I was happy when I thought it was just going to be an album track, but the first single is usually one of the best songs on the album. It's still being touted as a teaser and not a single. Like Bring the Light was. That's what Alisson said. So I guess you could call it a radio single/promotional, but not an "official" lead single.

Flick of the finger has a very uncommon structure for a song, but it is a great song. I see it like a hymn, there is one single melody/tune throughout the song and it matches perfect. You should give it a try as a different music, stop listening to the basic verse-chorus-verse-chorus song. And when people say: it goes nowhere, they better think it´s their problem, not the music. Sorry, but it goes nowhere and to be honest that has nothing to do with the structure. The structure is fine. It's far too simplistic to say, if you think it goes nowhere then you're not used to listening to different structures. You can have a loop structure and have variation through instrumentation. In the end you're working a key and anything you play in that key will sound good in terms of instrumentation. So to be honest, there's no reason to loop the same lyrics and the same horn sound, and same drums over and over again. That has nothing to do with structure. That's just a complete lack of variation that goes nowhere. I can buy alwaysnow saying it's more trying to fit a mood than anything else (which is why I think it's a pretty decent to good song), but saying that the problem is that people aren't used to listening to different structures just seems very music elitist. The drums are flat, the vocal is good...a bit nasally, and it's the same loop without any instrumental variation. Can anybody tell me what's going on here? "Objectivity" run amok? or just subjectivity ass-fucking itself? ...Derrida would shudder in his grave, to see what we wrought.

They pick an absolutely horrendously shite song BTL to promote the debut album. So what do they do second time round? Pick an even more hideously shite song FOTF to promote the follow up album, and people expect this half arsed band to succeed for some strange reason when they embarrassingly fell flat on their faces at the beginning, and to this day.
Wonders will never cease to amaze.

I sort of agree with the title of this thread. I was looking forward to a great song with a big chorus and a awesome melody. The horns are cool but that is all I feel the sing has going for it. This is obviously a Liam style song. I just have to stop expecting Noel style songs from Beady Eye. FOTF would not make my top 5 BDI tunes. A lot of Liam's songs tend to go nowhere and just repeat. Wigwam, Morning son etc... Its not a bad song though

“Flick of the Finger” is dreadful. It's slightly better than "Bring the Light". I’m not sure what is worse. Having to hear this song again, or read the comments from this post.

I've kinda lost faith in the album after reading how enthusiastic they were about this song. I can see what they were going for but it just falls miles short of it. I think this does a better job of that kind of thing:
Not that that's much cop either.

Over the past couple of weeks, i've actually seen lots of support for this song on twitter and the reviews have been good too. Too often fans are waiting for a Live Forever part 2 or something? It's a good rockin' song, that's it. Dont need to be looking too deeply into it

I linked a friend who isn't a big Oasis/Noel/Beady Eye fan (Morning Glory and DM are the only 2 albums he likes) this yesterday but he likes this song. It's all about opinions there is no right or wrong answer. Personally I like FOTF but can see why others don't. It's nowhere near the best song in the world but in my opinion it isn't nearly as bad as half of the stuff on their first album.
