Someone on the Lillywhite vs BDI thread had mentioned that Noel should hire Steve Lillywhite. Thought this deserved its own discussion. Noel should totally hire Steve Lillywhite to produce his next album.
FUCK YEAH!
That's actually a really good idea. Lillywhite's stripped back bare bones production style would exceptionally suit Noel's soothing voice and intimate lyrics. It would be a far better record than NGHFB with Lillywhite at the helm if Noel can just sustain outputting the same quality of songs. EOTR, IIHAG, BA, TDOTL, etc all scream for a Lillywhite-esque simplistic production rather than the plodding pseudo-choir melodrama we typically get from Sardy.

he could produce it himself NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO remember the clauster fuck that was HC? I do. The songs were(for some of the album) there but there was no soul in it. And it sounded flat as fuck.

If he wants his songs produced in the straightforward conventional manner, he could no better than Lillywhite. I doubt Lillywhite would, as Ash and Debris says, allow brilliant tunes to be turned into lumbering plodding numbers - ala, If I Had A Gun. Dave Sardy is pretty dire - he doesn't have any classic albums to his name.
This is how the Morrissey track Why Dont You Find Out For Yourself originally sounded like.
Listen to the Steve Lillywhite treatment and he stripped it right back. Benefited the song HUGELY. Lillywhite always likes the singer as the focal point and here he got Moz right at the heart with a great vocal performance that wasn't drowned out by guitars. Perhaps Morrissey should hire him again. Vauxhall and I (which this song appeared on) sounds perfect in my opinion, and is my favourite Morrissey solo album.
Also, if you listen to U2's first three albums and they all sound spectacular too.

Fact: George Martin is retired and is 80 years old. He has had really bad loss of hearing which forced him to stop working.

None of those weird commie socialist type of producers. Just stick with Sardy and for Christ sake stop leaving some of your best tunes as B-sides Noelly Noelly Noelly

Fact: George Martin is retired and is 80 years old. He has had really bad loss of hearing which forced him to stop working. I'm pretty sure most of the mixing, editing and production on Love was done by his son Giles but the put they put the big man's name in front to give it more weight. So if we're throwing suggestions in I really think Noel should hire Giles Martin for his next album.

I think a combination of Liam Gallagher, Spaneli and Meg Matthews would be the perfect production team to make Noel's next record a global phenomenon.

I honestly think he doesn't need much help, just some mixing.

I honestly think he doesn't need much help, just some mixing. This. He's not a bad producer, just poor at mixing. Mixing broke HC, more so than producing. The production is anemic, the mixing is dead on arrival.

Anyone with a good track record would be great - interesting that Oasis have never had any producer with a track record of really good production. Mike Stent's work I think was the best but he rarely produces albums. Dave Sardy's record is so mind numbingly average and dull with acts like Jet and Dirty Pretty Things and his 'palette' so to speak is so narrow its the last thing Oasis and Noel needs.
Would love to see Noel work with Damon Albarn but I don't know how it would work out - he hasn't self produced any of his albums as far as I know, though I realise the sound of Gorillaz is pretty much all down to him I think.
Sadly, I think Noel is too much of a control freak to allow anyone to take the bull by the horns. I honestly think that's a major flaw of him - bands like Radiohead, U2 and The Beatles (Godrich, Eno and Martin) would often let the producer dictate at times what the song needed, I can't see Noel ever doing that. It's definitely something that I think holds him back.

I really wanted to see how those sessions with the AA went. That had me really excited, more so than HFB announcement. I want to see Noel be a little different once in his life. This was a great chance. Maybe we will still hear it one day. Right now it's his Apocalypse Now.
