Anyone else think that this year was pretty average overall? I mean, lots of solid albums all over the place for indie music - but nothing that really seems as if it will ever be remembered as something truly special edit: I guess excluding Matt, you seem to have some sort of opinion on Sigur Ros' one . Nope, plenty of fantastic stuff. Every year has a bunch of special albums/tunes, there's simply too much music out there for a single year to be just average.

Felt 2012 was far more lackluster than 10 or 11, but still had its share of quality.
Lots of good debuts this year, surprised not to see any love for By The Sea or Toy on here.
Other debuts I really liked: Jake Bugg, Jessica Pratt, and The Spyrals.
As for established acts I really liked the offerings from Tennis, Goat, The Vandelles, Tame Impala, The Walkmen, and Cosmonauts.

As many of you have already posted, that Japandroids album is pretty bad ass. Nice to hear an album of just guitars, bass, drums and fist pumping anthems.

Why don't I like any new music or almost everything released the past 5 years? I'm 20 years old ffs and I feel like an out of touch old man! Not liked a single song or band in this thread, everything just sounds the same. Almost every band is full of boring hipster student types and all they sound the same, kinda like MGMT if you know what I mean. There's some exceptions obviously but I really do hate music at the moment! Someone please find me a decent new band not part of that scene please Some guitars would be nice! For me, the only two albums that I really liked this year are: The Enemy - Streets In The Sky Kent - Jag är inte rädd för mörkret The Enemy definitely falls into the category of what you are looking for! And its their best album yet. Solid. Also, Kartica is a new band that falls into your category, but they haven't released any single yet. Same with Palma Violets, whose first album arrives in spring.

I think in terms of big acts, it was pretty sparse, but a lot of great non-mainstream music out there. Coming to this website helps a lot, because in this day and age when alternative/indie/rock bands rarely get played on radio its so easy to pass you by. Anyway, I must say I really enjoyed Wrecking Ball by Bruce Springsteen. Still churning out quality records I think. A relief aswell after a slight wobble he has with Working on a Dream.

On a side note.....The L4E Awards may have to be postponed There just aren't enough complete ballots. I've only received 7 complete ballots, and the other 5 that I have are less than half way filled out. I know there are more than 12 regulars who can fill out ballots. There 15-25 regulars who visit regularly enough to fill out ballots. I'm extending voting one for more time. This time for the next 72 hours. If I can't get the ballots to extend them, they may have to be cancelled.
