Apples to oranges. They're actually good songs. Classics in fact. SBOTA is not in the same league as those songs so a comparison is moot. SBOTA is also a good song. Yes not in their league but it doesn't make it irrelevant. It's either a reason to hate on a song or it isn't. IMO it isn't. Nope, just because something works in one song does not mean it works in a song of inferior quality.

Im not having it....starting to annoy me already. No substance, just a few weak cheeky lines like "tickle my feet with the NME". As someone posted earlier "good production can't cover up a poor song"....Sad, as I was looking forward to a right good tune.

Sounds mega. I think most of you are severly misguided and would have labeled Supersonic and Shakermaker as not being "single material" upon their first release. I'm not even sure why you post on this board. You continually find fault in every release, yet offer no blueprint as to what might actually satisfy your finicky pallate. Above and beyond, who really cares about singles anyway? Certainly not the discerning music fan. The song starts out with a great jungle vibe. Sultry bass. Tasty descending keys. Shakers. Scratch quitar. Enter yet another stellar vocal from Liam G. Single tracked. Sung with authority. Great inflection. Unique melody. Flawless. Cue the Savoy Truffle sax section and we're off. The first pre-chorus doesn't over stay it's welcome and we're right back into jungle land where the vocal adds a nice bit of aggression in verse two. Back to dirty sax and the pre-chorus before a downward spiral guitar and staccato trumpets lead into big brass and strings a huge chorus of postivity that echoes the best strains of early Oasis. Back to the scratch guitar jungle for the third verse before a breakdown highlighting the outstanding production and dirty brass. One final round of pre-chorus before the climatic build that is just the right length, doesn't overstay it's welcome, and leaves the listener wanting more. At 3 and a half minutes, Second Bite of the Apple is an exercise is brilliant songwriting delivered with passion and the best production that has ever surrounded a Gallagher brother. If this is good songwriting then I'm John Lennon.

The lyrics are appallingly bad. Fortunately Sitek's production and Liam's vocals make it into a half decent song.

Listened to it loads now & it just gets better, initially had it on my work PC via YouTube on the shittiest speakers ever & I was a bit "what fuck?" but that listen was unfair so waited till I got home & got it on my best headphones & it turned out to be great....unusual but great production which needs to be listened to through headphones to appreciate all the little licks etc....great production, vocals are great raw, real & attitude, only Liam can deliver everyday words with such venom - yes lyrics are throwaway but what did you expect?....that's what oasis/Noel/Liam do!. & it's catchy as hell...can't really see how it's gonna fit into mainstream radio but I could care less, since when has that been a beacon of quality. To be honest Beady eye/Liam can't win, there is no middle ground with them either ridiculously biased hate or grossly overblown love...I just wish most would use common sense, it's a great track that really couldn't be further removed from the bubble gum commercial shite we are drip fed everyday & for that they should be applauded. Great 2 tracks so far & can't wait for the album.

F*ck I'm disappointed! I really liked 'Flick of the Finger' and I still do. In fact I like it even more now because this song makes it even better. 'Second Bite' just does f*ck all for me.
Believe me, I was rooting for Beady Eye as much as anyone on here and wanted to like it but I'm not going to lie, I just don't like it and it's got nothing to do with the lyrics because lyrics never bothered me it's just falls way too short in melody. If it was a b-side or even an album track I wouldn't of minded as much but A SINGLE? THE FIRST SINGLE?
'Four Letter Word' and even 'The Roller' excited me way more than this. 'Four Letter Word' actually pisses all over it to be fair. Not a good sign for the album - and anyone who says that there may be better songs on the album are just clutching at straws. Why the f#ck would they release this if it wasn't the best song on the album? Or at least in the top 3. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it.

Fair enough you don't like it but it would seem it was because they didn't revert to type & release another 90's re-hash, instead they have gone for a right weird fucker of a tune & that is why I love it (no to mention its funky as hell). I very much doubt this is the "best" song off the album more of an attention grabber (good or bad), most artists/bands do this to try and give an album longevity....was roll with it the best off morning glory?, Shock of the lightning/Doys and so on....the 2nd & 3rd singles are normally most important. I feel an awful lot of people are judging it off past output....they get ripped for reverting to type on DGSS & when they go left of centre the die hard 90's mob can't/won't accept it. I applaud them for being different, Liam (& Noel) is a one off & I love the fact he does things he wants to......Damon Albarn does this he gets heralded a genius maverick taking risks.

In I think the XFM interview, Liam was asked how many more singles there would be. He replied with 9. And went onto say that every song except for 1 could be a single. It seems to me they are just randomly choosing tunes instead of putting effort to pick the best one. They should know which songs are the strongest and which ones aren't.

Not for one second was I judging it against previous output. It just lacks melody for me. Simple. I hope you're right in saying that it's not the best song or at least one of the best on the album but I doubt it. ''Attention grabber''??... Surely the best type of ''attention grabber'' would be one of the best songs you've got.

i think some of the arguments and misunderstandings would be settled if we all started calling 'singles', 'really good fucking songs'.......
God bless.

I think both you and I know what Liam says in the build up to an album is to be taken with the slightest pinch of salt. It seems to me they are just randomly choosing tunes instead of putting effort to pick the best one. I highly doubt that.

Who thought we'd get a better chorus then verses out of BE? Song is still pretty weak though. Polished turds, polished turds.

Im listening to this for the first time as I post this - Im always one to embrace a band's decision to experiment and I love a good melancholy, so this track doesnt disappoint me. I love DGSS and think its great, but this is just badass. Those horns and the production The production really is great and the track has a certain thickness to it. I definitely didnt expect something like this from Beady Eye - it sounds like Primal Scream or something but I think its great. Liam sounds great, IMO Overall, I think this is a really good track. Defnitely built around the atmosphere of the actual track than whatever song is underneath it all, ala FOTF Reminds of Be Here Now

My two cents : production genius, Sitek ? Not quite, but he's a good at making a shit song listenable. The verses are pretty shocking bad. The production reminds me of HC in terms of production, like the single to Heart of a Star. And god, those drums...
Song structure is pretty boring, not even a solo or a real break, oh well, it's the single...

Im feeling that the band is tryin to hard to make something....different?....they should stop the nonesense, write a tune, get a decent producer and keep liams voice away from any effect...eureka

You may not like the song but Sitek has made a profession of being a producer while Noel and the others proved themselves to be very average. Its not even difficult to hear. People should also stop using the word 'melody' like its an intellectual insight into music making.

The album is clearly gonna polarise fans... But I think it may bring in some new ones. And that's great! Another album repeating HC, DBTT, and DGSS might just be one album too far. That is, 2 or 3 good singles, a couple of decent rockers mixed up with some clunkers, some mid-paced ballads that are interchangeable... (this goes for High Flying Birds as well by the way)... I'm personally over the moon that they have gone in a different direction. I had no real excitement for this album in March, expecting another collection of 10-12 songs that sounded similar to everything else post 2000, but after Flick of the Finger and this, and the track reviews I've read, I'm intrigued and excited to hear this album as a piece rather than a largely forgettable collection of songs. Dig Out Your Soul attempted something along these lines, it wasn't mind-blowing but at least it tried. Half of that album is in the top 10 post-2000 songs

I think both of these songs will sound good on the album. SBOTA really isn’t single material but that doesn’t change albums being good as a whole. Rock singles are dead these days anyway. I think we need to stop hoping Beady Eye will be a commercial success, Liam’s had his day, all the 60's stars were washed up by the 80s and that were Liam is now(in comparison to his Oasis success). All we can hope for is critical acclaim, that’s the main thing that will create the albums lasting reputation.

I am a huge Oasis fan and will buy anything the "post Oasis" parts put out there. I admit FOTF took a while but now I love it, sure the lyrics aren't the best, but I have grown to really love the song. At this point, the first night of listening to SBOTA, I like it, but I'm not in love yet. The intro is awesome though. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album, and also can't wait to see Beady Eye in NYC!
