I've been waiting for this thread for awhile, so why not do a top 5... 1) I Can See A Liar- sitting by the fire of course. Where else would he be? 2) Take Me Away - this is just a frightening set of lyrics made worse because you can hear them so clearly and Noel sings them like they mean the world to him "I'd like to be under the sea....probably need a phone!" is only the worst of a bad bunch 3) Magic Pie- "I dig his friends/I dig his shoes" I guess when you're that high, everything just seems so awesome about the people you are hanging out with. 4) Little By Little- "My God woke up on the wrong side of his bed?" FOr awhile I assumed he said "my dog"-which would make far, far more sense. More evidence that Noel is such an awesome songwriter that his tunes can still kick ass with awful lyrics. 5) D'you Know What I Mean- "A Fool on the Hill and I Feel Fine". The height of Noel's Beatle blinkered 'this will do for now because I want to do another line of coke' laziness. Again, stellar tune though...

"How does it feel like to let forever be"
Oh, and pretty much the whole of Magic Pie

"My God woke up on the wrong side of his bed" is a brilliant lyric you nause. Well, if you can explain to me why that lyric is brilliant, or even why that lyric is not dumb fucking nonsense, I will reconsider. I can already guess what your answer will be: ("Cos it just is, you fookin nause")

I have to say... Magic Pie has excellent lyrics.

It is complete crap I agree. Still think the opening lines of each verse are worse though.

I'm a man of choice in an old Rolls Royce and I'm howlin' at the moon Is my happening too deafening for you?
The Be Here Now B-sides were just about the nadir in terms of Noel's songwriting, with the honourable exception of Going Nowhere.

The song is about feeling like the world is out to get you and your life is falling apart (wheels of you life have slowly fallen off). The speaker feels God has it in for him and doesn't know why (maybe he just woke up on the wrong side of the bed). (I don't actually think it's a good lyric. But is isn't complete nonsense like some others.)

Oh...and fucking "Round Are Way". Twee nonsense. Or maybe its just because the arrangement is so gay.

'cause that could explain a lot And there is nothing really wrong with the "we the people" line either. Hardly Noels worst lyric. It's not amazing but it isn't THAT bad

Not many are.

Some people hate the chorus to Record Machine. I happen to like it. tomlives loves Round Are Way because it reminds him of growing up and playing football. As a Canadian who only played hockey and baseball, I just find it to be overly twee nonsense. All of those opinions are reasonable enough. And I'm tempted to tell you to fuck right off about me being so thick about the lyrics to Little By Little that English must not be my native tongue. But I won't.

This thread has turned out to making me laugh very hard. I've been thorougly entertained.
As for Little by Little: His God woke up on the wrong side of the bed, meaning - as already been pointed out - that God is not happy with Noel. And Noel is complaining about how bad things are, and how the wheels have fallen off as he fades like the star he wished to be. But, like most Noel songs, he finds positive meaning later, knowing that he has to give everything and try his best regardless.....Somber verses, euphoric chorus both lyrically and sonically.
Also, "We the people" is how the US Constitution begins. I doubt this was a coincidence. As GDForever said, it's not bad but it's not amazing either.
I love LBL, what a top tune.
Take Me Away is a song I really like, but you're right about the phone line - and how you expressed your thought about that made me laugh.
And whoever suggested Bonehead's Bankholiday is off his head. Top little tune that. Nothing cringe worthy about it. It's not a serious song, and that has to be remembered.

Reminds me of being in Secondary School and on Saturdays a load of us going up the green with a crate kickin the footy around all day. Top top tune. And the LBL lyric has been explained. It's a decent lyric. I'm not some Noel apologist either, there's plenty of lyrics I don't like. "She put an apple in my eye" isn't a bad one either - people just don't seem to be familiar with English idioms.

A native English speaker that can't understand : "But my God woke up on the wrong side of his bed" ? That's probably the most simplistic lyric posted in this thread so far...

People who don't like Bonehead's Bank Holiday because of the lyrics are very questionable humans.

Look, if we get enough of us together, we can petition Noel to rewrite the phone line in Take Me Away. He's got some odd lyrics thrown into his songs, some are awkward at times, I admit, but over all, the man's a damn genius. It's the simplicity of the lyrics that make him brilliant. Anyone of us can sit there and put rhymes together, but to put it all in a song and sell it to millions, that's why he flies on private jets.

But YOU said putting dog there made more sense than god. Putting dog there makes zero sense. The original line makes sense you just don't like it. Tomlives is entitled to his opinion to prefer nonsense. As are you. But having your life falling apart because you DOG woke up on the bed is utter nonsense. If you prefer it...go for it. But all I really mean is that that you say it should have been dog because it made more sense does make it sound like you only have a passing sense of English colloquialism such a what it means "to wake up on the wrong side of the bed." I wasn't trying to insult you. Any chance you are French Canadian
