On first listen I thought "Dream On" was a quite average tune, then I've grown to like it, but having seen the video I almost hate it now.
The chick in the video is really annoying.

I thought the video wasn't as good as the others, but those three did benefit from the story being told. This one was kind of out of left field. I thought Noel's parts were really funny, personally.
Also, not getting a whole lot of the hate for the IIHAG video. I like the subtlety of it.

Dream On is a great song live, it SHOULD sell itself in that forum.
I haven't seen the video yet but if it's as poor as people are saying then I've gotta say I just don't get it. I mean there are about 15+ MUSIC VIDEO channels available on SKY TV. To say a music video doesn't matter today is naive as somebody is watching these channels. Also they can be repeated for years, and used in compilations & best of's being a constant reminder of an artist's work.
Another example for Noels camp - Promotion could be alot cooler & better.

Mediocre. I'd like to se him performing in his videos rather than having unknown characters and poor stories. It's nonsense.

And yet despite anyone arguing how important music videos are for promotion I can't help but notice that despite BDI having "better videos" according to most they have better sales.
Fact is that very few Oasis and I think no post-Oasis videos are getting heavy rotation on any music channel so it wouldn't matter if there there were 800 channels showing music videos. They would still be filled with Katy Perry and Lady Gaga videos. People that are selling an aesthetic as much as a sound and in terms of appeal are as much or more about looking interesting as sounding good
Only use for them seems to be a presence on YouTube and video clips to show when they appear of television.
Some videos are better than others. But I think it's a very rare video that will actually MAKE a song take off. And frankly I don't think either BDI or Noel are personally capable of embracing the kind of quirkiness of perfomance to make a video a really good watch. So I am actually hoping that Noel continues to only cameo in his own videos. Only chance he has of actually having something interesting. TDOYAM was really good. WAL was good to average. IIHAG was boring. DO is meh.
Videos al la BTL or TR, basically a group of people standing around looking kind of cool, don't really make much of an impact. Frankly it's boring as all hell.
Personally I hope Noel doesn't retreat into that boring idea of it being a video him miming a tune for most of the video. Cut aways of the band are OK...but no one but the biggest fans is really intrigued by a video of a band miming.
Sure they won't all be gems. But at least I won't be bored stiff by them.

Some videos are better than others. But I think it's a very rare video that will actually MAKE a song take off. Not that there is any common point with Noel or that I wish Noel would do it. But we have recent example of artist taking off because of the whole pakage and videos are big part of it. Take Lana Del Rey, the buzz was for the whole pakage : good song, intriguing singer and interesting video. In this pakage aka Music, look, personality, sleeve and music video, Video was always the left off in Oasis, the thing nobody care about with Oasis. It doesn't matter because it didn't make the band less good, it just would have been nice that they took a little more attention to it than just can't be arsed with it.

But that is another artist that is selling an aesthetic as much as she is selling music. A much different type of artist than Noel.
She is a pretty young woman but the video that I've seen actually isn't particularly interesting IMO.
The problem I have with most of these comments is that many seem to want Noel to be preforming in his video. Which is the absolute antithesis of doing something particularly interesting.
Not saying this video is any good...but I am glad that he has gone the route of getting other people to act the stories rather than being boring and doing what some people are suggesting and miming a performance.
Fact is that no one in Oasis ever gave a shit about aesthetics. You had to buy into the band and the music to think even the early videos were particularly good. Why are we surprised that Noel doesn't give a shit about aesthetics?
But I'd rather them continue on this route setting up different premises and stories to present, which varying degree of success, and hope that one day they hit on something that works well than revert back to the boring shots of a band performing like BDI did for 3/4 of their video.
Millionaire may not have been amazing. But I'm glad they switched it up finally.

Now if I am watching these epic video's from the 70's & 80's, what will the kids watch in 15 years? IIHAG?! My point is Noel's music will stand the test of time (Like Beatles & Stones) no doubt, but his video's wont. Yet they should!

The videos of tunes that were at the top of the charts in those years I dunno...if the song is good I don't care much about whether the videos cheesy. This isn't great...but it's funny. And the concept isn't bad. It's actually well connected to the song. About a woman stuck in a domestic life longing to break out of true restriction. Which is the basic concept of the song as well. That being said, part of the reason that the video is meh IMO is that the song is hardly a standout. They won't play this video is 15 years for more than it being a bit cheesy...but also because it will hardly be worth hearing in 15 years. The whole thing is underwhelming IMO

Album like DM or MG are cult object also because of their sleeves. They are memorables, everyone knows MG's sleeve, it became a piece of art of his own, same or Wonderwall's sleeve. How much people incluing me have tried to reproduce MG's picture in London ? The band had a strong image. Their music their look, their lad culture, their sleeve, All of this was a pakage, a global piece of art that was Oasis. On the contrary, Ride is good example of a band with no real image associated to them. But Oasis' videos were unfortunatly always very poor and still are. Wonderwall or CS being a notables exceptions. And the sleeves aren't that good since Brian Cannon left.

We have/had kids watching Oasis video's for years now & a new generation of fans of the DM video's for exapmle. If Noel's solo career (Which has already been more sucsessful than anticipated) continue's then he will be a credible solo artist in the future so potentially have a "best of" hour on a video station. To sum up, Noel's video's should be cooler & more stand out to appeal to fans now AND in future. (especially if the song isn't the strongest) I still think the music video IS a relevant medium. Also what music video's will YOU want be watching in 15 years? Better than this?!

He's never bothered with it before and he's not exactly suffered from that - why would you think he'd start now? Yes, he's technically a new act, but he's been in the industry for twenty years and everybody knows who he is and what kind of music he makes. He doesn't need a new image to sell his music.

There's nothing interesting about The Roller's video. Millionaire was pretty good, but part of the reason I like it is the film effects they use, which isn't connected with the concept of the video. TDOYAM is generally acknowledged to be very good, and WAL, while weaker overall, no doubt gets played a bit more than it would because of Russell Brand and the sluts. Also, I think a lot of people like that the first three videos were a trilogy - that definitely adds interest, and made them by far the most ambitious videos ever filmed for a Gallagher project. The DO video is alright. It's nothing special, but it's not nearly as heinous as a lot of people are making it out to be.

It's just that he's as lazy on the video subject as he 's always been. It's too bad cause without Oasis, he could have experiment a little more in this departement. But no, he can't be arsed, like he can't be arsed to do a lot of stuff. As for the sleeves, of course there are the work of Brian Cannon, but you won't make me believe that Noel, as control freak as he was didn't care about the sleeves. He wanted the band to have this image, to be real and so the sleeves to represent what they were, to go along with the music. The vinyl or cd as object have always been something important to Noel, I hardly think he didn't care what was represented on his albums or singles, at leats in the 90's. In later years, he clearly didn't care, proof the horrible sleeve of DBTT.

Every song on that album has been stuck in my head at one point or another. There are days where it's in the bottom on the album and there are days where it's the middle.
