i have been listening to 'high violet' in the car for the past week. utter perfection from start to finish. i don't think it will be possible for them to release an album that great ever again.

More people should listen to The National. But keep their hands off from my Mr. Berninger. This song is a Jewel from The Virginia EP.

Cool, seen them live on the last tour. Great band. Those tracktitles though, sounds like an uplifting album

Just pre-ordered the new album to get a pre-sale code.
It'll be my 4th The National gig. I'm glad that I've seen them in Paradiso back in 2010. It's been 4 years since when I saw them last time, but saw Matt as EL VY in 2015.

Those tracktitles though, sounds like an uplifting album the titles are interesting, aren't they? i can imagine some of the darker songs from 'high violet' fitting in quite nicely along side the new tracks on this tour's setlist

Really good song though - unfortunately, I'm not massively clued up on The National. I'll admit, I only first heard of them when High Violet was released (it was kind of their Seldom Seen Kid wasn't it?-) and I've got a few of their albums. They're definitely a band I need to check out a lot more as I haven't heard anything from them that is in anyway poor. A band that is on the radar for me for sure.

Really digging the new single. Sounds very modern compared to their older stuff. Great to finally hear some guitar solos! Very Grateful Dead-ish.

looks like matt (finally) cut his hair: It was about time! I really like the new song. Reminds me their early stuff. Sure, "Trouble Will Find Me" was an another great album by theirs, but it was a bit mellow. See you again, Mr. Berninger and his gang in October!

It was the first National album I heard and which made me got into them. It's the darkest National album and I think you'll like it.

I talked about the Elbow comparison, and I mean that in the most flattering way. Elbow are one of my favourites, and I see similarities in that even though they had a smash hit high selling album (aforementioned Seldom Seen Kid, and High Violet), they never lost their artistic integrity with that album - certainly, when I bought it, and then listening to it and other National songs from before, you can tell there's no concerted effort to gut their songs, and hollow them out for the mainstream. It seems like the mainstream found them, rather the other way round.

Sums up my knowledge (50%!) of them, but I'll give them a spin! EDIT: Must add, Bryan Devendorf is an exceptional drummer. Outstanding.
