I am making a Oasis mix CD for a friend who I am newly converting to Oasis. What songs do you think I should definitely put on there? I have some choices, but I don't want to leave out something good that I might have forgotten about. It can be anything: bootlegs, demos, covers.....

It's so fucking hard to make an Oasis Mix. Give variety. Songs like Live Forever, Champagne Supernova, and the Masterplan. Rock songs like Cigs and Booze, Supersonic, and Stay Young. More Psycahdellic songs like Gas Panic, Who feels Love, Let's All Make Believe. Softer Oasis songs. If the dude's a beatles fan, include the IATW cover. That'll rock his world.

I agree with shortdude, give variety. I personally think that "Slide Away" is a must.

Cast No Shadow, Hey Now, She's Electric, Acquiesce, Talk Tonight, Listen Up, Stay Young, Songbird, Little By Little, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, The Hindu Times, Sunday Morning Call, Roll It Over, Go Let It Out!, D'You Know What I Mean, Girl In The Dirty Shirt.
16 perfect tracks, although you could leave out Stay Young or Girl In The Dirty Shirt if you run out of room.

i think if you do a mix, you just can't leave out the masterplan, acquiesce, and half the world away.

Thank you so much everyone who replied! See, I was having the same problem myself, there are just too many good ones to choose from. I ended up making two CDs. Well, actually three, because I also made one of the setlist of the current tour. Here's what I went with. I tried to put some alternate versions of some of the classics & some songs you wouldn't find on the albums. Now, don't yell at me for forgetting some favorites, cos I forgot Slide Away & that is one of my favorites! Disc 1: 1. Setting Sun – The Chemical Brothers & Noel 2. Scorpio Rising – Death in Vegas & Liam 3. Helter Skelter 4. D’Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman 5. Bring It On Down (Live)(from the Shakermaker single) 6. Talk Tonight 7. Acquiesce 8. Cum On Feel The Noize 9. Round Are Way 10. Live Forever (Noel Singing, Bonehead piano) 11. Flashbax 12. (As Long As They’ve Got) Cigarettes in Hell 13. Full On 14. Songbird (Rock Demo) Disc 2: 1. Bonehead’s Bank Holiday 2. Pass Me Down The Wine 3. Where Did It All Go Wrong (Live – Jools Holland) 4. Setting Sun & Fade In-Out (Live – Noel Acoustic) 5. Carry Us All 6. Columbia 7. Gas Panic! 8. Step Out 9. Stop Crying Your Heart Out 10. Supersonic 11. Wonderwall (Noel 2003) 12. That’s Entertainment – Paul Weller & Noel 13. Let Forever Be – The Chemical Brothers & Noel Thanks again for everyone's help!

If i was making an Oasis compilation CD for a friend for the first time i would keep it fairly basic and go for a lot of the big hits. Personally i'd go for: 1. Rock 'n' Roll Star, 2. The Hindu Times, 3. Morning Glory, 4. Supersonic, 5. Columbia, 6. Acquiesce, 7. Slide Away, 8. Some Might Say, 9. Cigarettes & Alcohol, 10. The Masterplan, 11. Roll With It, 12. Wonderwall, 13. Keep The Dream Alive, 14. Live Forever, 15. Don't Look Back In Anger, 16. Champagne Supernova. I don't know if they would all fit onto one CD but that is the sort of songs i'd look at putting on. Also, from what i have found out when doing compilations CD's for friends is that the order the songs are put in can make a lot of differance as to whether or not they enjoy it.

Well, I figured that the setlist CD covered the basics. I chose those songs because I wanted him to hear some great songs that you wouldn't normally hear if you just stuck to the albums. I have a fondness for the B-sides (in case you didn't notice). If I made a CD today, I would probably pick an entirely different list, & if I made one tomorrow, the list would probably be different too. I still can't believe I forgot Slide Away!
By the way, my friend listened to Disc 1 & half of Disc 2. I got the thumbs up so far, but he said he wouldn't have picked those songs either. He said had never heard most of them, but he likes them.

Glad to hear your friend liked the Oasis CD, cookypuss. That's the thing you see, nobody in this thread knows your friends knowledge of Oasis apart from yourself so you probably made the right choice of songs. The list i done a couple of posts back was the sort of compilation i would go for if the person i was making an Oasis CD for hadn't heard much of the band. Oasis have an amazing set of b-sides, demos, covers etc that you can't really go wrong with whatever you choose.
