I'll certainly be there the next time and maybe I'm more lucky then. But it does not really take much away, just that I would have liked to watch him play and see more of his band, of course. But one of the best concerts in my life was Nick Cave where I did not see a hair of the guy, as he kept crouching or whatever! Still, it was really great yesterday and I keep falling in love with that album more and more. Certainly my album of the year. Between the main part and the encore, we did have that "Johnny, Johnny fucking Marr" chant, quite obvious I guess. There was much love in the air last night for him and totally deserved. |

I recommend you to get "Comet Tripper", joladella Which one would you recommend, London or Manchester? I bought both nights as CD's and a triple coloured vinyl of London show. Both nights have a bonus - Matt Johnson joining for "Summer In The City" in London and Johnny covering "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" in Manchester. I would say get both, but if you have to pick only one, I would say London because of Matt and Johnny sharing the stage after decades! |

It was my 6th time seeing Johnny and meeting him for the second time. The gig was brilliant. Venue was bigger than the one he played for album launch in May, but a good thing of the gigs in this country, we barely have a barrier (except arena). His band was tight and Johnny was on fire. He was having a fun during the gig, making jokes and smiling. When he asked if anyone had a request, somebody shouted some song by The Jam, then Johnny was like "eh...that's not my song. That's Paul Weller's song. I'm not gonna play it", but we all knew he was gonna play Get The Message. My highlight was (as I expected and same as the last time) Walk Into The Sea. It's such a beautiful dramatic song. I love how the song built up from Doviak's keyboard, Johhny's guitar, Jack's drums, Iwan's bass, then all together in once. It's a brilliant song. Gig finished with You Just Haven't Earned Yet Baby, which was he didn't play last time. I nearly got tears again with singing along with There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. It was so beautiful to sharing beautiful moments with Johnny and his fans and no drunken dickheads at all! It was warm and love in the whole space. Some Johhny fans might hate Moz, but all those Smiths songs were created by Moz and Johnny together. Although I'm not keen on Moz's last album, I can't deny his genius lyrics. The Smiths are and always will be my number 1 life time band, but I love Johnny's solo work as much as I love The Smiths. Johnny's band members - Doviak, Jack and Iwan are lovely guys too, but you wouldn't notice Johnny if you see him on the street. He is such a lovely and down to earth guy despite of being so well known. When he hugged me, I felt like seeing my old friend again after so many years. Thank you Johnny for a wonderful time. Amsterdam was Thursday, durk. Last night he played in Antwerpen. I had lovely companies with fans from different countries at 2 of my past gigs, at Weller and Johnny. They all were polite and nice and it didn't feel like we didn't know each other before. We shared the same passion and love for our beloved musicians. Very positive vibe and nice experience. Great gigs could have done without annoying drunken dickheads, really. and joladella, your friends are right. He is a sweet skinny little devil, a forever boy with guitar in his hand. |

Melkweg looks like a great place to see a show! With capacity of 1500, it was the biggest solo gig Johnny has ever done in Amsterdam. He did play in the same venue with Modest Mouse once. He played at Paradiso Noord in 2014 and in May 2018 (capacity 550). Melkweg is the venue where Noel played his first solo gig too. I've seen a lot of bands in this venue - Weller x 3, The Coral, Travis, Modest Mouse, Ashcroft, The Strypes, Manics, Miles Kane, Jake Bugg etc. It's a former milk factory and a legendary venue Paradiso (former church) is just 5 minutes walk away. I'm so happy that you had a great night mimmihopps! I still have Johnny's guitar licks ringing in my ears... Thank you. and I still feel the warmness of Johnny's hug. I've framed the set list.  3 months lasted Comet Tour finished in London last night! Thank you Johnny, Doviak, Iwan, Jack and the crew for their fantastic job. Also thank you to the people that I shared great times at 2 of Johnny's gigs I've been to on this tour (Album launch show in May and last week). All those beautiful moments will never fade away. carlober, durk, joladella and all the other Johnny Fucking Marr fans on this forum, thank you for sharing our memories. I love you, but not as much as I love Johnny. |
