Let me put it this way: Little James > Hey Jude + Yesterday + Yellow Submarine The Beatles are the most influential band of all time, but Oasis is just the(!) band for me, with albums I would not trade for any of the Beatles'.

Oasis is my favorite, but The Beatles are the best and end of, what they did and achieved was monumental

The Beatles is like a long lasting marriage full of love, commitment and wonder - you knew they would never let you down.
Oasis is like a hot date - mesmerising at first, then goes and gets an oversized boobjob (Be Here Now) and you think 'oh dear oh dear, we can't be having that', then the relationship goes stale and you finally look at them and think 'you've really let yourself go' and end the relationship. But you look back at those first months, and the sex was A-MAZ-ING!
But it's nothing compared to marriage.

Someone should sue the Beatles for going 30 years forward in time and stealing all of Oasis' songs.

in my eyes it's a bit hard to compare the two pound-for-pound seeing as the beatles were strictly a studio band only by the time sgt. peppers rolled around, and oasis kept on playing live until the very (bitter) end.

Yeah but Oasis weren't at their top at the end. Without The Beatles Oasis wouldn't even exist. Think about that. Or at least they wouldn't sound the way they did.

Oasis are my favourite band of all time. I'll say that now even though it may not sound like it in the following paragraphs.
For me, The Beatles are objectively the greatest band of all time and are also one of my absolute favourites.
While not the best musicians technically, the partnership of Lennon-McCartney makes consists of undoubtedly the best songwriters in the modern era. Not only were they able to churn out catchy pop tunes with ease in the beginning, they were able to completely push the boundaries of rock music and redefine the genre. It's incredible to think that there's barely three years between songs like Love Me Do and then Tomorrow Never Knows. After Revolver and the beginning of the "blue-album era" Their albums were consistently excellent and I'm sure I've seen them all regularly listed in greatest album top tens (minus Yellow Submarine).
I remember Noel saying something along the lines of Oasis' debut album being better than The Beatles', The Who and The Stones'. He's absolutely right. As a debut, I think Definitely Maybe is only beaten by The Roses' debut. But that's another debate entirely. The Definitely Maybe era is Oasis' peak artistically. The live performances retained a lot of their early punkish style and charm, while still sounding like the real deal. Liam's voice has the perfect mix of youthful energy and extreme confidence. The problem is that it was never matched (another point that's been hotly debated), although they became more commercially successful for the three years following Definitely Maybe's release and were rightly the biggest band in the world.
To answer the original question, The Beatles at their peak are better than Oasis at their peak. The Beatles' peak could be considered to be anywhere between the release of Revolver and Abbey Road. That's six albums, not including Magical Mystery Tour. The fact that five out of these six albums are all frequently mentioned as people's favourite all time albums shows how consistent they were. The consensus is that Oasis's peak is either Definitely Maybe or Morning Glory. Of course there are some belters from their later albums, none of them could ever be considered to be timeless classics.
Oasis got worse after their debut; The Beatles got better...and better...and better...
And better!

Thing is, as much as I love the Beatles, I still prefer Oasis at their worst (HC/SOTSOG), they're just my type of band.
Imo Noel is a genius, 95% of the songs he writes all get to me in some way or another. The Beatles are without a doubt the biggest band ever and their songs are brilliant but I do think they are over-rated by many

Still can't believe this was a thread. I think if you did this same poll for Oasis against any other band in the world considering this is an Oasis forum Oasis would've won easily. Only The Beatles could top Oasis in a poll on Oasis' biggest forum.

I prefer Oasis, I listen to Oasis more and have more Oasis 'stuff' but the Beatles were a freak of nature. To have 3 of the greatest songwriters of all time in one band, who just happened to know each other from their youth and grow together to become what they did is quite phenomenal. How their music matured in those 8 years is quite incredible. The way they sounded and the sounds they created and crafted from A Hard Days Night to The White Album in just 4 years is unthinkable today. Today most bands take that time to do one album, The Beatles managed to fit in the rather good trio of Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt Pepper along the way (as well as The Magical Mystery Tour EP and write non-album tracks like Strawberry Fields Forever and Hello Goodbye)!! Oh yeah and Abbey Road is decent too I love Oasis but the Beatles are untouchable

YEA , sorry to disagree but i think there overrated .....if overrated means not dropping down and worshipping there every song people fawn over what a brilliant writer LENNON was ( Not to me ).. They win "best ever " in nearly every poll , if there not represented well in a poll threads are made about it or the radio station must be " sacrilegious " people go on about the BEATLES like there JESUS ...so YES that to me certainly is overrated ,,,,they were a good band , not my favorite , but they are the most popular . ....in my eyes THEY ARE VERY OVERRATED. they could not carry led Zeppelin instruments ......but that's my view ..... Some may say ZEP are overrated ...not me ....but I DEFINATLY say THE BEATLES are overated and John is the most overrated ........that don't mean im hating. It just means some people simply don't buy into there music as be all end all ........ My rant

While some of us might like Oasis more, but The Beatles changed not only everything about modern music (recording, production, performing in stadiums, etc.), they changed culture. There's no denying who is more culturally significant.
Personally, I think The Beatles were a better band. They had better songs and better albums, but before we all get into a flame war, that's my opinion, and taste is subjective.
