Sally. Where are you I know Dylan's version is cool but it's Hendrix now .. And I posted I liked them as well .. So explain yourself here or , at meeting. That is all Good point WirralRiddler, I have read that Dylan quote before. and of course I can't argue with the man himself or you guys with much more musical experience than me. Just that Hendrix's version never grabbed me (brilliant guitar tho, that's the highlight), maybe I should give it another listen. for a long time didn't even know Bob Dylan wrote it and was surprised and loved it when I heard it (the original album one), not a hardcore Dylan fan or anything lol but All Along the Watchtower is one of my faves Ok SALLY no practice today lib and Lennon can have the field good point some day tho we will have to explore mr Hendrix deeper and ill change your mind if your game ?

original..... meh Paul Weller's version...The Modfather has much more expression in his voice imo and a lovely Weller guitar solo in there as well, he never overplays like Clapton and others he just plays what he needs to and it sounds great ...................................................................................................................................................... Just found this on YouTube.... How the hell did he manage to get THAT from this....

Yeh I'm guessing that's why it wasn't included on the red album even though it was a big tune for them in the early, to mid sixties

More Beatles....
The cover isn't too dissimilar to the original but Lennon's voice being ridiculously good as it was in the sixties wins it for me.
You can tell from they had really had got these old American rock and roll songs down to a fine art in their Hamburg days and the finished products on the Please Please Me album are immense. Lennon nailing Twist and Shout in one take after singing for hours straight is still amazing imo.

Don't know about you mimmihopps but i would like to have heard a full length version of 'His Latest Flame' by the Smiths. They only played "His Latest Flame" as a small intro for "Rusholme Raffians" live. I love that combination of those 2 songs. They also played James'"What's The World" live a couple of times as James has been supporting The Smiths back in those days and Moz was a good friend with James' front man. Billy Bragg's acoustic cover of "Jeane" is great too.
