Before seeing Oasis' "Live Forever" on MTV America in the fall of 1994, I waa heading towards a grunge life of Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I cherish them both. The early to mid 90s were awesome times. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) Always preferred Alice In Chains and Soundgarden more. Grunge is the greatest American musical export ever, everything else the Brits do it better lol, except for rap if you count that.

Many years ago, on a typical cold and sad winter evening: I was in the car, in the passenger seat, and the radio was on. Then, while we were at a traffic light, Wonderwall came on... I still remember that epic moment with shivers...

Time Flies was when I properly started getting into them, obviously I'd heard all the big songs (Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger etc.) on the radio previously but never really listened to Oasis properly before. It was a fantastic experience discovering the whole back catalogue after listening to all the singles. I am properly in love with them now, unfortunately too late to see them live though ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) I live in hope one day it will happen though...

I knew Wonderwall for ages, but never knew which was the band. I really got into Oasis in 2000 after I saw Go Let It Out video promo on TV and liked their sound and style, after that came Behind The Music and I was hooked.

Some of the replies also making me feel ancient! I think it's great that people are still getting into Oasis after all those years.
My cousin is a bit older than me and he was right into his music. He saw Oasis play in La Belle Angele, Edinburgh in 1994 and got me onto them. Supersonic was released about a week later and I was hooked.

When the video for The Importance of Being Idle started to be broadcast on the music channels, July 2005. Loved the song from the first listen. I remember thinking that Rhys Ifans was Noel and when I watched the TOTP appearance a month later, I was disappointed to see this brown haired guy singing instead!
Some of the older videos were played on a channel called 'The Vault', Roll With It and Wonderwall being the most common and I recorded them to VHS. They also played the Maine Road (2nd night) version of Some Might Say, but very rarely, so when I managed to catch that by chance, I played it back every day for weeks. My obsession started.
By March 2006, I was in possession of the first two albums and I'll simply never, ever forget hearing Definitely Maybe for the first time. As Columbia was blasting through my headphones, I just thought ''this is it, this is the absolute bollocks''. And, well, there you go. 7 years on, still a huge fan.

In 2009, a friend sent me a .mp3 archive called "Slide Away". I didn't care much for music at the time, but I remember that I really liked what I've listened and I kept listening it for a long time, but never searched for more. Then time passed and, in 2011, the same friend sent me a video on youtube, called The Importance Of Being Idle. I was completely blown away, what a great song! But I didn't connect that Slide Away and TIOBI were from the same band because 1- I wasn't listening to Slide Away for 1 year, I think 2- Liam sings Slide Away and Noel TIOBI! But TIOBI made me wanna search for more and then I asked my mom if she knows that 'Oasis' band. She instantly tell me to listen to Champagne Supernova, and I absolutely loved it. Then I've downloaded WTSMG and just listened to this album in 2 months, great times. I've downloaded DM after and the rest is pure love.

I married into Oasis. My husband and his friends from college were obsessed. He wanted an all-Oasis wedding and I told him I'd give him Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. (I didn't even realize at the time that DLBIA was Oasis, so there you go...) After our wedding, he took me to see two back to back Oasis shows in 2008. I didn't want to go unless I knew more than two songs. He played Lyla for me, and I did lots of "studying", learning as much as I could about this band that he idolized. Years later, he's told me he created a monster. I'm about to finish my first ever novel, heavily inspired by Oasis.

Was obsessed with the show L O S T in mid 2000s. There's a fictional band there called Driveshaft that's based on Oasis, that's how I started getting into them, no joke. You all everybody You all everybody Was friends with a girl who liked them during WTSMG and made fun of her because I thought they were a pretty boy band. Borrowed the album from another girlfriend after I heard DLBIA and was hooked. Started buying up all the "import" singles which wasnt always easy to find in the US back in the days. Never looked back.

Starting really liking Wonderwall sometime in 2009, but not thinking much of it otherwise. Happened there was the 2008 rehersal gig was on TV that summer. Was looking for something to watch, so gave them a shot. Was disappointed they didn't do Wonderwall, but loved Supersonic. Especially the guitar. Gradually became a bigger fan over the next couple years. Consdering Liam's voice for that tour, glad it was that gig I saw and not one of the others.

First heard Oasis on my way to high school during my sophomore year (1994,Live Forever) and I thought Liam's voice was so weird. It sounded nothing like any of the grunge singers that the station (WBCN-Boston) was playing at the time. Didn't become a huge fan until Morning Glory took off in America. The first album I bought on the day of release was Be Here Now, which I loved then and love now. What really cemented my obsession for them was seeing a half-hour special on MTV (in America!) to promote BHN which included song clips, interview clips, etc and I thought Liam and Noel were the coolest, funniest, most honest rock stars I'd ever seen. Then I went to indie record shops and bought all the singles for the B-sides and it just grew from there. The rest is history. Changed my life.

On the way to the airport to go on holiday with my famil August 2005. The importance of being idle came on in the car, and i was captivated by it. The DJ said it was by Oasis from their latest album Dont Believe the Truth, so at the airport I went straight to HMV, bought the album and stuck it in my personal CD player and listened to it on repeat for the whole holiday. Got back and downloaded everything I could get my hands on on limewire (remember that?) I remember Bittersweet symphony by The Verve being incorrectly labelled as by Oasis and thinking it was them for about 2 years, but yeah, I kind of wish I could have my memory of all things Oasis wiped just so I could do it again, it's a great experience discovering the hidden gems/live performances/interviews etc for the first time

I believed I have heard Wonderwall somewhere when I was little. Obviously didn't know it was from Oasis. Stumbled on Wonderwall again when I was like 11, and I instantly remembered that I have heard it somewhere long time ago. Wasn't into Oasis at the times, I was listening to whatever the kids from my school was listening, Linkin Park and stuffs. I got in Oasis when I was like 14 or something, and they changed everything about me. Seriously.

Yeah there defiantly are a lot of 'newbies' on here and im one of them!
It was 2009, I was working in Sydney in an office not a bad job by any means but the long trains trips in to work were killing me, I needed good music to listen to as my ipod was lacking decent music so I "borrowed" my co workers ipod when he left to go home and copied all his music onto my computer then my plan was to go through it and keep all the music I liked. Simple enough, he had some might say, rock n roll star, do you know what I mean & live forever. I was absolutely blown away to be putting it lightly couldn't believe what I had heard, over the next month or so I bought every album, downloaded every song, buying merchandise, I've got a framed oasis noel and liam signed t-shirt hanging above my bed... There one of the best things that has ever happened, I can only imagine what it feels like to be a fan since 94'!
I don't think a day as gorn by since 2009 when I discovered them that I haven't listened to at least song

It is definitely a surprise to see so many who got into the band post 1997, and like some have mentioned it makes me feel like an old timer as well.
I got into Oasis after seeing Live Forever on MTv, at the time it was in a decent rotation and I believe it was on advertisements as well for up and coming bands (they would play clips on commercials with 3-5 new songs that were in rotation). It was the beginning of the post Nirvana/grunge era although I don't remember if Cobain had died yet, I think it was either right before it or right after.
What I do know is that I went to the store and bought Definitely Maybe and played it pretty heavily. They were not my favorite band at that point but I really liked them a lot (how could you not). I am proud to say I was a fan from the start in the US and have stuck by the band ever since.
The song that made them my favorite band was Wonderwall. I remember watching MTv and a clip of the song came on - the guitar, the voice, the words, the feeling - I knew right away I had to go buy WTSMG and immediately went out to get it. The rest is history. It was a very special moment in music history and in life.
As far as singles go, I was into collecting them through SOTSOG and then fell off because so many of the b-sides/rare tracks have been available on the internet. I still buy every album and see Oasis/Beady Eye/Noel when they tour and always look forward to new stuff.

For me it was early 1996. I remember sitting in the living room watching MTV with my brothers when Wonderwall came on. I absolutely hated that song at first and I said "turn this shit off". My brothers were like "are you crazy? This is great!". I cannot exactly remember how I started to like Oasis but I think it was after giving Wonderwall a couple more listens.
After I started getting more into them I was obbessed to say the least. I remember on a hot August night in 1996 sitting on my couch and taping the MTV unplugged performance and I replayed it everyday for 2 weeks. I also started to learn guitar after this and my mom bought this shitty old guitar for me for Christmas that next year.
August 1997 my borthers and I popped Be here now into the CD player and we were pumped. I just remember hearing that big sound and being so excited. Another good memory was watching Oasis on SNL in 1997. My uncle had taped it and he told me "you have to hear this other song they played". It was Acquiesce and I was blown away. Also I got a cassette tape from my brothers friend's sister and it had all of the Oasis B-sides on it before 1997. It also had Whatever and Wonderwall from the Patriot center in 1996. I remember Liam saying "yeah yeah yeah yeah, hello Washington". Then Noel says "Fairfax, wherever that is".
December 1997 was awesome because I remember watching the Oasis gig on Mtv from the G-mex. The next month in January 1998 was my first Oasis concert at the Patriot center. That is still my best concert expierence ever.
In 98 I went to the local record store and bought $30 Be here now import singles just for the B-sides. Flashbax, The Fame, Going no where, Angel Child. I was just obssessed with everything Oasis. The bastards even influenced me to start smoking cigs.
So many more memories after 1998 but this is already long enough.

I was working in a pub that had a dodgy pub quiz hosted by a local radio DJ .Got on great with one of the regulars who became a mate through shared music , REM , Stone Roses demos and live shows , Jesus and Mary chain and the rest .He comes second one night and as usual, prizes are promos that the Dj got for free and never listens to. A few days later my mate on a night out with on the tiles says give this a listen , and hands me the shakermaker promo cd single that he had won ,so the next morning all hungover as I search through my coat for a rescue smoke , I find the cd in my pocket and give it a spin , laughed aloud at the simple great first song but loved take me away and columbia I must have played 10 times in a row .Taped it and returned it , played it to death and from then on it was singles over albums .Im not being a dick for saying this but it was the first time I lived through singles first, then albums .after 8 songs and 2 cd singles s in ,Defo Maybe took a lot of listening to and didnt seem so fresh as I had played half of it to death it seemed , loved Noel's acoustic songs as well as the full on guitar band ,felt like we where being given a wee treasure as a nod to buying the single .Just like Id been told by my sister and friends who where early smiths and stone roses fans .This was my time and still now Im never disappointed , to love and live through the best summer of weather in our lives with WTSMG as a soundtrack as beautiful dawn soundtracks , priceless .To buy singles and albums on the day with shaking hands ,sadly missed , but to hit the link for this site to hear we are getting something new , shakes , worth shoveling through troll shite everyday .

I got into a big music binge and I started to look more into bands that became famous during the 90s and I came across Oasis. One year later, I have more music on my iPod of them than any other band.

1995 as a 7 year old. Wasn't particularly into music as you'd expect but all the cool kids seemed to like Oasis and there was so much hype around Morning Glory so I went along with it and played/loved WTSMG and later Be Here Now non-stop.
Lost interest after the Be Here Now hype died down (I was 10 years old to be fair) then re-discovered Definitely Maybe - which I had already owned along with Morning Glory and Be Here now but had never really bothered with - around the time or just before Heathen Chemistry. The rest as they say is history.

When I first heard Whatever in a bar in Japan, 1994. When I got back to the USA in 95, I bought Definitely Maybe and listened to all the tracks trying to find Whatever, only to realize that it wasn't on the album.

Copied from another thread. Some may have read it before:
2005/2006. Here's my story. I played FIFA 2005(or was it 2006?) on my gamecube(!). Really liked a few songs on there, so I wrote them down. Among them Lyla by Oasis. I downloaded them and a few other songs by the same artists, just in case they had more good songs. I think i downloaded TIOBI, stand by me, SCHYO, Lyla and wait for it,Breakfast at tiffanys(!). I loved them all. Downloaded more songs, loved each and everyone of them. So I started searching for them online to learn more about them. Found out they had wonderwall, which I had heard before. Found this forum and u told me what I needed to know (Thank u!). I got slated cus I though breakfast at tiffanys was oasis, but u were kind. Cannot understand how I could think it was oasis, but whatever. I found every song, downloaded them, bought all the albums, watched YouTube videos, I was hooked. I started playing guitar and learned all the songs. Because of Oasis I also got into kasabian, Stones, stone roses, jam, etc. Was lucky enough to see them live in Aberdeen in 2009 before they split. Would love to see them again sometime..2015 hopefully! Have also seen NGHFB live in Oslo last year. There hardly goes a day by without listening to oasis/NGHFB/bdi. The gallagher brothers are an important part of me now. There's not many Oasis fans in Norway, but I recommend them and talk about them to everyone. I feel pity for those who have not heard their songs. If you're at a party at my house, expect the stereo to blast Oasis songs all night long:)
