Is the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame internationally renowned? I've never seen as much discussion about it except on these forums where it seems to come up every time a British band (who isn't in it) is mentioned. I haven't really met any Americans that hold in such a high regard, it's kind of just a thing that isn't really important or relevant. Maybe it's because I'm in college and out of touch with the entirety of America, but The Smiths certainly aren't underrated here. Pretty much all of the American music publications I read adore them and you'd probably be beaten if you say you dislike them in a place like Brooklyn. ;D

I like The Smiths. What Difference Does It Make ? is probably my favourite song by them. It sounds so fresh anytime I listen to it. I also like Morrissey's solo career

Quick question - does anybody here own the complete Smiths box set and can tell me whether the audio quality is (notably) better? Cause I only have the Sound of the Smiths best of right now and want to get the albums too. Is it worth buying the set?

Cause I only have the Sound of the Smiths best of right now and want to get the albums too. Is it worth buying the set? Definitely worth it - it's way better than the old CD releases and sounds clear, polished and fresh much like The Sound Of The Smiths. The mastering was awful on those old ones. Personally I think the remastering is better than The Beatles ones. Much like th Beatles boxset, the CD's come in the original packaging of the 80s, making it seem more authentic. It's a great purchase and probably my most treasured collection.

Listening to them now for the first time in awhile. Again, way to difficult to pick favorite songs, but The Hand that Rocks the Cradle has always been one of my top picks.

Ah The Smiths, mainly in their first album, was really influenced by Joy Division, even Morrissey vocals resembles Ian Curtis a little, just take a listen on Insight to see for yourself. wait wut?

So... my love for the Smiths is growing unstoppably and I need to share my love with others who love them equally as much somewhere. I know there are a lot of you who adore The Smiths. My question is, if you know of a brilliant forum - just like this one, only that the main topic are the Smiths and Moz/Marr solo? I'm also in the process of writing a sociological paper for my studies with the Smiths as the empirical source and I am probably going to need people I can sort of interview about their opinions on certain aspects or simply some kind of impressions. Were any of you up for that? Thanks in advance I'm not so good at remembering (user-)names, but I'm quite sure that at least matt and mimmihopps are absolute Smiths fanatics, and rightly so

I'm not on it myself but I frequently browse the place and it's the best site for hardcore Smiths fans.

Anyone who's never heard of String Quartet Tribute, should listen to it.
Their "This Charming Man" is brilliant. They've also done for Oasis and that's fantastic too.

For those who haven't heard it yet.
Fantastic cover of James' What's The World from Barrolands 1985:
James front man Tim Booth was a good friend with Moz and James supported The Smiths on part of Meat Is Murder Tour.
One of The Smiths underrated, yet one of my favourite songs "Jeane" has been covered by several singers:
Billy Bragg
I really love the one covered by Sandie Shaw
Kirsty MacColl (a good friend with the band back in time. RIP) covers "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby"
MacColl has done a cover of Billy Bragg's "New England" too.

I'll add myself to the list of Smiths fanatics on here. To me, there is no band better than them - not saying they are the best band of all time, but what they did nobody got close to doing better. Not that many bands did it at all.

I knew about true-to-you, but I think it's a pity that there isn't some kind of forum on that side. I've been reading on Morrissey-solo for the last couple of days and I'm not really sure what to think of it. There are a lot of idiots on there as well who seemingly only post in order to insult moz.
But what's the t-shirt about? What does Morrissey have against a fan page?

Never a good idea if you ask me.
