10 minutes to go. who else is listening tonight? I was in my warm bed, dreaming of Matt. matt: 'i screwed up the first verse. the first verse was wrong. let's do it again.' Aw, he did it again. He should have left his wine in backstage. You can listen to it again on here: www.npr.org/event/music/545815805/the-national-first-listen-live-presented-by-world-cafe-and-npr-musicnpr.org music is a truly fantastic website. It's where I discovered The National 10 years ago by an accident. I was looking for new music and found they broadcast The National gig in "all songs considered". and I just saw they're streaming Husker Du box set. Since BBC radio has no longer Evening Session and Peel Session, npr.org music is the place where all the music lovers are gathering. ...and don't forget KCRW

New album was waiting for me when I came home and I'm listening to it as I type. It's been a long time, but they did it!

...and once again i get the shaft for preordering an album. today is release day and i'm still waiting for my cd and vinyl. Hope yours are waiting for you when you come home today, my friend. I absolute love this album. Maybe more than the last album. Trouble Will Find Me was an another great album by theirs, but to me it was a bit "safe" and "mellow", but with this album, they're back to the roots, The National which made me got into them with "Boxer". I'm pretty sure their side projects like Matt doing EL VY and Bryce twins doing producing another bands gave them "freshness". I love this band, I've been following them for 10 years now and they still fascinate me.

So what's your favourite tracks from new album, Lennon2217, @id1edreamer? 'the system only dreams in total darkness', 'born to beg', 'turtleneck', 'guilty party', 'carin at the liquor store'. call me crazy, but 'the system....' reminds me of 'wake up your saints'. my vinyl arrived yesterday, it's white. looks like the blue one is the limited edition, oh well!

Blue vinyl is a limited edition and only available on their official website and indie record shops. Our record shop is selling it, but I gave it a go as I still have new releases to purchase coming months. My favourite tracks from new album are Nobody Else Will Be There, Day I Die, Walk It Back, The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness, Born To Beg, Turtleneck and Sleep Well Beast. I like Dark Side Of The Gym too although it sounds like a song which you'll hear at wedding. I was reading a booklet and it says: We are deeply grateful to the following musicians for their generous and indispensable contributions to this album: Benjamin Lanz - Trombone, synths Kyle Resnick - Trumpet, flugelhorn, voclas Lisa Hannigan - vocals ( eva!) Arone Dyer - vocals Justin Vernon - Synths, vocals Andi Toma - Keyboards Also a quite nice surprise was under "THANK YOU", a Dutch musician Maurits Westerik was mentioned too. Maurits was the front man/singer of a Dutch band called "Gem", but they broke up some years ago. He's done some solo work (he supported Weller in Utrecht in 2010) and now he's a front man of his new band called Bewilder. I've seen his former band Gem many times, but never seen Bewilder. Maurits is a really nice guy.

I think she does backing vocals in many tracks, Dark Side... for sure and apparently it's her speech sampled in Walk it Back www.newsweek.com/national-sleep-well-beast-karl-rove-662307

i think live she's been backing on Day I Day - providing a nice mix/contrast to the vocals

So what's your favourite tracks from new album, Lennon2217, @id1edreamer? I actually really love a fair amount of them. Still so early in the process. I'll list my favs outside the more talked about singles from previous months. - The Day I Die - Walk It Back (love the electronic pulse opening) - I'll Still Destroy You - Dark Side of The Gym Overall the album is a perfect blend of that classic National sound and evolving into more future sounds. The little sonic flourishes are a nice touch. Not abused or force fed.

UK/European/US tour has started and nearly all gigs are sold out. It's amazing that they became so well-known now. They deserve it after all those years of hard working. World finally found The National with High Violet, but I'm still happy that they still play "Available" live.
Support act for the US tour is Daughter. Man, it's like you get 2 main acts at once for me. Daughter is brilliant. I don't think they will support Euro tour, but I'd be very happy if Lisa Hannigan will!
