@id1edreamer and Lennon2217, EL VY last night was brilliant. Matt was quite wild. I had several moments that he might fall over me as he stood/walked on the edge of the stage. Venue was packed and he came on the stage with a plastic soup cup (!) in his hand saying "I wanted a plastic cup, but they didn't have one, so they gave me this...a plastic soup cup...I didn't want a glass because I might hurt someone". Same setlist as other gigs including She Drives Me Crazy and no encore. It was my first time seeing him without a couple of wine bottles next to him on the stage. "We don't do encore as we have no more song" (Matt) They sounded great live. Brent is really talented. I know 99% of the audiences last night, including me were there for Matt, but without Brent, this project would have never worked. It was my 4th time to see Mr. Berninger. I can wait peacefuly until he, Dessner brothers and Devendorf brothers bring us the new stuff.

I've never heard of Brent Knopf and Ramona Falls until Matt formed EL VY with him and I didn't do my homework about him before seeing them 2 days ago, BUT Brent really impressed me. What a talented musician. and now I'm checking Ramona Falls. My music journey never ends.

Finally gave the El VY record a spin. I think I was putting it off in case it ruined Matt Berninger's impressive 10 year streak.
That was silly of me.
If you need me I'll be the one in the lobby in the collared fuck me shirt. The green one. At least when I'm through drinking Malin and Goetz under the bed.

I'm getting into Ramona Falls (Brent Knopf's solo project) and now I can see Brent is the brain of EL VY. Matt is of course THE voice. If you have a chance, go to see them.

We are excited to announce that Day of the Dead, our years in the making celebration of the Grateful Dead’s music, will be released by 4AD on May 20th, 2016. Curated by Aaron and Bryce, Day of the Dead is a compilation of Grateful Dead covers featuring over 60 artists, 59 tracks and lasting almost 6 hours. The album will be released digitally, on a 5 x CD and as a limited edition vinyl boxed set, with all profits going to the Red Hot Organization’s mission to fight AIDS/HIV and related health issues around the world.
The songwriting of the Dead has always inspired us and this record is meant to celebrate their legacy. Growing up, the Grateful Dead was the first music that Aaron and Bryce bonded over. Their first-ever jam session was with Bryan, playing the Dead’s “Eyes of the World” in Bryan’s parent’s attic in Ohio. Now, so many years later, Aaron, Bryce, Scott and Bryan make up part of the house band featured on many of the record’s songs. Matt has joined his bandmates to interpret “Peggy-O,” “Morning Dew” and “I Know You Rider.”
We are also excited that a Day of the Dead live performance will take place this summer at Eaux Claires Festival (August 12-13), featuring some of the musicians who appear on the record including Bruce Hornsby, Jenny Lewis, Justin Vernon, Lucius, Matthew Houck, The National, Richard Reed Perry, Ruban Nielson, Sam Amidon and Will Oldham.
Working with such a diverse group of talented musicians and friends on this project was so much fun and we can’t wait to share the music with you. In the meantime, 4AD has put together a Spotify playlist matching the Day of the Dead tracklist which you can listen to play.spotify.com/user/4ad_official/playlist The full Day of the Dead tracklist and more info on the project is available www.dayofthedeadmusic.com/------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is very interesting, Lennon2217 and @id1edreamer. "Morning Dew" covered by The National: "New Speed Way Boogie" covered by Courteny Barnet:

For whatever reason I could never get into the Dead. Not sure why. I do live the Nationals cover of Morning Dew however. War On Drugs cover of Touch of Grey is fantastic.

To me their "Virginia EP" is very underrated, yet hidden masterpiece.

The National performed a new song last night. "The Day I Die". Pretty rocking tune and reminds me of their early days between 2000 and 2003.

I'm so happy that they still play "Available" live. This performance is from this benefit concert for the Syrian newcomer youth. We should do things like this more in this side of the ocean too instead of protesting by throwing stones and shouting like apes. welcometohamilton.org/They're playing at Down The Rabbit Hole in 2 weeks, but I'm not going, so Matt, you'll miss me this time.
