am I the only one who love them?
I'm really excited about the new album they've announced, and can't wait to see them live.

Blur are a truly great band - probably with Oasis the last massive AND great band Britain has seen. I cannot CANNOT wait for their new album they proposed last week. More so than any reunited band at the moment? Why? Damon Albarn is still at the peak of his powers, and going on the basis of last year's truly fantastic Under The Westway, then I am confident they will deliver the goods. I think they can still rival the very best contemporary bands at the moment. Just think it will be really the first proper Blur album since 1999 - Think Tank is great but is noticeable for its lack of Coxon. More like a Damon solo effort or a Gorillaz album to me.
Thoughts on the new album? Do you think it will be a diverse experimental effort in the vein of the last few albums, or more like their Britpop efforts centred around life in middle England?
Whatever the case, I can't wait and I know I would be getting my money's worth from it rather than Oasis putrid half baked efforts from 2000 onwards (again, Noel should have just written the entire albums).

Damon announced it at one of their gigs in Japan a few weeks ago. He said after their little tour they are entering the studio to make what feels like a new album. Hopefully it happens. These rumors are swirl and then nothing.

Definitely one of the best bands of the last 25 years, and yes, anybody who doesn't like them just because they had a tabloid feud in the 90's with Oasis, is stupid.

Do you think it will be a diverse experimental effort in the vein of the last few albums, or more like their Britpop efforts centred around life in middle England? from what I know, this week they've been on the studio in hong kong recording demos, and they will keep working along with the tour, and released on 2014. a chinese web post: "We just bumped into Blur at Avon and met their roadie Steve. Steve revealed that the band had completed their recordings in Hong Kong, and produced a few new demo tracks. Blur's new demos still retain the original 'Blur' sound and has a very low-fi feel. Blur will leave Hong Kong tomorrow."

There always seems to be rumors about new music/album with this band. Would be cool if they did, doesn't bother me if they don't. If Think Tank was their last studio album I'm alright with that because it was awesome. I mean...
I respect the fact they were the 2nd biggest britpop band next to Oasis but I like their later stuff better that's got a different sound to it. Especially on 13. There's some underrated tracks on there ex. Trim Trabb, Caramel, that have a more experimental sound rather than britpop. They're a awesome band & I know people who say they're better than Oasis. Not gonna argue with as it could go either way and I'd have to think of specific songs, whatever. Just preference I guess.

I think their britpop era is well and truly over - which is okay, I think by the Great Escape they had pretty much exhausted all they had there. Blur 13 and Think Tank don't have too much in common, plus a massive break means there won't be much of a clue as to their new sound. I'm thinking 13 in the lack of cohesion between songs and themes - although I doubt they'd get as experimental as that again.

I love Blur, love how they can change their sound remaining themselves and keeping what distinguishes them, whatever it is Damon is not Noel (but who is?),but he's a great songwriter, artist and musician and Graham is a pretty good guitarist I really like their later stuff like a lot of people here, but my fave is Parklife (the "Britpop album" with Different Class and the two albums of our boys to me)

Pretty much everything on Modern Life Is Rubbish (which has my favorite album name and artwork for sure) is amazing. Their b-sides are great too (like The Masterplan-great):

young and lovely is great, I didn't heard it until they played it last year at the bbc concert.
one from my favorte blur album, "blur"
damon is a genius when it comes about writing sad, melancholy songs, the lyrics are direct, and at the same time really ironic, songs like no distance left to run, sing, caramel, etc. The atmosphere generated is amazing

Under The Westway is more of a Britpop effort so I was wondering whether they would lean towards that - it's got that whole London centric feel to it in the lyrics, so I was wondering whether they'd take a middle aged, yearning look at English life - you know, contrasting it with the sprightly young ones from their Britpop efforts.

I like them a lot. As Oasis, they're, at least, a very good singles band.
I think their 20 or 30 best songs are really really good, almost as good as Oasis top 30 (The Universal, Under the Westway, This is a Low, Tender, For Tomorrow, are VERY good), but behind these I see a lot of experimental stuff, unclear ideas, unclear melodies (specially in the verses, choruses and refrains are usually excellent), obscure material, prevalence of production and noise concepts, etc. Albarn's voice has enough strenght and personality to make anything sounds good.
Oasis are way more straightforward, clear, forceful. Blur are more deep, sometimes more sound/noise oriented, and experimental. Though they also have their sugary pop acts too.
It's good to have both.
