Feels like a 3 way conversation sometimes and that's definitely not the first time I posted those thoughts. it's unreal that they don't have more fans on here (maybe they are too... 'american'?) however i need to come clean and admit that i became a fan myself only about 5 years ago, when they played the first boston calling music festival and i heard 'high violet' for the first time.

The tickets for the two Berlin shows have just gone on sale. 50 € is quite expensive, surprises me a bit. Is it the same price everywhere?

No, not at all. At least to me, they're NOT too "American", but it's the other way around. Especially when you listen to their earlier albums, you can hear something common to British bands like Joy Division. I love dark and miserable music (funny, eh?) and "Boxer" (which made me got into them in 2007) was a perfect dark, miserable and beautiful album. But yes, it's always only us - you, Lennon2217 and me posting in this thread and you both are American. Maybe I'm a fake American, who knows.

I'd love to go, but I don't know where I will live then, so I don't know if I can manage to go there on a Monday/Tuesday. It annoys me, cause I really love them and I've never seen them live before.

Is it the same price everywhere? i got balcony tickets for boston, $44 a ticket (u.s. dollars). orchestra and pit (which i couldn't get anyway) went for upwards of $65-$70 a ticket. those prices are without fees. my pair of balcony tix with fees and tax came to like $120. i agree, i think those prices are a little on the high side, but it's the national, so...

The first Amsterdam show was sold out within 45 minutes, so they added the second night and it's still available, so if you can make it, you better hurry. www.ticketmaster.nl/event/the-national-tickets/188381

I'm surprised they released another subdued song. That's 3 in a row. Where are the more upbeat numbers? This is why so many people find the band "samey" all the time. I get that take.

I've listened to the three new songs yesterday, the first time I heard anything by the National (I'd heard about the band for years but never got to listen to a single of their songs). I don't know what the rest of their catalogue sounds like, but I thought these 3 songs, subdued as they may be, sound really good!
I'm gonna check their previous albums one of these days.

i get the subdued/samey thing - but think this recent one is one of the best The National songs i've ever heard.

Subdued doesn't mean bad. Just all similar.

I highly recommend you to listen to Boxer, Alligator and High Violet. These 3 albums are their best and Lennon2217 will agree. I got into them with Boxer in 2007 and it's still my most favourite album by The National, followed Alligator and High Violet. They became so well known now and they deserve it, but they've reached their top with High Violet. Yet it's good that some members have their own project - Matt doing EL VY and Dessner has been busy with producing other bands. They're still one of my most favourite bands though.

My wife signed me up for the record store club VINYL ME PLEASE for my birthday. Each month you get sent their record of the month. This month's is BOXER and it comes with a 7 inch of new songs from their upcoming album. I already own this album for well over a decade on vinyl but I'm happy to get it again and live in the spirit of the record store club. Definitely worth checking out if you want a vinyl club. www.vinylmeplease.com/record-of-the-month/
