2012.
I've never shared my story before because its so painfully uncool but here it is:
I only really knew a few Oasis songs, 'Being Idle', 'Wonderwall' and 'Lyla' spring to mind and although I secretly quite liked the songs, I actively hated the band. I thought Noel & Liam were a pair of Beatle-wannabe pricks and as such I never properly gave them a chance.
One day I accidentally stumbled across 'The Death Of You And Me' on YouTube and I absolutely loved it. After a few listens I decided to Google search "best Oasis song" and my search obviously led me to Live Forever.
Watching that video and hearing that song for the first time completely changed my life. It was just amazing, I'd never liked a song this much before. I spent the next few days in my room listening to basically every Oasis song I could find, learning to play a lot of them on guitar as well. I have to say it was one of the happiest times of my life.
Wow, my story is awful compared to everybody else's!

I grew up with Oasis from 1994 at 4 years old with my Dad being obsessed with Oasis(my Dad would only have been 24 odd when DM came out). I still remember sitting in my bumper seat in the backseat of the car with DM and WTSMG blasting.
I've been a hooked ever since, to the first time going to HMV and buying my own copy of an Oasis Album(as in not my Dads) think it was Heathen Chemistry in 2002, to my first Gig at 14 years old on the Don't Believe the Truth Tour to seeing them multiple times on the Dig Out Your Soul tour when I was 18(Unbelievable times including Slane 09).
So to be honest I could not tell you what life would be like without Oasis, and i'd be terrified to know!! Wish I had of been 18-20 in 1995-1997 rather than in 2009 but oh well, my life has happily always included Oasis or recently NGHFB or BE as the soundtrack.

Don't remember why but I started listening some Oasis songs in 2010-2011 (I was 16-17), didn't know anything about the gallaghers. I used to have these on my old iPod:
Wonderwall (Jools Holland 2000), Don't Look Back In Anger, Don't Go Away, Acquiesce (I remember the first time, blew away), Stand by Me. Then Live Forever (I used to love oonly the beginning, what a pric), Some Might Say and here we are

I think it was year 2003, I was a 14 y/o teenager into punk rock... until one day a cousin of mine, 3 ys older, came to town to spend some days with family... he was into downloading and recording pirate copies, mp3, etc, and was into oasis. He saw me listening to punk rock crap and introduced me the band. I remember he played me wonderwall first but i didn't pay that much attention. Nevertheless he copied the discography in my PC.
A couple of months or years later I was bored and started playing the songs with no references at all. Didn't know what the hits were, etc. I remember being mad at home trying to find one particular song but i got distracted because as i was playing them all i thought all were good. I was disoriented. It took me a while until i stopped confusing the song titles, everything was 10/10 to me.
Discovering the bsides was the "marry me" moment.

It was about 7 years ago and I was 13-14 and I was looming through my laptop because my family put all their music on it . I came across don't look back in anger and I just knew the words and it have me this great happy feeling , I always used to play wonder wall growing up and then I made the connection they sang that too, then I listened to stand by me , and gradually listened to their less pop rock kind of stuff and then heard live forever and just was Hooked , then started watching their concerts on YouTube then just obsessed , I then started learning guitar and wouldn't stop playing their songs , then saw them in Wembley 2009 was amazing !! Was only Just turning 15 !

Some great stories on here!
About the beginning of summer in 2009, when I was 15, was when I got into them. I used to find a lot of music through the vh1's 100 greatest 80s,90s, one-hit wonders etc... Anyway, I remember Wonderwall came on in the 90s countdown, and so did Bittersweet Symphony, and I liked both of those songs, so I bought them on iTunes. Later, when I saw the 100 greatest one-hit wonders, I saw Bittersweet Symphony was on there, but not Wonderwall. I thought Oasis were one-hit wonders (American!), so I looked up what their first album was, and checked it out at my local library. Needless to say, I was hooked, and fortunately for me my library had all their albums so I was able to catch up quickly. Ever since that summer they've been my favorite, ironically though that was when they broke up haha.

The first time I remember hearing an Oasis song was on Guitar Hero. The song was Some might Say and it blew me away. I searched on my parents' iTunes library for this and if there were anymore Oasis songs. It turns out there were. The songs that I remember were there were Some Might Say, Don't Look Back In Anger, Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall, The Hindu Times, Stop Crying Your Heart Out and Acquiesce. A rather odd mix but I didn't know it then. I remember loving Don't Look Back In Anger and Champagne Supernova but not really caring for Wonderwall. A few years later I bought Dig Out Your Soul because I really liked The Shock Of The Lightning. Soon after I downloaded Stop The Clocks from iTunes. Hearing Slide Away for the first time was an absolute joy. From here it went to downloading Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory in full and then getting every single song they ever wrote and as many bootlegs as I could find.
This was the most important band for me to get into because without them I wouldn't really have looked much at the Stone Roses, The Smiths or The Beatles. Without the Beatles? Well...

1994. I was 5 years old - had an older set of cousins in their teens... one of them gave me DM on cassette. That was it. Been listening to them ever since. Awww, I wonder what 5 year old UGHF was like. Oh, wait, I know due to his "brilliant" Christmas video present. Twat. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

I married into them circa '08. My husband and his friends were die-hards. We got tix to two back to back concerts so I figured I should learn some of their songs before we went. (Yes, I knew the standards - WW, DLBIA, CS, LF) but he got me started with Lyla and it just snowballed from there. He tells me today that he created a monster.

This is a very long and fairly boring story, but:
I'd read about Oasis here and there, and along with many other bands I'd heard of I decided to look them up online, but I didn't actually listen to any of their songs. That was ~5-6 years ago. I guess I'd quickly gone over the Wiki page, because I didn't remember anything except the name 'Gallagher' and the fact that they were no longer. Actually, to think about it, I might've read some news article about the break up and decided to look them up afterwards.
Anyway, fast forward into early 2014 (yes yes, I know). I'd recently downloaded Spotify because I figured it was a good alternative for illegal downloading. Over time I added some of the music I listened to to a playlist. I was mucking about with all the options and tried this 'radio' option. Basically, you select an artist or playlist and it gives you music related to them. I started it with the playlist I made of my favourite bands. I listened to ~20 seconds of each song and if I liked it, I added it to the playlist. Some of the bands that I added were: Verve, Pixies, R.E.M., Nirvana, The Who and others. Anyway, there were a few songs it suggested that I didn't like, but then, along came Supersonic by Oasis. I was about to skip it but I looked at the cover art and when the pick slide started I was like: "Whatever, I'll add it to the playlist so I can listen to it later." I didn't find any new songs I liked so I listened to the playlist. I listened to the entirety of Supersonic and thought it was bloody great.
I started the Radio option again, this time so it would play songs related to Oasis. The songs that played were(I still have the playlist): Lyla, Married with Children, The Hindu Times, Songbird and Love Spreads by The Stone Roses. I was really excited because I loved them all, so I went to the Oasis artist page on Spotify and played the top track: 'Wonderwall'. I didn't really like it and I was suprised it was the top track. I skipped it halfway and the next track was Champagne Supernova. It really clicked with me. I loved it. Absolutely brilliant. I wanted to listen to a full album, so I checked the reception sections for all of them on Wikipedia. It seemed that DM and MG were considered the best, so I did a bit of googling to find out which one I was going to listen to first, which lead me to this forum. I actually ended up getting both on my phone and listening to them when walking home. It was amazing. I had just found my favourite band in a matter of days. Soon after that I joined this forum, and bought the last four albums, along with Noel's debut.
Oasis got me into many of my current favourite bands, such as The Smiths and The Stone Roses, and made me buy The Beatles' albums instead of listening to the most popular songs on YouTube, and that got me heavily into them as well. To think it has only been a year... sorry for the long post and mistakes, It's early morning and I haven't slept

Worth the read, and tbh, I got into Oasis in a very similar fashion, so that's even cooler to hear a story like yours.

No joke you guys will laugh at my story of how I got into Oasis. It's kind of embarrassing. I had heard Wonderwall before, but didn't care for it as much and had no idea who was singing it when I heard it, so really ignored it. Was more like a tune in the background. Fast forward to early 2011, there was a show on SyFy (bare with me here ![:-S](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wavey.png) ) called Being Human (based on the UK version of the same name). The show ended last April, and premiered in January 2011. Anyway, the show centered around 3 characters, two guys which one was a werewolf and the other a vampire, and a woman named Sally (KEEP THAT IN MIND ) who was a ghost killed by her fiance Anyway not trying to give a full synopsis of the show, the season finale of the first season was a flashback sequence after she was killed in her house by being shoved down the stairs by her fiance. The two guys didn't know her at the time and happened to be walking by her house seeing her body being carried away on the stretcher, while her ghost was watching the whole thing not knowing what happened. The show liked beginning and ending episodes with songs, and they really picked some good music. So on the finale, they brilliantly played Don't Look Back In Anger. It was the first time I ever heard the song. The whole ending scene I pointed out had the chorus playing over it and it fit so well! "So, Sally can wait...she knows it's too late as we're walking on by! Her soul slides away..." I thought the song was brilliant and fit perfectly with the ending. I had no clue who the band was and looked up the song on youtube thinking the title was So Sally Can Wait, and DLBIA came up. I watched the music video, showing Noel playing and singing, and my immediate first reaction was, " Are they trying to be the Beatles?" After discovering DLBIA I re-listened to Wonderwall and absolutely fell in love with it. Then I moved on to Champagne Supernova, and was immediately swept off my feet from its badass production. I immediately put the 3 songs on my flip phone I had at the time, and listened to them daily. I even made Wonderwall my phone's alarm clock! When I looked up the band's info, found out about the split and everything and that Noel was solo and everyone else went to Beady Eye. I still at the time thought Noel had always been the frontman and that was why he was solo after the fight, until I realized Liam sung alot of the songs. I discovered Definitely Maybe and the rest of Morning Glory in 2012 and slowly submersed myself in Oasis' music history. TL;DR: DLBIA playing at the end of a TV show got me into Oasis!

Since I was 6 (1991) the only band I really listened to were the Beatles, my parents had bought me a tape and I was hooked. At the time because of my dads job we were living in LA, so between 92 and 94 I was watching a lot of MTV and there were a few videos I would always leave on (sound garden, nirvana, weezer) then I saw live forever. Love the song, though those guys had a Beatles look and really liked it. In early 95 we moved back to Chile and later that year my mom bought me WTSMG. From the on I was hooked. Moved to Prague in August 97, one of first things I did was buy BHN. Thing is at the time in Prague pirated CDs were a huge thing and I didn't know about what recordstores to buy from (I was like 12) so I bought a fake BHN and for a few months there I thought the BHN cd was pink! Hahah not brown! Only found out when I started school and saw the real cd. Anyways in November 97 I saw them live for the first time.
Been a massive fan pretty much all my life.

I lived in Seattle at the time. 1994-1995. I was about 15. I had heard Supersonic on the radio and didn't think much of it. This was at the height of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam... All of the grunge Seattle bands. I shoplifted (stole) a lot from stores when I was a teenager, and CD's were huge. One day my friend and I went to Target and I grabbed a ton of CD's and stuffed them under my coat. One was Definitely Maybe. We played it in my friends car and I remember him saying "Do you like this band?" and my reply was simply "They're just OK I guess". That was after just one or two songs and moving to the next CD. That was my first real exposure to Oasis. I got REALLY into Oasis when Wonderwall hit a year or so later. The music of WTSMG was more my style. Loved the album... Then I stumbled upon the single Don't Look Back In Anger at a store and discovered Cum On Feel The Noize B-side and truly became a mega-fan. After getting multiple singles and seeing how the B-sides were basically A-sides, I was hooked. Be Here Now was the pinnacle of Oasis for me. My favorite album with some interesting B-sides and wacky cover art on the singles. I would scour Circuit City (a now dead electronics store) looking for new "import" Oasis singles from the UK. It was like I found GOLD when I saw a new one. Mind you this was all before the Internet, so I had NO idea when new singles were out from the UK. I was not a music geek by any means. Been a mega Oasis fan ever since. I ended up being the fan that leaked The Hindu Times from the Norweigen radio station, leaked Dig Out Your Soul first months in advance, leaked Definitely Maybe masters, leaked many radio edits, and I'm still the creator and owner of www.oasiscollectors.com. MEGA fan for 20+ years.

A friend of mine showed me the song, Hey Now, and I asked, "what song is this???" He said, "its Hey Now, the band is Oasis" The very next day, I bought The Masterplan, which was the only CD of Oasis in WalMart at that time.... Was blown away immediately, the following month, that's when I got every single album of theirs.... and fell in love with Standing on the Shoulder of Giants especially, which i particularly nowadays call it "The White Album" of their career, since its got some weird stuff on it especially when it comes to Oasis; nevertheless it remains my favorite Oasis record ever, not only does it remind of the weirdness of The White Album, but also reminds me alot of the Beatles psychedelic era(i'm looking at you Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt Pepper), which I love.

I was 16 years old. I came up to Reno to visit my sister, who was in college at that time. We were driving back to her place at night, and Wonderwall came on. She asked me if I knew the song, and I said I didn't. Her response was something along the lines of "Great song and band, you'll like them." She was right.
I did hear one or two Oasis songs before then, Morning Glory being one of them...I just never dug deep for whatever reason I guess.

Me too. It was 1:30 AM Monday morning in 2005 and I was watching PBS. I fell asleep soon afterwards, but I eventully found it online later that week. My first album was The Masterplan. Later on I was listening to the UK top 40 one week and The Importance of Being Idle was announced as the #1. I'm lazy and I would like to leave this city, this old town don't smell too pretty. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/1258801/images/A9bL_RjIN9bOhnrQxKjN.gif)

One day I was saying to my dad how much I like the song and he said "Oasis were an amazing band"...I thought there was only Liam and Noel in the band and was shocked to find not only 3 other members but an edited-out bridge in HTWA! Then one day I was listening to "best of 2000 CD" for Yellow and straight after Go Let it Out came on and that was a REAL hook - that voice! that chorus! Then came the usual obsession with Wonderwall and the rest is history ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Well I saw some random guy on Facebook post about Oasis back in 2010 so I decided to give them a listen, and the first song that came up when I looked them up was Live Forever (Surprisingly not Wonderwall) and I was addicted to that song. Up until then, the only songs I had heard of by Oasis were Wonderwall and Some Might Say (Didn't know that was what it was called at the time) on New Zealand radio. Last year, I started listening to Oasis again more avidly but expanded into all of their albums, songs, and B-Sides, and ended up going through a phase where they were my favorite band.
