A week ago I had one of those moments that I just sit back and take some time to listen to all the Oasis albums in order of date, so from DM to WTSMG till DBTT. Song by song.
What I noticed is that album by album Oasis lost more and more of their sheer "beatle-vibe"they had back in the years of DM and WTSMG. Oasis had this greatness and magic in their songs and words only the Beatles had at the time. Through the years Oasis lost that "Beatle thing" and became more and more a standard Rock 'n' Roll band (in the best way of the word).
After DM and Morning Glory they came up with BHN, which was a more poppy cliche album then those two before. Some great songs that reminds me of DM and WTSMG, but a lot is just drugged up. Still good, and still Oasis .. but the magic slidly drifted out of the songs. Ofcourse you had Masterplan .. but that was not really an album, but a collection of b-sides, still great, and more timeless cos these songs came from various periods. Then they took a break and came up with some fresh new bandmembers and a fresh new album with a special sound. It was SOTSOG. A mix between some glorious and great songs that gave some "beatle-magic" back again, but also some kinda less ambitious songs with to much of cliche.
HC was the most "not Beatle" album they've ever made. It sounded unambitious and most of their words in the songs were a bit empty. Some good tunes, but in the end a kind of failure. Just a bad one when you compare them to the early work.
DBTT has some fresh miltairy drumsongs which reminds me of these "Beat" music from the sixties. The Kinks and stuff. But in the end again ... The only song that really has that Beatles greatness is Let There Be Love. That song is pure quality and reminds me of those great John Lennon piano songs.
Ofcourse, Oasis is more then just a Beatles ripp off. In some way better then The Beatles, in other ways not as good as The Beatles. Oasis are not The Beatles, and the Beatles are not Oasis. But Oasis had these glorious days that they wrote the great songs that really had the same vibe as The Beatles had in their songs.
I think Oasis is still that brilliant as they were back then, but I sometimes wish they wrote and released those songs again like The Beatles did.
Therefore I hope Liam Gem and Andy will work on that. They are now the more ambitious and fresh songwriters of Oasis. Noel needs to take a bit more time now to pull off those songs again like he did in the early days. He still can I believe, but after writing so much songs I can imagine you sometimes have a black hole in your creativity and ambition. Should Liam and Noel together could become a superb couple like John and Paul ?
I hope the next album will bring back some of this sheer Beatle magic !
(Just my opinion, and I think there is some truth in it)
in the end: OASIS LIVES FOREVER

I don't think Oasis ever really SOUNDED like The Beatles, apart from material like Whatever for instance, but I think you're right that they somehow lost that unique spark along the way and have become more like a routine, although very good, rock band.
Sadly, I don't think what they had in the 1994-1996 period will ever come back. Noel had such a rich vein of creativity back then but I think that purple patch has well and truly gone.
He used to find it effortless to write instant classics that were a little bit different to everything else but it seems to have deserted him since 1996/7.

Yeah, he's never going to hit that peak of 94-96 again. Just isn't going to happen. I would also agree that they never sounded outright like the Beatles, except when they really went over the top into Lennon pastiche (Little James, BOADC, fuck, anything by Liam). In the early days they sounded more like the Pistols.
Personally I am pleased that their newer stuff has a range of different sounds to it. The BHN era was too coked up and the SOTSOG stuff too cold and distant. Still some great songs from those eras though. Personally I think they shoul dget Owen Morris back behind the desk; with Noel off the coke and no longer insisting on "More guitars! More guitars!" maybe they would have a shot at creating some of that magic DM, MG vibe again.

it's not sounding like the beatles, it's giving you the feeling beatle's music gives you. That's why they've been compared to the Beatles, not their sheer sound. And yes, they lost it after MG

If you want respect, give it. Until then, shut the fuck up.

Nothing on DM except for 'Up in the Sky' sounds like the Beatles. It was really only WTSMG that really caught that.
Anyhow, I wouldn't argue that the reason for the degraded quality of Oasis material throughout the years has very little to do with how much they sound like the Beatles

I think you'll find it's "schmuck", you schmuck.
And the only one who needs to fuck off is you.
Let me explain, in simple terms because it's obvious you're a very simple person.
This is a "forum" for the band "Oasis", which is where people come to do a lot of things including express things called "opinions".
Twat.
By the way, where are your Ashes dickhead?

Underneath A Summer Sky sounds like Underneath the Sky, Up in the sky, Underneath the bridge, fuck, everything that has SKY or UNDERNEATH in it's title...what's your problem man? I bet you haven't even listened to the song as it's really not similar to Underneath the sky or whatever Oasis song. So step down man...shit back and relax really.... Actually, why do I mind responding to that anyway....you're probably too fucking bored over there that you're out to yell at anybody so you can loose all your frustrations....fucker

it's not sounding like the beatles, it's giving you the feeling beatle's music gives you. That's it. You got it right. Oasis are compared to them coz of the feeling. Not cause of the music. And of course, there are a few relations to it. But everything's so different now that no one has never mentioned it again. Coz the roar and the feeling are gone. Oasis is one of the best bands in the world imo, but they're not beatleish anymore.

I honestly think a lot of has to do w/ DM breaking the fastest debut of the Beatles that stood for 30 years. That reason only I think b/c almost all of DM sounds nothing like The Beatles.
Then (especially Liam and Noel) looked like the Beatles with the haircuts.
Then just before MG comes out they release a stand alone single "Whatever" that has the strings that 'sound' a lot like the strings The Beatles would use in songs.
Finally a more acoustic laden album with Beatles references goes Global. MG.
1. Wonderwall (a George Harrison album) but the song is not any copy of. 2. Piano intro on DLBIA (take that out and it's STILL a great ORIGINAL song w/ a few lyrical references). 3. Strong British visual referneces.
Other than that they never really copied them at all.
The press did it.

BTW, one of the things Oasis has lost is that the songs they put on the record they don't play them live anymore. So it's like, just not the same band. It's like that in the begginning they would make songs for doing gigs.

why the fuck does everyone hate eachother here?... what is the point?
We all go on this forum because we have at least one common interest in the fact that we like Oasis. If people don't like what other people say why are they here?
Just chill the fuck out people.
My view.. back on subject.
Oasis never really sounded much like the Beatles.. people just use that reference because they are self confessed fans of the Beatles, there may be SOME slight similarities in songs but look at the early Beatles stuff, all the covers on their albums. The Beatles only started writing songs because they'd go on at the Cavern and play covers but the bands going on before them were playing the same songs.
John Lennon was influenced by 50's rock and roll.. Noel was influenced by 60's and 70's... bands like the kaiser Chiefs and Arctic Monkeys were influenced by 90's (ie. Oasis). At the end of the day there are 7 major chords.. the are 7 minor chords and a lot of variations of them. There is only so much people can do with them. The Beatles were clever with them.. take songs like Starberry Fields.. they uses some complex chords and has fantastic arrangements with 50-odd demos.. why do that when you can write Live Forever in one evening with the most fantastic yet simple arrangements.
A Bell Will Ring in my opinion will be the closest anybody will ever get to recreating Revolver and that was written by Gem, he wasn't even in the band when they were being compared to the Beatles so much. Take the Oasis version of I Am The Walrus.. sounds NOTHING like the Beatles original. How can Oasis still, in 2006 be compared to the Beatles.. the band have a totally different sound and attitude compared with 1996.. Oasis were compared with the beatles because nobody knew what to think of them.. they had similar amounts of fame and played a similar genre of music.

ISNT THIS FORUM FOR SHARING BOOTLEGS, NEWS, OPINIONS ON RECORDS AND THE NEWS
Those are your own words right? Well correct me if i'm wrong, but what are you doing now? The only thing you've done so far is just pissin' off others up here. That has nothing to do with "sharing bootlegs, news, opinions on records and the news .... "
May I ask you to please stop that, this way you're only making a vagina out of yourself. It's a shame their are still people that act like you. Grow up. I gave my opinion on the oasis records ... well there you go ... You're givin' opinions about people on the forum ... don't waste your time anyway then ... keep it to yourself ...
The rest of the people here ... keep on going givin the opinions and thanks and stuff ! Cheers
