One who does not find Roll it Over brilliant clearly does not have the same spiritual experience I get when listening to those final three minutes. Seriously, listen to it on a nice pair of speakers. Back in 2000, that song and Gas Panic signified to me that Oasis still had some "magic" left in them.
And NL4E, "build a barricade" is a million times better lyric than "build a better place". You clearly don't understand the song. The barricade represents a wall you put up, to shield yourself from the outside world. For once, this isn't a typical "look on the bright side" Oasis song, and it's so refreshing. Just like the rest of SOTSOG, it's a perfect song for when you're feeling lonely, lost or depressed.
That song and that entire album is so cathartic when getting over any major life problem. And that's why it'll always be one of my favorite albums, and I'll always be thankful to Noel for writing it.

As for the two Noel sung songs, WDIAGW is amazing, the guitar solo is ace and his singing is very powerfull.
SMC is good, but could have been even better if it was mainly acoustic, what I don't like is that the chorus is too long, but it really suffers for being next to WDIAGW, both are similar.

A shorter (3 min), more stripped back version of SMC would have served SOTSOG better. Splitting up WDIAGW and SMC isn't a bad idea looking back.

Should have had 'Let's All Make Believe' & 'Full On' with a vocal from Liam.
FITB is good to play as the band walk out on stage but I'd rather have a song with Liam or Noel on lead vocal.

its a good album, on the cusp of being a great one, if Noel picked a better track-list. One Way Road is a tune as is Let's All Make Believe. It's a bit different from the trilogy, and its obviously a transitional album, but its kinda the last magical/youthful Oasis album. There's still a classic Oasis feel in there, but its a little different and not watered down (like HC). Sure, its got a couple throwaways but I've always loved the vibe of this record. Wish they continued in this direction.

GLIO isn't an opener, LAMB shouldn't follow it, there's no flow to that tracklist. C- Needs further improvement.

Love that drum intro. Plus LAMB followed it on the GLIO single. Worked great in my opinion.

6. Gas Panic: I find it overrated on the forum, but this is exactly a perfect song for this album.. Agreed. A great song, and a perfect fit for the album. Good lyrics too. Still, it baffles me how people on here rank this song among their top 10 Oasis song, or even have it as their favorite. Oasis has done better, which says a lot.

It's an excellent album track and one of the finer post 2000 songs in general. However, unlike many, I do not think it should have been a single. Too long, too dark for commercial radio/tv in 2000.

Oasis should have kept going in this direction in my opinion. It was the one time they were genuinely trying something new and they were nearly there with it. It's half of a brilliant album but is let down by some absolute shockers, some of the worst songs Noel has ever written for an album.
The sound they were going for was the right idea, but the fact the album bombed in comparison to other Oasis albums burned Noels fingers when it came to experimentation a bit, I think it is very unlikely Noel tries anything like this again and the reaction to SOTSOG is probably a big reason why. Which is a shame, because it didn't matter what album Oasis put out in 2000 - the backlash was in full flow, they were more unfashionable than they've ever been. Put HC, DBTT or DOYS out in 2000 and I think they probably bomb too.
Should have persevered with this approach though.

Oasis was only a couple of tunes from making SOTSOG a more complete picture. Noel should have continued to wait, especially after Bonehead and Guigsy departed. If you don't have the songs, don't rush it. The album following Be Here Now was going to be crucial.

I wonder if the album would have done better if it came out after 9/11 and everyone was all depressed.

Listening to SOTSOG slightly pished, ain't bad man, just needs a couple of songs cut out like Put Yer Knickers In Your Mouth and Play With Your Toys Even Though They Make Noise
Gas Panic should be track 2... "And if there's a god would he give another chancer ...An hour to sing for his soul"
I have a new appreciation for Sunday Morning Call & Where Did it All Go Wrong.
All Oasis albums needed a "PLAY LOUD" sticker like the writing on the Instant Karma '45 I have, makes it sound a LOT better*
*There was a "PLAY QUIET" for Yoko's poetry bollocks on the b-side

I agree I think its a very good album better than HC and DOYS I only actually realised when I listened to all the album in a row and really enjoyed it because I did a thread a few weeks ago saying how it could be made better but I was talking rubbish because I was so used to hearing it get slagged off and hadn't listened to it for ages but lets all make believe should have been in!
