DGSS, no contest. The second album may have worked as an instrumental take...

BE the best album. DGSS got some of the best tunes (FLW, TRC, WW). ITBWAB, OATNE and BATB are also favourites of mine, It's strange they are bsides..!

They're about even...BE is more consistent and unified, but DGSS I feel gave us more standout tracks like ITBWAB, TWOMR, TMS and SOTS. The only 2 standout songs from BE to me are OATNE and FOTF. Both had its fair share of absolute stinkers too, DGSS probably had a few more in that regard.
As for their individual songwriting performances on these two albums: Liam = DGSS > BE Andy = DGSS > BE Gem = BE > DGSS

BE is still my favourite Gallagher release since The Masterplan. I love everything about it, particularly the overall quality of the collection of songs, Liams voice, the slightly melancholy tone and the absolutely brilliant production that suits the band perfectly. I still listen to it at least twice a week and enjoy it just as much as my first listen.
DGSS is by far my least favourite album since 1998 from them so this is really no contest, although The Roller is still probably my favourite Beady Eye song.
But instead of starting another thread, it's been around a year since BE was released and I was wondering if peoples opinions have changed much since then? The album was universally liked when it leaked on here with even a lot of the die hard HFB fans giving it some credit so what do we think now?

I never listen to BE. Hated it then, hate it now. I still listen to DGSS occasionally. The thing that it comes down to for me is that the songs on the first record are simply better. Nothing more, nothing less. I couldn't give a fuck about production etc.

I love it still. Production is definitely a part of it but not the sole reason.
I listened to NGHFB today and after giving them both time, I definitely prefer BE.
I found NGHFB really boring actually. More boring than I remember.
But back to BE definitely > than DGSS

it's funny that when BE first came out, i thought it was WAY better than DGSS.....however as time has gone on, i've found myself wanting to listen to DGSS more and more.
I really like the heavier and faster songs on BE, but really don't like the slower stuff......"Don't Brother Me" and "Start Anew" are pretty boring.....to me, they just don't capture the spirit of Liam at all.
I think "Flick Of The Finger" is definitely THE best Beady Eye tune. It's also the most experimental and the most adventurous. I really wish Beady Eye make a 3rd album and really go in this direction......

I like Start Anew but agree with Don't Brother Me.
Least favourite song on the album.

DGSS < HC <<<<<<< NGHFB < BE < Last 2 Oasis albums <<<<<<< First 4 Oasis albums
And BE and NGHFB would probably be flipped if they swapped producers.

Take BE's bonus tracks/b-sides: Back After the Break, The World's Not Set in Stone, Off at the Next Exit, Girls in Uniform, Evil Eye...
then take NGHFB's bonus tracks/b-sides: A Simple Game of Genius, Alone On The Rope, Let the Lord Shine a Light on Me, I'd Pick You Every Time...
put them on your ipod and you got a fantastic virtual Oasis album.

Thanks for the answers guys. Looks like BE (Particularly the bonus tracks) is still pretty well liked which is good I guess. DGSS was slagged off like mad about a year after release, although that might have had something to do with the quality of HFB.
It's a shame it hasn't sold well at all and 2013 was such a negative year for them. I think they'll consider their 'little experiment' a failure and we'll get a 'back to their rock n roll roots' album from them next which would be a shame because I love their sound on BE. Not just the production but so many of the songs had a completely different feelings, we had a few reflective atmospheric melancholy ballads, a couple of off kilter experimental tracks (By Gallagher standards) some darker songs, some rockers as usual etc whereas every song on DGSS was energetic and instant but had very little substance or meaning and that reverb is so headache inducing! and as it sold better than BE I'm worried they're going to take that approach again

BE is tremendous. Still listening to it on a regular basis. I like DGSS as well.
Record sales and the like doesn't mean a lot me to be honest, but from that side of things I think Beady Eye have been very poorly managed from day 1.

It's nonsense to compare these two albums really.
