i didn't really feel like doing this when the thread was first posted but now i think im ready to do it now. 1. Definitely Maybe(too many anthems/classics) 2. What's the Story Morning Glory(singles were incredible, love the whole album) 3. The Masterplan(shouldn't really count as it's a compilation, should it?) 4. Don't Believe the Truth(i really like most of the songs, LOTS of highlights) 5. Be Here Now(i really like all the guitars, and Liam sounds amazing, songs are long but whatever) T6. Different Gear Still Speeding**(4LW kicks ass, very consistent album for the most part with 2 stinkers imo) T6. Heathen Chemistry**(I enjoyed the singles, SCYHO is a classic imo) 8. Standing on the Shoulder of Giants(roll it over is awesome, i also like GLIO but not much after that) 9. Dig Out Your Soul(TSOTL and IOT are the only highlights imo, i like BIU and WFTR to a lesser extent) 10. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds(love LOVE EOTR, but too many fillers, don't really like that some of the songs sound VERY similar to something Oasis released | TDOYAM:TIOBI AKA BA:POTQ ) I still don't see why people compare AKA BA to POTQ. They're really not the same song. They're not even in the same time signature. I think the connection between them is pretty tenuous. It's like people someone had a checklist and said, "hmmmmmm, bongos, Noel singing, and it's acoustic. It has to sound like POTQ." For me, both songs have a DBTT sound to them, but I don't believe that they sound "very" similar. At least no more similar than say Up in the Sky and Bring It On Down are similar. Both drawing from the same roots, yet having their own sound.

well people obviously hear it, they, or should i say we, are not making it up. Another thing, as much as i like IIHAG, it sounds a lot like that Backstreet Boys' song... "incomplete". And we're not talking "it kinda sounds like...", we could merge the tunes together and no one would be able to tell they're two completely different songs. Btw, Falling Down and Jesus Freaks have similar vibe as well, i mean sing FD's lyrics over SBAJF's instrumental and it'd sound basically the same. In the end, it's not so much about that, it's about the songs not being strong enough, they may be good enough for some unknown up and coming pop 'n' folk act, but not to the supposed "mastermind" of Oasis, the guy that delivered us proper ROCK ANTHEMS. THe whole argument of "just because it's not rock n roll doesn't mean it's not as good or not good at all" is fucking baloney. Rock is better period, call me narrow minded if you want but again, it's just my opinion and at one point, Noel agreed with me, proof? HERE

lgfaver's knowledge of the Backstreet Boys catalogue of work is worrying...
As for the actual albums;
Definitely Maybe - what else? WTSMG - almost as brilliant as the one about The Masterplan - song-wise it might even be better than MG Be Here Now - too bloated, lots of brilliant songs though DBTT - last full Oasis album with that "Oasis energy" NGHFB - very consistent with some great songs DOYS - up to Falling Down the best Oasis album since WTSMG, after that utter dross SOTSOG - few too many fillers, singles are great though Heathen Chemistry - Liams best song and 3 belting singles save an otherwise abject album DGSS - Pretty good first effort, lack of standout songs stops it moving up 1 or 2 places.

Rock is better period, call me narrow minded if you want but again, it's just my opinion and at one point, Noel agreed with me, proof? HERE No that clip doesn't prove your point. It just means he likes Rock more than Jazz. Really, that's your proof to your narrow minded claim, and yes, it is narrow mind. Noel probably still believes that Rock is better than Jazz, but that's because he dislikes Jazz. I didn't see anything in there that said, I think rock is all might and it pisses all over folk or blues or any other genre. In the end it comes down to personal taste, and I believe that a song like IIHAG is clearly better than anything on DOYS, DBTT, HC, and SOTSOG. I also believe that to be the same with EOTR. So I don't know what you're on about with the songs not being strong enough. The amazing songs on this album are better than almost any of the songs on the previous 4 Oasis albums whether Rock or not. And even the weaker tracks are not as weak as the weakest tracks on the last four Oasis albums. I know everyone has their own taste, but anyone who would take I Can See A Liar over TDOYAM on the sole basis that one is rock and the other is folk is being narrow minded. To say that that might be better because Rock reigns supreme over everything, in my mind is pure nonsense.

Just listened to DGSS again after a few months off of it... and well, NGHFB is just in another league. There's just not the Noely magic.
Anyways, my ranking
1. WTSMG 2. DM 3. BHN 4. NGHFB 5. SOSTOG 6. DOYS 7. HC 8. DBTT 9. DGSS

DGSS is below par. Just too many bad songs, a few average ones, and only a couple of good ones. By far the best is Four Letter Word, and it's about as good as Turn Up the Sun, which is good but not great.
High flying Birds is a very good collection of songs, but it doesn't have the great peaks of Oasis albums. I'd put it above Dig Out Your Soul and Heathen Chemistry for its consistency, but only barely.
So I would go
DM MG
TM DBTT BHN
SOTSOG
HFB
HC DOYS
DGSS

1. Definitely Maybe - perfect. 2. Morning Glory - so many classics, but not as consistent as DM. 3. Masterplan - some great songs, but a bit too long and disjointed to get that great album 'feel'. 4. Don't Believe The Truth - The only 21st century Oasis album to really get it right. 5. Be Here Now - A couple of great and songs, but way too long and too little variation. 6. SOTSOG - I always seem to prefer albums whose second half is better than the first, and I love 4 of the last 5 tracks on this. 7. Heathen Chemistry - a feel good return to the more classic oasis sound, but distressingly top heavy. 8. DGSS - catchy but forgettable. 9. DOYS - a crushing disappointment.
I've deliberately left out NGHFB, as I see it as a different genre. I don't see this as a bad thing, it's just harder to compare. If I had to rank it I might even put it at 3, as it just keeps getting better for me. As for comparing AKA... BA to POTQ, that's like comparing Cast No Shadow to Probably All in the Mind...

If your brain can't process that, then maybe it's you the one that's narrow minded. heck, if you ask me, you're just in denial. Having said all that, you made a good point, it comes down to personal preference. Unfortunately for the Noel Army, his own words are coming back to haunt him. Like Noel, i believe that Rock shits all over any other genre, it sucks for Noel that now without Liam, he just can't produce that great sounding rockin' song. He's like the Mitt Romney of british music lol

He's like the Mitt Romney of british music lol You haven't made a good point yet and you're saying that I'm in denial. You said that BA sounds like POTQ...really? Now you're saying that there's an interview where Noel clearly contradicts his views on music when he doesn't? So he says Rock is better than jazz. So I'm suppose to take from it that by jazz he means all music? That's a pretty tenuous jump in logic if there is any logic. That's like me seeing an interview where Noel says that ice cream is clearly better than cake. And then saying, yeah he thinks ice cream pisses on all food. Yeah, I'm in denial. If Noel had actually said the phrase that "rock pisses on all music", then yeah it would be his personal preference. But it would still be narrow minded. And if he did contradict himself in that interview then I would applaud you for catching it and calling him on it, but don't give me an interview that states otherwise and then say I'm in denial for not taking the giant leap in logic that you have. If there is a "Noel army", then you make it fairly easy for them to defend him by bringing up weak points and non existent proof.

I would just like to say that there's a lot of people who are ranking NGHFB in their top 4. I think these people should see my thread about NGHFB being close to WTSMG. I need the support!

Just be honest and say you prefer BDI.

four letter word aside LAG's rock songs are strongest on DBTT anyway. Noel was the only one who wrote rockers on DOYS. The strength of DGSS was it's ballads and slower songs, when it tried to rock (B&S) it fell a bit flat.

Even though there may be more rock songs on the latter 2 albums, i perfer the rock songs on dgss to those on bhn or doys and hence why i put them bellow dgss this is all just my opinion anyway, everyone is entitled to agree or disagree
