He's been a personal hero of mine for a few years, a brilliant lyricist and musical pioneer. It's still a massive shock, he'll be missed.

I am shocked to say the least, just saw this breaking news on The Guardian site. A massive massive influence on many of my favourite bands.

This hit me like a ton of bricks. The past couple of years I've really developed a love for Velvet Underground and Lou. He is one of my biggest music influences on my life. A pure and true rock and roll icon.
I hope he, Andy, Streling, and Nico are having a good time up there.

Been listening to Velvet Underground all day and some of Lou's solo work as well.
Outside of Noel, it's Lou who has had the most influence on me musically. Still very bummed about this but damn this guy was such an artist in the true sense of the word. Reckless, innovative, uniquely talented, and to top it all off he was still cool as fuck in his seventies.
There will never be another Lou Reed. Still so much to uncover in his work.
Although its a sad day listening to his music never fails to fill me up with joy and inspiration. Sister Ray still gives me goosebumps.

But a shock/devastated? Younger people leading healthier life style sometimes pass away... that' s life I guess.

She says of her late husband: "Lou was a prince and a fighter"
Lou Reed's widow Laurie Anderson has penned an obituary for the iconic singer-songwriter. Published in Long Island, New York's East Hampton Star newspaper, the piece offers some insight into the final days of the Velvet Underground co-founder, who succumbed to liver disease on October 27 at the age of 71. "Last week I promised Lou to get him out of the hospital and come home to Springs," Anderson writes. "And we made it!" She continues: "Lou was a tai chi master and spent his last days here being happy and dazzled by the beauty and power and softness of nature. He died on Sunday morning looking at the trees and doing the famous 21 form of tai chi with just his musician hands moving through the air. Lou was a prince and a fighter and I know his songs of the pain and beauty in the world will fill many people with the incredible joy he felt for life." Anderson's letter follows a flood of tributes, praise, and remembrances dedicated to Reed. Since his passing, the late legend's album sales have surged dramatically. m.spin.com/articles/laurie-anderson-lou-reed-obituary-velvet-underground/?utm_source=spinfacebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=spinfacebook

I had the honor of seeing Lou Reed in concert once in my life. It was at the Highline Ballroom in New York City during the spring of 2008. He played a handful of Velvet Underground tunes and his famed solo material. Great show. I remember it fondly. Proper legend. He will be missed.

I'm still reeling from this. Loved the Velvet Underground and Lou Reed's solo material, especially Transformer.
He was an amazing songwriter, had a unique talent of capturing the grimmest, ugliest, alternative, neglected, marginalized people and things in society and make them beautiful. Made the music he wanted. No matter of trend, taste, or expectation. They truly don't make them how they used to and Lou Reed embodied that.
