I'm not a negative guy. In fact I love almost everything Oasis did and for the most part Beady eye. I think different gear still speeding was a decent album. Love Liam's voice even today. I rarely have a negative thing to say. With that said how is there "praise" for this song. It goes absolutely no where. Has lyrics that are just nonsense about nothing. Melody is well horrid. The brass section makes the intro interesting but that's about it. I still think we will have a decent album but come on what are you guys hearing? ??

Considering I havent heard the song in the context of the whole whole album, I cant honestly judge it yet.
I waill say, however, that my first impressions of it are very mixed - this comeing from the guy that usually loves all the shit, lol
At the moment, It's a tad droney for me and aside from the horns, nothing in it really got my attention or perked up my ears

Maybe I'm just easy to please, but I really like it. It's a step in the right direction for me, and it sounds like the start of something new and fresh. The horns get me every time and Liam's clear, raw vocals give me goosebumps. I liked DGSS, and was especially excited for their group efforts on songs after they released In the Bubble With a Bullet, which I think is their best song. I think when they work together, their best songs are produced. I'm excited for the future!

I like FOTF quite a bit. I don't think I love it yet, but I like it for two main reasons, the brass section and the new musical direction that it shows. While I didn't dislike DGSS and quite liked several of those songs, it did feel somewhat derivative. But this song, to me, shows a fresher sound and something that's not just 60s inspired or trying to fit into a set "mold." I also think it's a grower, and it's one of those songs that sounds great when it's turned on full-blast. An exciting kick-off for the new album.

It's good but it's not a big piece of music (even though the production tries to make us think the opposite). To start, the song structure is simple: There is no verse/bridge/chorus/solo (like Oasis). It's just a loop. The melody of the vocals is always the same, the same lines on and on. The same applies to the brass.
I take it as a small track, very well executed and produced. The quote speech at the end is a goal.
I like it, but the song itself, naked, is very simple and thin.

I guess it goes back to if you like songs with the classic structure or if you're open to other structures. I quite like some other genres, where repetitive lyrics and sounds are not an issue, it's the general mood of the song that matters, and I think a similar thing happens here.
I think the structure does not make the song weak or thin. You may not like it, and it's okay, but it isn't a reason to look down on the song or make it seem like it's on a lower category.

That's the beauty of music folks it's all about opinion and provoking emotion. I think liam said it before about the music connecting, it's all about the connection.

First of all you're apologizing for having an opinion, which is stupid. Secondly, you not liking the song will only make the people who do like it feel 'lucky' that they do. I do. Thirdly, this... ''oh the production saves the song from being shit'' is nonsense. The song is the fucking song. Would you say the same about ''Kashmir'' - I'm NOT comparing the two songs for one second but this song is also mainly about the production. If you strip away the production it would make it a completely different song but would be pointless because that's the main entity of the song.

Flick of the finger has a very uncommon structure for a song, but it is a great song. I see it like a hymn, there is one single melody/tune throughout the song and it matches perfect. You should give it a try as a different music, stop listening to the basic verse-chorus-verse-chorus song. And when people say: it goes nowhere, they better think it´s their problem, not the music.

To me FOTF is one of those 'instant feel good' songs, as soon as it starts, I immediately feel good, just like Roll With It

Sorry, but it goes nowhere and to be honest that has nothing to do with the structure. The structure is fine. It's far too simplistic to say, if you think it goes nowhere then you're not used to listening to different structures. You can have a loop structure and have variation through instrumentation. In the end you're working a key and anything you play in that key will sound good in terms of instrumentation. So to be honest, there's no reason to loop the same lyrics and the same horn sound, and same drums over and over again. That has nothing to do with structure. That's just a complete lack of variation that goes nowhere. I can buy alwaysnow saying it's more trying to fit a mood than anything else (which is why I think it's a pretty decent to good song), but saying that the problem is that people aren't used to listening to different structures just seems very music elitist. The drums are flat, the vocal is good...a bit nasally, and it's the same loop without any instrumental variation.

I think the overriding issue lies in how everyone defines the terms: great, good, fantastic, etc. I wouldn't go as far as calling the track "a big pile of donkey jizz" (have you heard anything by Beiber, Minaj, or Gaga) . . . but the song does leave something to be desired. And not even that bothers me. What gets to me is how BE have thrown it out there and declared that it is one of the top tracks of the record. If that be the case then the album is sure to be just like the track in question . . . a bit odd, not terrible, but lacking in something.

It´s not the song, it´s the people. They should let themselves go with the flow, feel the vibe of the song (which in the case of FOTF it´s amazing)You should´ve read (well) the first post of this thread to understand my point. And by your comments on structure and instrumentation, you actually make a very informed comment on it, therefore you are the elitist. You are complaining about drums, nasal vocals, loops? You are a snob, man. Who cares about nasal vocals when the song is able to cheer up people? Yes, you answered right: elitist people.
