As we have nothing better to do round here at the moment, how about a little IIHAG chart guessing game.
It's a radio friendly Tune with a capital T, and if it had been the first single I'd have said top ten easy.
However, as it's the third single and all the die hard fans already have the b-side, and there'll probably be a fair bit of competition because of all the kids getting iTunes vouchers for Christmas... I reckon number 18

#28. Should have been the first single and then it would have gained casual fans alongside the die hards, recipe for a top 10.
It's a shame we are guessing low chart figures these days, but that's the state of the music world.

If it doesn't have a high position, which I don't expect to, I'd be happy if it charted somewhere in the Top 30 and had a nice chart run. Take AKA...WAL. It barely charted in the Top 20 at #20, yet during its chart run it has surpassed, IOT, FD, TSOTL, LTBL, about I believe it's only a thousand or so off from passing WFL. In terms of chart position it has been the worse Noel related single since Supersonic, but in terms of sales it has been the best Gallagher related single since TIOBI which was 6 years ago.

SHOULD be top 5 but album has been out a while now.
I agree should have been first UK and eg Australian single and NG would now be far more popular than he is now.
DOYAM is too MOR and twee and probably turned off to many people. IIAAG is just pure class though.
Can't help get the feeling with how they've handled the singles (like why did they release WAL ands DOYAM, probably the weakest songs on album) that with this album they have clutched defeat from the jaws of victory.
Still I love the album but release the good singles like RM, DO and especially IIHAG

Still I love the album but release the good singles like RM, DO and especially IIHAG I agree with how Noel has handled singles. I think he's done a fine job with singles actually. I also agree with his reasoning for having WAL and TDOYAM as singles. WAL has done more to spread Noel's audience than IIHAG would ever have done. Because WAL has pulled in many non-fans in my opinion. There's a reason that the album is still Top 15 and it's not because just Oasis fans are buying it. The people who are buying it now are either casuals or people who may have never brought an Oasis album before. I think he was right to think that if he had released IIHAG first, then there might have been some blow back because it is so Oasis-like (same as with RM). Yes IIHAG is a great song, but I also believe that it might have been too obvious to be the first single. I think he was right to not just try to appeal to ONLY the Oasis fanbase. Which is what IIHAG probably would have done. I don't believe that it would have had more widespread impact than WAL and TDOYAM. And to be fair those two tracks created a great buzz for him because they were a bit different than people were expecting. In the end, the numbers do not lie. WAL has outsold the last 5 Oasis singles in the UK. It has sold nearly 115,000 copies. Would IIHAG really had made a difference worldwide? I don't know. In my honest opinion I don't think it would have changed his worldwide numbers too much. It may have meant a bit of a higher placing on the charts in some countries, but I don't think it would have set the world on fire. If only for the pure reason that it really is too much like Oasis. I remember playing it to a friend of mine who had never brought an Oasis record, but loved the first two singles (WAL & TDOYAM). The only comments she had were, "it's really good, but it sounds like everything else he has put out." Did WAL and TDOYAM lead to worldwide success? No. But they led to great success and a widening fanbase in a country where he desperately needed to establish one quickly. And that was his own country. Because of those two songs he has at least established a nice sized fanbase in his biggest market. And in that respect both the singles did their jobs.

Noel didn't need to establish a fanbase in the UK, come on. He did that in 1994.

Noel didn't need to establish a fanbase in the UK, come on. He did that in 1994. Of course he needed to establish a fanbase. BDI showed that the entirity of the Oasis fanbase were not going to follow the Gallaghers where ever they go. It's not unheard of for artists that leave bands to flop when going solo...even talented members Neither Noel or Liam are guaranteeds a viable career post-Oasis. To assume any of their "success" should dismissed as inevitable isn't fair to all the hard work they have all put in. I think it'll chart top 30 maybe top 20. It'll chart for the first time the last week of the year. From what I am given to understand...that week is usually pretty low for album sales? I would assume the single chart sales are similar? I don't think it'll be huge sales but I think that he'll get some benefit for having a devoted fanbase.

If you want to keep making music without blowing your own money, it's kind of about record sales.
