It takes time for all albums to really be judged and fall into their place as best albums or favorite albums depending on how you look at it, but just take a look at 2013
My Bloody Valentine (m v b) David Bowie (The Next Day) //pretty much legends
upcoming albums from
Arcade Fire The National Arctic Monkeys //three of the most consistent and quality bands out there at the moment.
Beady Eye (honorary placing here, but it should be good this time)
and that's just the big names, there are countless more indie acts which some of you might like and might pass over others heads, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Youth Lagoon, Frightened Rabbit, ect. And of course theres always the next debut or band that missed it the first time around.
But seriously, what were some of the top albums last year, Lonerism (Tame Impala) and Bloom (Beach House)? Nothing against those, but I'm pretty fucking certain that this year we're in for something better, or a lot of things better

disclaimer: albums that have not come out yet not guaranteed to be good all albums may seem good/bad at first, especially compared to past efforts and sounds, and may take time to truly judge or appreciate. not all albums guaranteed 2013 release if you don't like any of these bands, i don't quite understand your taste and am confused as to why you would be looking here and what choices you have made in life to lead up to this point.

Graffiti on the Train by Stereophonics is and will be the best of the year. I agree, It'll be difficult to beat Graffiti On The Train though I'm optimistic that we'll get lots of good music this year.

Term/word "älternative" lost the meaning through years. I don't know what "alternative" and what not these days.
The year 2012 was an another great music year for me. Been to lots of gigs, discovered some good new bands and bought great records, "Valtari" by Sigur Ros, "Bloom" by Beach House, "Sonik Kicks" by Weller, "Banga" by Patti Smith, "Sun" by Cat Power etc.
This year will be the same. My first album I bought this year was "The Messenger" by my forever guitar hero.
I'm really looking forward to following new releases:
The National David Bowie
and hopefully the new albums by:
Ed Harcourt Broken Records Lisa Germano Sparrow and The Workshop

is there a date for arcade fires new album? No info on an Arcade Fire release date. If I had to guess, I would say early September. We still know very little info on the recording sessions other than that James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem is producing at least 3 tracks (hopefully more). I love how this band keeps such a low profile at all times despite great critical hype. They've never let me down. Full steam ahead!

I can't stop spinning the following 2013 albums. All recently came out. - Kurt Vile's Walkin' On A Pretty Daze- Deerhunter's Monomania- Low's Invisible Way- British Sea Power's Machineries of JoyOverall I think Atom For Peace's Amok is my favorite of 2013 with David Bowie not too far off. Had some free time just a while ago and listened to the Flaming Lips album & also Kurt Vile's. Both were very good. Will definitely listen again.
& is it just me or is Jake Bugg's album kinda overrated? I know it was #1 in the UK but it was just released here in the US so I'm wondering if it will get any attention. He's talented and the songs on it were decent, but nothing I found that exciting. I can see Two Fingers becoming a radio hit here, though. He's like the Justin Bieber of indie rock.

Just found this thread, If you guys have anything you wanna recommend me I haven't listened to, please do so.. I'm always up for new music. We seem to have similar taste - my most anticipated release has to be The National, which I didn't see on your list. Their last few releases have been consistently great, if you haven't heard them this album is probably just as good a starting point as any. They can be a bit of an acquired taste though Edit: Jake Bugg is another one of those hype artists, he's not bad, but his successes seem to be much greater than the quality of his work in comparison to other new artists. A result of more publicity I guess

The only album i am really looking forward to is Arctic Monkeys 5th effort. Beady eye of course i will take an interest in and buy as soon as its released, but i would be lying if i said it excites me like the new monkeys album does. As for the Jake Bugg talk, i've not bought his album yet but it's deffo on the to do list. Started to get into a few of his songs, he's only 19 and wrote all those songs himself, some when he was as young as 12 or 13. Can't help but be impressed with the lad, he's got the look and the attitude that i like as an oasis fan. Must admit i didn't really like his songs either but they have grown on me and the lad does have great taste, being a fan of both Oasis and the Arctic's.

I don't know as much of their material as I feel like I should, but I do love Boxer. They're one of those bands I need to listen to more of. I'll trust your taste in music and guess the new one will be good, though. Really digging the new Flaming Lips album at the moment. edit; also Merchandise's new EP is really good if anyone's into them here.

^ Same here with Temples, I think they could put out a really great album. Shelter Song (and the few others) are the jam.

I've seen Temples at Eurosonic in January in a really small venue and they were brilliant. They're really something. I bet they'll release their first album pretty soon.
I still like The Moons, but I'm glad that James formed Temples.

No Daft Punk love? the colaborations for their new album includes Todd Edwards, Giorgio Morover, Julian Casablancas, Pharrell & Nile Rodgers... and other that are about to be announced the genre might not be my favorite, but I enjoyed Discovery, few good singles that pretty much everyone can agree on too. Surprising (but cool) that Julian Casablancas is involved, never would have linked their sound with the Strokes in my life. The only album i am really looking forward to is Arctic Monkeys 5th effort. Beady eye of course i will take an interest in and buy as soon as its released, but i would be lying if i said it excites me like the new monkeys album does. to we have any clue as to what sound they'll be going for? I reckon they could still make their masterpiece - I'd like them to make an eclectic album that really shows off all the different styles they have/can still go through (without shitty lyrics like in Brick by Brick). Dunno whether Alex could write another 'I bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor' though.
