Does an Xfactor appearance do that much to the sales in the UK? I read a title about Coldplay having a boost because of that.

I don't think it's that they appeared on X Factor per se, but the quality of the performance to such an audience (as was perceived anyway)

Noel is at #15 of Year To Date Best selling albums of 2011 with 477,800 albums sold. His nearest album to beat is Take That's Progress which is 2k ahead. Noel will finish at #14 best selling album by Sunday. Not bad for a 44 year old rock n roll star.

Does an Xfactor appearance do that much to the sales in the UK? I read a title about Coldplay having a boost because of that. Apparently it's massive. Being one who lives in the UK and is in a family that seems to watch it every saturday... I can say it is huge. X Factor has the biggest viewing figures and it bosses every other show, seems to be one for the young viewers and I reckon had Noel even been a judge or made such an appearance on it, he would run riot in the charts. Think it was for the best Noel stayed well away from it though, I've seen Paul McCartney on it and it really does damage your credibility. Coldplay seemed to have been kissing the shows arse... slagged it off few weeks before then jumped on it to perform in the final (which was actually quite a spectacle). Would of been great to see Noel as a judge for one show in Manchester as he suggested though... it would make great viewing for one show, they would be begging him to stay on

I told myself I'd stop caring once he's out of the top 20...
That was like 8 weeks ago that I said that.
It's freaking huge.

This album will get to 2X platinum like SOTSOG and DOYS, but it will not outsold them.

This album will get to 2X platinum like SOTSOG and DOYS, but it will not outsold them. I think you might be in for a surprise there. I actually would have guessed the same as you if you had asked me a couple months ago. This is an impressive chart performance...even if it had been an Oasis album. 12 consecutive weeks in the top 20? It's amazing! I think it will definitely outsell DOYS. From what I understand DOYS was certified double platinum but actually fell off the charts 20-40K shy of 600K albums sold. I think that Noel has every chance of beating that. Does anyone actually know what the final sales of SOTSOG were? If you are looking at the charts HFB has actually been far more consistent than either of those albums. SOTSOG spent only it's first 6 weeks in the top 20. Noel has already doubled that. Although album sales are presumably much less than they were 12 years ago and that might mean Noel might not beat it in terms of sales. I don't know. DOYS only spent 5 weeks in the the top 20 and dropped out of the top 40 in 14 weeks. And in terms of album sales...Noel has outsold DOYS week-on-week every week except the first week. If you remove that first week...Noel has sold ~80K more than DOYS did in weeks 2-12. Plus Noel is staying pretty solid. He's top 10 on all the online retailers right now. Not saying he'll get back into the top 10 by week end because his strongest sales will be now...but he's doing pretty well.

I remember DOYS had sold 610,000 copies by mid 2010. I remember someone posting it on ukmix. So I'm sure it's around 625,000 since then or a bit lower.
As far as SOTSOG, last time I heard something whether it was ukmix or some place else, it was around 800,000 copies.
I'm surprised how good Noel's HFB has done. Incredible. 500,000 + sales and still in the top 20. I think when it's all said and done it might surpass DOYS and be around 650,000.

You're right about DOYS. Took a peek at UK mix. Last # was 622K as of March 2010
Last SOTSOG sales I can find were 685 but that was 5 years ago. But I doubt it's sold 120K since then. the album was already 6 years old at that point.
I'm sure it'll be announced if Noel officially passes sales for any Oasis albums.

From Music Week this week.
"Quietly doing the business, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds rallies 18-15 on its 12th straight week in the Top 20. The album sold 13,255 copies last week to push its cumulative tally past the half a million mark. With 505,675 copies sold to date, the album - Noel Gallagher's first solo set - has sold three times as many copies as Different Gear, Still Speeding, the first album by his brother Liam and the rest of his former Oasis bandmates. Different Gear...spent only three weeks in the Top 20, and has sold just 166,609 copies in 45 weeks."
