What did you SERIOUSLY expect? Oasis only did 52K with a much higher profile when DOYS came out. Plus we have already established that the delayed release probably hurt the sales.
Noel was never going to SMASH it in the US. It's a market that he is going to have to grow...and which may come to nothing regardless of how much effort they put in.
The US is a market geared towards the next big thing....which is never going to be a 44 year old singer-songwriter.
What he needs to do now is put in the effort to grow the audience. Maybe it'll work...maybe it won't. But frankly...the cards are stacked against him in this market.
He's doing the right things. Touring in major city centers to promote it's release, doing TV, and hopefully continues to work with radio station like KROQ and the Current to get the word out.

Where are ye getting #18? I see 28?
1 - - 28 * GALLAGHER*NOEL HIGH FLYING BIR NOEL GALLAGHER'S HIGH FLYING B 18704 999 389 19098
Translate for easy understanding: Position: #28 This weeks sales: 18,704 Last weeks sales: 389 % Increase: 999% Total Sales: 19,098
The reason there would have been sales last week I assume is due to shops selling the album early either by mistake or by not giving a fcuk.
That MTV report is wrong unfortunately!

Noel Gallagher's solo debut, High Flying Birds, debuts at #28. This is about on par with the debut in March of the first album by Gallagher's former Oasis colleagues Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer and Andy Bell. Those musicians, under the band name Beady Eye, debuted at #31 with Different Gear, Still Speeding. (That album collapsed after its so-so debut and has sold just 29K copies to date.) Oasis reached its chart peak in August 1997 when Be Here Now debuted at #2.

Well it charted anyways!
Suprised Beady Eye sold 10k more. (Not because I think they're shit or anything, just that you could expect the same hardcore of fans to buy both albums). Guess the staggered release is to blame for the difference.

Hopefully Noel manages a few weeks in the top 200. Beady Eye managed only 2 weeks unfortunately, it went #31-168-Out

Trends seem to be Noel doing just under half of what Oasis did and BDI just under a third first week sales wise?

I live in a major market area of the US (Boston), am a huge fan and I barely heard any advertising/radio play regarding the album. If I wasn't a fan, I may have missed the news completely. Same with the concert last week.
As the gig got closer, I saw a few tv commercials and an article/advert in the paper here or there, but otherwise advertising was almost non-existent.
What I'm getting at is that, yeah, there may be a generally lazy attitude in America towards Noel/music in general, but there could also have been more promotion, too. I heard TDOYM three times on the radio and IIHAG once so far. That's hardly going to rack up interest.
I think we're looking at the results of a poor economy coupled with the ease of downloading music illegally, moreso than a "who cares" attitude about Noel and the music... it's just too bad because these songs could really find an audience if more people heard them.
At least the gigs have been well attended and everyone seems to love the new stuff... I just wish there were better numbers. I feel like it's a never ending cycle with Oasis here: lack luster sales lead to less promotion, which lead to even LESS sales and interest, which leads to LESS promotion... and so on.
It makes it hard for those of us here in the US who are fans!

And it ends. I didn't think Noel would be this bad. This sucks.
Chart run.
Noel Gallagher: 28-112-Out Beady Eye: 31-168- Out
Beady Eye did a bit worse, but they both only stayed on the charts for 2 weeks.

I'm just happy I can catch him on some TV shows and I bought his CD at Target!! Yeah Target!! And they had 3 copies! So to me it will be hard to get any more mainstream for Noel

On one hand it's disappointing... On the other hand, at least we get to see him at smaller venues! Definitely prefer these theater gigs compared to arenas.
