Liam's voice over the last ten years has been like me telling you to put both your hands on the table and then asking you which one of your fingers will hurt the least when I smash it with a fucking hammer.
It's completely atrocious most nights, with a smattering of "cringers" and "ok's" mixed in for those who like to keep score.
But yeah, we KNOW it sounds awesome when you're there with your half-pickled doughnut bobbin about.
Go figure.

People, the equation is really simple. When Liam's voice is properly rested, it sounds better. Yes, it has been overly damaged during the years but will always sound better in the beggining of the tour (or even before like those BDI's radio session or that Wonderwall version with Gem in 2005). As the gigs go by, his voice fades away and always sounds too nasal by the end of the tour.
Of course there are exceptions regarding good and bad performances, but the mixing is also relevant to it...

He doesn't half talk about Liam's voice a lot for someone who doesn't like it at all.

if you dont like Liam's voice go and buy a One Direction album or something by Celine Dion. Liam is not 25 anymore and only a fool would expect to sound these days like he used to in the 90s. Liam's a rock n roll singer and for years he had that extreme rnr life.i suppose most of you used to love him for that, for his independence, for his DIY attitude, for giving everything he had in thousand oasis gigs. that's the cost of living the rnr life but most important that's the cost of growing up, getting older. i love the way he sounds these days, i love the fact that he s changing and yeah he s in a new era now in every term. accept it or f**k o**, you celine dion boy! Liam Gallagher: 'I'm sick of fucking idiots saying I can't singlink

Do you have any friends TheDon? Have you ever been loved by anyone? Have you ever successfully given someone an orgasm?
Is that why you're so desperately unhappy and unsatisfied?

Wonderwall was played at the Olympics in it's original key which is quite high but I think it would suit Liam better if it was lowered half a key or capo on 1st fret in guitar terms. Also think rock n roll star would sound better in a lower key as well when played live these days as singing in B seems a bit tough for Liam.

Of course, all of this is based on one live song 9 months ago and two poor quality album tracks...

honestly, Liam's being done a disservice by the band and production team. He never sounded soo beat and nasal on any Oasis album. As soon as DGSS was out he was kermiting all over the shop and for the first time on a record.
There's NOTHING we can do about it. I suspect he had vocal nodules around 2005 when he sounded like a fucking rubber factory but went for an operation to sort that out come DOYS/DGSS however instead of returning that epic vocal we all know and love it brought out a similar sounding voice but nowhere near as heart pounding.
We're all hurting from the fact that what I truly consider the best voice 'in this life and the next' is no longer around and in its place is like its dirty cousin. But hey, atleast they're related.

Generally speaking I have liked Liam's vocal work with Beady Eye, and I especially like how his voice sounds on "Second Bite of the Apple" because I prefer to hear him sing with fewer effects!
I do think he's in "a new era" (to quote the facetious OP) and is able to sing more reliably now. He doesn't have to hide behind sneers and snarls. Yeah, his voice doesn't always hold out for an entire tour (or set), as others have noted, but that's rock & roll, baby.
Basically I find Liam's voice powerful because it has a lot of character and charisma -- and to me that is more important for a rock & roll singer than a pretty tone. Maybe Noel can hit the high notes with greater reliability, but Liam is more interesting to listen to.

Only today I was listening to It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) on headphones, and had never noticed how he sings "It's getting better maaaaannnnnnnyyyyyeeeeeeeeaaahhhh" with the last notes buried into the mix a bit. Kinda like how he sang "it's only then you reaaaliiiiissseeeaaahhhh" on My Big Mouth, or "now that you're miiiiineeeaaah" on Slide Away at Knebworth. What a ridiculous set of vocal chords he had. It would be physically impossible for them to remain that way with the way he sang in the 90s.

I totally disagree over this. 18 months ago in Blackpool for me Liam sounded the best he had in years, the footage on YouTube backs me up on this. Last year in Warrington and at Heaton park again Liam sounded really good. His voice has changed over the years but when you've played as many shows as he has over the past 20 years it's going to. I am happy with the way he sounds on both flick if the finger and second bite of the apple. Really looking forward to the live shows in June, I've the faith he will sound just fine.

His voice was absolutely as smooth as peanut butter at the Olympics. I actually have no problem with the Don't Believe The Truth era of Liam's vocals but on the live tour for my favorite Oasis record Dig Out Your Soul, there was always something frustrating the sound quality. Did anybody notice that his voice was overshadowed by the instrumentals of the band. I am always yelling at my computer when watching gigs from this era "Turn his mic up god dammit!" It;s just annoying. I did enjoy his cackling and short winded snarling at the 2008 Wembley stadium concert and of course the Electric Proms (most of the songs performed anyway.....) and of course I am still a huge fan of the Standing on the Edge of the noise gig as well. It's all subjective isn't it? One fan may hate 2002 - onward Liam-vocals and others may enjoy it such as myself. I actually enjoy every era to see his progression. He's still Liam Gallagher, Still Mad fer it, and still one of my heroes. Anyways just enjoy the music the best you can guys.

The way I look at it is, his voice wouldn't have changed this much if he didn't give us some of the most amazing vocals from 1994-2000, so appreciate what you got kiddies

Y'know what really fuckin' matters to me? What really drives it home? The fact that Liam, despite having such a drastic shift in vocal clarity the past decade or so, still goes out on stage in front of the world and sings it, no matter what may come out.
Liam has to have a pretty big pair to go, in place of Noel, and sing in front of THE ENTIRE FUCKIN' PLANET. Not in front of a festival crowd, or in front of an arena. But in front of the entire WORLD with his Olympic performance. I'd give my left nut to see any of you fuckers criticizing him so harshly go up on the same stage as he did that night and do half, nay, a quarter as well as he did!
He's given us all he's got for so many years despite not having to. Sure, he's done a shit ton of drugs and probably shouldn't smoke. But he's a grown man, he's living with the decisions he's made and will have to live with the ones he makes in the future.
But, I hope in that future he's still singing. Just to PISS you fuckers off!
