The Bends is THE BEST PURE ROCK ALBUM OF THE 90s Not disagreeing outright with your opinion but I think you may need to define pure rock a little more outside 'Blur and Oasis do not fit in it' The Bends rocks harder than anything Oasis or Blur put out combined.

Smith Westerns and FIDLAR are the two most important up and coming rock n roll bands. Really looking forward to how these bands grow. Smith Westerns have the finest pop/rock songs that I've heard since Noel in his hey day (Varsity is the best song of the year for me) and FIDLAR is just pure rock and fucking roll. Awesome to know somebody else on this forum appreciates FIDLAR! Saw them live (had never heard of them before) and they blew the others at the event out of the water! (Except the Killers, what a great day that was) I ended up buying their CD. I agree they're going to go far if they stay on track!

Robert Plant? No thank you. His voice is the main reason I don't really care for Led Zeppelin. I don't get all the hype about Nirvana (maybe hype's not the right word). I do like the band even though I'm not really a huge fan of grunge but I never see them as one of the all time greats. I really struggle with The White Album. There's so much weird filler on it I can't ever consider it to be a Beatles classic. I don't like Michael Jackson. Kasabian's debut is an excellent album. Be Here Now is a triumph. Outside this forum, that's a very uncommon view. The Rolling Stones didn't produce an out-and-out classic album. I don't think Johnny Marr is a very good guitarist. Only joking about that last one.

Pink Floyd have never done it for me. No disrespect to them, would never say they're bad, but I just can't get into the music.

I'm not a fan of U2. Could never really get into their sound.
Not really into Primal Scream either, I really tried but I can't.
Here's a shocker (then again it may not be): Aside from recent tunes like the Dying of the Light, Riverman, Everybody's On the Run (even though that was written before the split), and most of the other songs on the 1st solo album, Noel's songwriting hasn't been its strongest lately. His melodies are great but something is really lacking with it. You Know We Can't Go Back is one of my favorite songs off of Chasing Yesterday but the lyrics are really lame.
"Maybe I believe in magic love, I find it in the moon and stars above I'll drag you from the one horse town that'll bring you down And I love you for all time"
^ Ew...

I love Probably All in the Mind, never understood the hate. It's even got a pretty cool solo in it, come on!
I love Sunny Day Real Estate, but I don't like other emo music.
I'm not the biggest metal guy, but I love Iron Maiden. However, never saw the appeal of Judas Priest or (especially) Motorhead. Only say this because people tend to evenly rank these three, including many of my metal friends.
I listen to Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd more than Waters and Gilmour's Pink Floyd. Not to knock them, they're amazing, but I just like Syd's psych-pop more.

Don't really like the Beatles very much at all. I get the contribution they made to music, but song wise I really only like 6 or 7 of them, and am not a fan of their voices at all bar a few songs(Let it Be, Twist and Shout, Baby It's You, Here Comes the Sun...)

Radiohead is snob pretentious hipster crap to me, and I hope the guy catches aids and die (kidding about that last thing).
I think Oasis is by far the best thing that ever happened to music. That's unpopular. But I truly believe it. It's the moderated balanced realization of everything music is about. Think about it. From electric wall of sound to acoustic, from liam's voice to noel's, from swag to humble, from wild rock star to love songs, from raw sensorial stimulation to philosophical themes, from massive popularity to intimate way of connecting with fans, from down to earth stuff to psychedelia, from neighbourhood bloke to universal themes in lyrics, from brotherly hate to love, boom and burst, sunshine and rain, rock and pop, euphoria and melancholy... etc etc etc. Oasis is everything. It's hidden, but they' are everything.

Woah. I agree on all of this, bar the last one of course. And it's a joke anyway. Yes, even on that thing you said about The White Album. It's an interesting album but I can't listen to it in it's entirety. I'd skip too much.

This is probably a veeeeery unpopular opinion but I don't give a fuck. I think Jimi Hendrix is a very overrated guitarist and I think there are better ones. I don't really care for him. I don't really like most of his stuff either.

Clapton is the most overrated guitarist of all time. His Yardbirds stuff is good (not amazing), Cream stuff is great, solo stuff pretty bad. He will always be too classic rock for me. I only really enjoy his Cream material.
The Velvet Underground is a top five band/artist of all time. Have 4 albums ever covered so much ground?
Fela Kuti should be recognized in the same vein as Bob Marley in terms of being the among the greatest 3rd World Artists of All Time.
Gil Scott-Heron, Funkadelic, and Curtis Mayfield > James Brown.
The Rolling Stones are really fuckin' awesome but truth is I don't truly love them like I do with other bands. Love their original take on rock n' roll and the blues though really created modern rock.
The Avalanches only album Since I Left You, is a masterpiece. I'd go as far as saying it is a piece of art. A sound collage of thousands of samples. It is a experience; it takes you on a journey like no other. It has a real character and ebb and flow; its funny, danceable, and cinematic.
This is definitely a tough choice I think Nick McCabe of the Verve from the late 80's to mid 90's is the greatest guitar player of his generation. Already There is one of my favorite songs ever because of his stunning work. Always a tasteful player who knew exactly what and when to overdub. Like Liam's voice his guitar playing really helped elevate some songs.

Nirvana are average Coldplay are good And going by this thread so far, my opinion of The Beatles being the best band ever by a long shot and Radiohead coming second isn't too popular either.
