I am a huge Oasis fan and will buy anything the "post Oasis" parts put out there. I hope that includes Parlour Flames! #offtopic

Lyrics are lacking for me honestly. Cringe worthy in place. Like the chorus',end and middle section though. Overall though, better than some songs they've done but still not as impressed as I want to be.

I gave "Second Bite of The Apple" the good old fashioned driving test. It sounds pretty good loud. Sonically it's a fun tune.

I don't want to sound like a twat but... (if someone else has made this comparison, I apologize)
I posted the lyrics to this to a friend of mine not into BE, and her response was that it read like a metaphor to Adam and Eve.
I thought...fucking hell thats kind of brilliant...
"apples from tree" "tickle my feet with the enemy" could reference the snake tempting Eve "looking for sin" Second Bite of the Apple = Adam, who took that bite.
the whole song is about temptation.
It actually makes some sense. Blew my mind.

SBOTA is also a good song. Yes not in their league but it doesn't make it irrelevant. It's either a reason to hate on a song or it isn't. IMO it isn't. Nope, just because something works in one song does not mean it works in a song of inferior quality. Except now you're quite removed from what I originally said. My point was simply that if you think repeating lyrics over and over is a shit concept (which it seems that many do) then that would apply to those songs as well. If you think it just doesn't work for this song, that's fine but people are using things as a stick to beat Beady Eye with that clearly applied to some of the best Oasis songs (the nonsense lyrics and various efforts such as Supersonic for example) I'd just rather people came out and said they thought it was shit than try to intellectually validate their opinions with all sorts of points that go against a whole stack of the music created by the band this forum celebrates.

Interesting theory. I was just thinking how Liam pronounces enemy very similarly to on My Big Mouth so I think that's definitely the lyric. Who wrote this one again?

The good: I like the lyrics for the most part, very Gem I like the way Liam tries to sing differently I like the fun, cheeky feel of the song. Would have been alright on DOYS with Noel's input.
The bad: As I said, lyrics are good but WAY too much repetition Vocals are way too up-front and nasally. Hate it say it but its almost unbearable.
The Ugly: I listened to it 4 times, couldn't be bothered to listen to it again today. That's never happened before.
Overall, not a fan really. I love FOTF, I love DGSS, but this one borders on cringeworthy. Hate ot isay it and I hope I change my mind, but that's where it is now.

I think the song is OK at best, could be a grower though. 'Flick of the finger' has/had so much potential, decent lyrics, great production - but it doesn't do anything or go anywhere... I kind of like it, but I sit sit there waiting for something to happen & then it ends.
To be honest I'll still buy all the singles & the album, but I'm NOT expecting anything amazing. DGSS has some good tunes on there, but as a whole I think they're lacking a cutting edge in terms of songwriting. They're all individually very good musicians, but they're missing the main ingredient when I comes to songwriting.
Of course this is just my opinion, but anything that they do will never measure up to anything Noel does. NGHFB is far superior to anything BE have done to date. Don't get me wrong, I can listen to Beady Eye & I'll support the boys but they're way behind 'The Chief'.

Think it is a good effort from Beady eye. I really don't know what people were expecting?
Liam gem and andy are not anything on par with Noel for songwriting.
but these two tunes Flick of the finger and second bite of the apple. Are very good tunes they are different from that same old 60's guitar music.

God bless.

second day and i cant stop listening to that tune! album is gonna sound MEGA! i can see a whole crowd of people moving up n down in a festival singing "The world is up if you’re tough enough' and then that ecstatic moment of 'Come on! Show what you love now".
that tune is something different and a very interesting listening.a tune that we could hardly hear in an Oasis album.its a smooth RnR tune with a huge Soul feeling. Spiritualized or even Beta Band would BE really jealous of ...

thank God (Noel) these guys have Liam singing their songs.
good song though. like some random band would release a good song. like Heavy Stereo would reunite and we'd be like 'yeah it's good'. but you've got Liam singing so it changes everything. and Sitek? fuck him. let's see who mastered the album. then you've got something to talk about.
who ever cared about Oasis lyrics anyway. but is anyone seeing emselves singing that 'if you're tough enough' line during the gigs? think it'd feel pretty weird and juvenile.
we've got the first song and the first single. I'm not that convinced if they are 'supposed' to be the best songs, but who knows..

I was distinctly unimpressed with DGSS on the whole.
FOFT I liked, maybe a 7/10.
SBOTA is much more like it. 8/10. Big fan of the song.
Don't get why people aren't enjoying it.

The lyrics aren't that bad after all. Somebody had written about a religious plot all over the album just after the song titles, it was all references to Eve and Adam as well, some kind of fall and redemption theme. If it is so, it´d be worth it to analyze the lyrics and music to know what the band is trying to say. After reading the NME songs review, I think the fall and redemption theme idea or theory is right. I think Oasis never tried something like this before, Noel was a very shortsighted songwriter (lyrically and artistically speaking) so I´m very intrigued on this BDI effort.
