1) D'You Know What I Mean? (epic) 2) Stand by Me (classy) 3) I Hope, I Think, I Know (young powerful) 4) Don't Go Away (emotional) 5) Magic Pie (mature) 6) My Big Mouth (fuel) 7) Fade In-Out (rollercoaster) 8) It's Getting Better (Man!!) (generic but big and upbeat r'n'r; gotta love the solo) 9) All Around the World (ambitious oasis cliché) 10) Be Here Now (upbeat) 11) The Girl In the Dirty Shirt (love the brit vibe)
Very solid Album... It never gives a break, songs are long, lots of melodies, packed with layers, hyperactive lead guitar, and the emotional spectrum triggered here is mostly constrained to that of the cocaine, some kind of empty (or not) euphoria... that's why it is so controversial.

The top 3 are pretty fixed, they are my 3 favourite tunes of BHN.
The bottom 3 are also fixed, always been my least favourite tunes off BHN.
From 4-8 it's pretty even, very close between them.

I'm not a big fan of Be Here Now - funnily enough I always liked the live versions though! (Fade In-Out, Be Here Now, It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) seem too be much better when played live.

I like BHN, their heaviest album, not their rawest mind you, it is not one of my favorite, but I liked how Noel tried to be expansive with this album, filling it with choirs, orchestras, samples, guitar effects... The only problem for me is in it overlong lenght, which drags some songs a bit.

1. All Around The World (+ reprise): Has to be one of my all-time favorite Oasis songs. Couldn't last long enough for me, it's so epic and one of Noel's best melodies imho. Ear candy!) 2. Stand By Me: Liam's voice is amazing on this one (Especially his laast "come and go awaaaaaaaaaaaaaay"). Same epic vibe as on AATW, and I know many would disagree on this, but everything just sounds soooo good to me. Don't mind the overproduction AT ALL. 3. D'you know what I mean: Took me a while to fully apreciate this one. It's a bit different, but so cool. Sounds like a band that's on top of the world. 4. The Girl In The Dirty Shirt: I'm probably one of the only people here who really likes this song. The bridge is beautiful. This song sounds amazing when played on guitar/piano. Also love the harmony between Liam & Noel's voice on this one. 5. It's getting better (man!!!) Even though the last 36 "it's getting better man" are a bit unnecessary, it's Noel doing what he does best: write rock guitar tunes with a nice melody. The guitar solo and build-up to "we're getting better man" was one of my favorite Oasis moments for a long time. 6. I Hope I Think I know: As poppy as it gets, again: really good melody and Liam sounds amazing once again. Just straight-in-your-face guitar awesomeness. 7. Don't Go Away Again, one of Liam's best vocals and one of their most emotional songs. (Together with Slide Away and Stop Crying Your Heart Out.) A bit too corny for me, like the Noel version of TCT better, but still a really powerfull balad. 8. My Big Mouth: It's so, loud, I love it! A weaker (but still really good) version of "morning glory to me". Oasis' guitars never sounded louder (and better) 9. Magic Pie: Also took me a while to appreciate this one, this is also one of the songs I truly think is too long on BHN (I don't mind the rest). Love the middle solo and harmonies of Noel's voice. Again, I think one of the few people who actually likes this song! 10. Fade in-out: First time Oasis really tries something different. I like the album version better than the live version (again, I guess I'm one of the few ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ) Liam is, like the whole of BHN, in his prime and sounds amazing. The more "relaxed" beginning, with an epic explosion in the middle. This song also could be a little bit shorter I guess... 11. Be Here Now: Remake of Colombia imho. It's nothing special, just a good rock song with nothing too special about it. Love the piano jingle and whisteling, I actually find myself whisteling the intro melody from time to time. Love the playfullness of it all.. I guess you didn't ask for a full review, but I think it's one of the most underrated albums (by fans and critics) of all time, so just want to post my 2 cents here ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) )

The guitar solo and build-up to "we're getting better man" was one of my favorite Oasis moments for a long time. Indeed. One of the best moments, alongside with the outro solo of Champagne Supernova GMEX 97'. Magic Pie live in earls court solo is awesome too. D'you know what I mean solo in MTV superdry is awesome too. BHN era drug-fueled crazyness was necessary to complement the rockn roll curriculum of Oasis.

Even if it is unecessary Liam saying "its getting betterman" 36 times at the end, I like how in the meanwhile Noel keep playing different guitar solos, and Noel's backing vocals of course, it gives you a friendly feeling.

1. Don't Go Away 2. D'You Know What I Mean 3. The Girl In The Dirty Shirt 4. Stand By Me 5. My Big Mouth 6. I Hope, I Think, I Know 7. All Around the World
The above seven are amazing. The below four I absolutely hate
8. Be Here Now 9. Fade-In-Out 10. It's Getting Better Man 11. Magic Pie (already a poor song. I always rank it lower because everytime I listen to it, I get tricked into thinking it's a good song because of the first minute, and then the shit comes).

1. Don't Go Away - Yes, it's trying to replicate what Wonderwall did in terms of a lighters-in-the-air power ballad, but it's still an amazing song and one of Liam's best ever vocals.
2. D'You Know What I Mean? - Sprawling, arrogant and with a guitar solo that seems to go on for several months. Oasis in the summer of 1997 in a nutshell ('Help, our kid, we're in a nutshell' etc etc).
3. Stand by Me - The acoustic version they did on Right Here, Right Now (the documentary they showed on BBC1 the night before the album release) was far superior. But it's still a decent tune, even if the "sing me something new" line is quite ironic all things considered. Single B-side Going Nowhere should have been on the album.
4. Be Here Now - Lyrics are beyond appalling, although that's a common theme running through the album. Decent rocker though.
5. I Hope, I Think, I Know - Catchy but throwaway. Sounds more like a B-side.
6. My Big Mouth - Lyrics are shit (again) but it's alright if you're in the right mood.
7. The Girl In the Dirty Shirt - Quite sweet but far too long. Underwhelming chorus.
8. All Around the World - Ridiculous, but then that's part of its charm I guess.
9. Fade In-Out - Bon Jovi did it better. First time I heard it I realised the plot had well and truly been lost.
10. Magic Pie - Dear God, make it stop.
11. It's Getting Better (Man!!) - Is this a joke?

1) D'you know what I mean: From the first second of the intro this song is amazing, listening to those heli's then the build up to the drums where liam's standing in front of the mic.. Incredible. 2) It's getting better man 3) All around the world: A bit long, could have done with a minute or 2 less but the build up to NG's part still gives me goosebumps 4) The Girl in the dirty shirt 5) Stand by me: Classic 6) Be here now 7) AATW reprise 8) Don't go away 9) Fade in out: relaxed, sounds country, love it.

This is my favourite album. I love everything from this period, including the B sides which were some of the best Noel ever wrote, IMO.
1) All Around the World/Reprise - ultimate feel-good Oasis-meets-Beatles track 2) I hope, I think, I know - upbeat, fast, in the same vein as I got the Fever, The Fame and Stay Young. 3) My Big Mouth - the fastest, rockiest, loudest track Oasis ever did 4) Stand By Me - classic single 5)It's Getting Better Man - rocky, upbeat. 6) Don't Go Away - the slowest, calmest track on the album. Great ballad. 7) D'You know what I mean? - anthemic, epic opener. 8) Magic Pie - plodding for most part, but second half of the track improves. 9) the girl in the dirty shirt - cheery tune, but not one of my favourites 10) fade/in out - the weakest track on the album

A game of two halves for me but I loved it at the time.
1. My Big Mouth. This is Oasis in a nutshell for me. Balls out guitar onslaught. Vicious. 2. D'You Know What I Mean? The helicopters, the morse code, the backwards vocal and guitars, the drums. Epic. 3. Fade In/Out. Dirty blues. Raw start, big scream, bigger finish. Liam's never sounded better in my opinion. 4. I Hope I think I Know. Shortest track on the album I think. That chorus is something special. 5. Don't Go Away. Nice little tune that doesn't outstay it's welcome. Quite soppy though. 6. Getting Better Man. It could be much shorter but playing guitar along to it is fun. 7. Be Here Now. Simple stuff. Crap lyrics. Crapper "yeah yeah yeah"s than Columbia. Should have been a b-side but probably kept because of it's title. 8. Magic Pie. Read my description of Getting Better Man. Intro makes up for a dull bridge/chorus and Noel's voice was too weak for such big production. 9. Girl in the Dirty Shirt. Nice enough but Liam's vocals sound strained and the bridge sounds too much like Yesterday for my liking. I like the piano bit at the end though. 10. Stand By Me. Far too long, far too many words, far too many guitar parts. Grates after 4 minutes. 11. All Around the World. I fell asleep to this once and woke up with it still playing. Long and horrible.
