Just watching back the radio 2 show last night and my dad walked in and slagged it off to the hilt, the miserable old fuck. But anyway, some thoughts. Positives - That bassist is good on bv's, and stacey is good on the drums.
- The Band seems to have settled in quite well, and it's to the point that I DON'T feel awkward seeing Oasis songs played by someone from The Zutons.
- Wrong beach absolutely fucking rocks live, and I think it should close the set instead of little by little
- Noel seems to be fine as a frontman, doesn't look anywhere near as awkward as we saw during them foreign TDOYAM & IIHAG TV performances.
- The atmosphere at the Apollo on the 29th was absolutely amazing, and I'd say it topped the 2 Oasis gigs I went to. Can't wait for the 02 in February
Negatives - Noel's voice has deteriorated since the tour started (maybe this is just because he hasn't had to sing every song on the set for any amount of time, let alone about 10 gigs in 2 weeks)
- As much as I love his voice, it's hard not to listen to him live and miss Liam. I thought I'd feel this on the record but strangely didn't until I saw him last night. I don't think his voice is strong enough to sing 15 full band songs over guitars and drums that were ridiculously loud. Freaky Teeth is a prime example, absolutely crying out for a Liam snarly vocal, could've been mega. I just don't think his voice is good/strong enough for songs like this live.
- The keyboard player is a bit of a goon.
- Talk Tonight, Half The World Away & Importance Of Being Idle are a bit boring live now. I can understand why they're in, but I think it'd be a perfect chance to air some songs that we haven't heard in a long while.
- Don't Look Back In Anger needs to be Semi-Acoustic again, not quite got the oomph of the old days with the Birds playing it.
Anyway, thanks for reading if you've got this far, just wanted to get a few things out there. I expect to be slagged off, and maybe a lot of these concerns will be ironed out when they've been going for a while. We'll see!

I think everything you've said is reasonable, except for the part about Noel's voice. F People were slagging Noel's voice off for the first two gigs--now those are supposed to be his strong performances? He sounds almost exactly the same to me. If you look hard enough, you can find deterioration in anyone's voice from night to night (look his couldn't hit that falsetto quite as well as he did last night!). Even judged in this harsh context, Noel's voice is remarkably consistent. Also, TIOBI is still awesome live. NEEDS to be on the setlist.

That's Mike Rowe and he is awesome.

Mike Rowe is fantastic. And he was part of Oasis for nearly 10 years, so I think his presence is pretty appropriate.

The keyboard player is my favourite part of the live act (bar Noel obviously). My biggest problem is that the new songs bar TGR and FT really seem to plod along live and not seem to go anywhere which is disappointing because I think the album is really good.

Mike Rowe is amazing, I have no idea how you can slag him off. I was delighted when I saw that he was part of the High Flying Birds, always wondered what happened to him. Watch his performance on MTV Unplugged also, which is mega. Infinity times better than Jay Darlington, who seemed to only play synth strings and was just really boring.

I just watched the live performance of Record Machine from yesterday's BBC show. Wow, it's so flat, it's disappointing. The guitar solo is poor and lacks punch. It needs Gem.
And why isn't Noel belting these out. Someone in another thread said that we need Noel's 2000 vocals, and that person is right. Noel has it in him, but he's just not delivering at the moment.....
Average at best. Oasis took it to the next level sonically. Come on Noel, sort out the band.

Talk Tonight needs to stay as far as I'm concerned. Yes he's played it lots when he's done acoustic gigs but it got dropped from Oasis sets when Noel's solo slot got dropped and never got the full band treatment aside from that brilliant radio 1 session 11 years ago. I saw Oasis 12 times and never saw it and love how it sounds now - it was also one of the best sing alongs in Manchester last week. Like it or not, Idle and Half the World are two of the most famous Noel sung Oasis tunes. The set lists aren't just for the die hard fans and as much as you might to hear something like Angel Child or Going Nowhere, they ain't going to get played.

RM is one of my favorites live and I liked Noel's vocals yesterday.

I've watched it and listened to the radio rip on proper speakers - the radio one's much better and both will be eclipsed by the actual sound st the gigs by 1000%

I don't like how it looks, and it's obviously deliberate. Oasis always just looked fucking cool, proper band, not just attitude, clothes, haircuts, the lot. HFBs look like they are - sheryl crow's band. It's as if the whole thing is aimed at a thirty year old american audience. although i though it funny the drummer was made to wear a hat for the beeb show - do they read this board (where someone mentioned his comb-over) or was it one of weller's comments as referenced by noel in the interview?

Noel sounded great, band sounded good, especially BG vocals
the guitarist lacks punch though. I'm not feeling the solos...

Watched a few youtube clips, quite tasty. Mike Rowe jams. Looks kinda geeky/froggy, but has quality work put in. The drummer, fuck me, isnt all that. I feel like his drumming needs a kick or he needs to do the white line cause somethings missing. Plus he looks super creep-O. I think Noels voice sounds good. Hopefully his voice will be great when I see him in two weeks at the UCLA gigs.

I too disagree with NL4E, I actually think record machine is good live. This will all be irrelevant when they get it their stride anyway. Anyone got an FM radio rip then?

nl4e off the mark as he is 95% of the time. oasis is over my friend. if you want to see them live invest in the live dvds.
and yeah oasis live took it to the next level sonically, would those be the days when you couldn't hear the rhythm guitar and bass whatsoever. or perhaps the dig out your soul tour where liam's vocals could be cringeworthy at times? take it for what it is, one the greatest songwriters of our time (and arguably all time) delivering the hits (old and new) and album cuts/bsides that are pretty fuckin' amazing.
his voice sounds fine, if anything his "rough start" could be attributed to...oh i dunno a 44 yr old man who had racked up a 7k bar tab a few nights ago. pull it together nl4e, i mean a lot of your posts are fuckin' unbearable...but god damn this one is downright ridiculous.

agree with most of what you said. About his voice "deteriorating" though, i don't think it has much to with the fact that he's singing a lot more now than he did with Oasis, as much as it has to do with the fact that he's not having long breaks in between each song. If you think about it, he had a good 20-25 minute break between each song he sang with Oasis, here it's all him, nonstop.

Just went through a few more of the songs. Perhaps I jumped to a conclusion
I'm very pleased with DLBIA, TT, BA, SOTWB
Still disappointed with RM, though. He needs to give it the Step Out 2000 treatment.....
Put the Liam vocal debate aside, all these songs would still sound a thousand times better with Oasis as the band providing the music behind Noel's vocals......
