There was a song called "Stop The Clocks", which you've probably heard of, that Noel wrote within the past year or so for this album. Supposedly it was the best tune he had ever written. He played it to some friends who, in the mid nineties, had told him they thought Wonderwall was average, but they were amazed by this song. For some reason however, it's not on this album (I think he just said it didn't 'fit').
But I remember this happening on Heathen Chemistry as well: he supposedly wrote a great tune that for some reason wasn't on the album, I think it was called "Shout It Out Loud."
Then I remembered a really, really old interview before Morning Glory where he talked about another song he had written - the "Hey Jude of britpop" - two days after he wrote Supersonic, although this turned out to be All Around The World, which has obviously already been released; but this just demonstrates the fact that Noel does stockpile what he thinks of as being great tracks for future albums.
Also I remember him saying, prior to the release of Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants that the first three albums were Oasis Mark I, and that ...Giants would mark the start of the second trio of albums, Oasis Mark II, now culminating in Don't Beleive The Truth. Maybe the idea is that Oasis Mark III will start off with another bona fide classic?
Plus, his public songwriting output hasn't been as prolific as it was in the nineties, but he has a reputation for constantly writing songs: where are they?
Furthermore, we all know Noel isn't the type to just rush into things - he'll spend years crafting what he sees as a perfect album, like with Definately Maybe, before releasing it - maybe he has had another classic in the works for years, releasing any good songs that don't fit on it as other albums such as Heathen Chemistry and SOTSOG in the meantime!
Ah well, the new album looks set to be their best since the mid 90's, anyway. Until their next album. Which will be better than Definately Maybe multiplied by Morning Glory. Because that is what Paul McCartney says if you play Wonderwall backwards. And it says it in the morse code on Do you Know What I Mean?

If He's saving songs for future albums then just proves how Noel changes his mind...in the 90's he used to slag off artists who used to do that

What is this about the morse code and wonderwall backwards? Something that is very true and not at all a downright blatant lie that I just made up Actually, the morse code to DYKWIM allegedly does say something, but it's some kind of typical 'Mad For It'-type comment. Oh yeah, about that Shout It Out Loud song rockandrool, I probably should have done some research before putting in that!

I read in an interbiew with Noel somewhere abck in '97 that the morse code bit on DYKWIM was meaningless, it was just put in there cos it sounded good.
I think it's obvious that Noel does stockpile songs. He's been doing so ever since the band started, regrdless fo whatever bravado he may trot out saying that he made them all up the week before recording. AATW was a really old song that he saved for BHN, Going Nowhere was written some 7 years before it was released as a B-side to SBM, etc. This is not to say that he doesn't write fresh material for each album, but I think he definitely does store stuff up. Stop The Clocks is just the latest example (that we know of).

I'm not going to smite you, I'm only kidding, insult me and I'll smite you not if you make up some garbage about Wonderwall backwards...and about Noel stockpiling songs, I think Let There Be Love and Stop the Clocks can pretty much be evidence of that...

I think that this is the end of Oasis Mark II and Oasis Mark III will begin with Oasis, doing their work on the next three albums, as the next contract is rumoured to include. I also think that we will see another b-side album in the next couple of years. So I hope for another three or four records in the next decade...

yeah i agree i think he is stockpiling anthems as he wanted this album to have no anthems on and considering he wrote 30 songs in the last two years (he sed on radio 1) i think he has already got his last album figured out to end oasis on a high songs all worthy of no.1 chart single status like all of whats the story. i know he has always stockpiled songs but i think he has been doin it more than ever with anthems to keep them away from sony's rights

The instrumental demo of Stop The Clocks didn't sound THAT promising to me

who knows if that was a real demo or a fake though...it didn't sound bad and if i heard a instrumental demo before the melody of the actual song it would be tough to tell...jmo though

I wonder if we'll eventually see a new version of the SOTSOG demo "Solve My Mystery" I always really like that one. Maybe it'll eventually get a LTBL style make-over.

yeah that would be cool..a new SMM would sound top...always wondered why it was left off of SOTSOG as that album couldve been so much better

Imagine if the likes of Solve My Mystery, Carry Us All and Lets All Make Believe had been finished properly. That album really would have been a lot better, though actually I'd rather see Solve My Mystery re-done now as the SOTSOG style production could have wasted it. Same with Let There Be Love, so glad Noel waited on it.
