... is very weird! Just watched his performance at Skavlan. He really looks like he doesn't know how to behave and where to look at I think the very first gig might be a bit of a weird experience but I hope he'll get used to it fast enough! Think it's mostely nerves though, as he was doing perfectly fine when he was fronting Oasis on DLBIA etc?!

Stick a cardboard cut out of Noel in the centre and he can just stand on the left... job done.
In all seriousness though he'll soon get used to it.

I think TV is a bit weird to film TV anyways I've heard
And I don't envy him appearing on TV before fronting a gig

The Italian TV one was worse. He was sweating, crouching down, shifting his eyes, looking very uncomfortable...

It doesn't help that he has that stupid looking mic. stand height because of his bad back.

ANyone got any footage of the performance? THIS. I haven't watched any of them. But I remember Noel doing a performance with Oasis for some TOTP special and also singing Falling Down for some Japanese tv show and it seemed fine.

nvm... i found this
He sounds good, struggles a bit with the falsettos(where are all the morons talking about Liam not being able to pull those off?). All in all, i thought he did a good job with the vocals, very good actually. As for his stage presence... that's a whole other topic of conversation. He looks like he did when he was "the guitarist in Oasis", he has to develop some type of frontman demeanor. It's not like he ever said he'd be a great frontman either way, plus, when we compare him to Liam(widely regarded as one of the best ever), then the difference is more notorious.

He definitely has a confused type of look about him in the videos I've seen

Yeah, it'll take some getting used too. To be fair though, the whole band look awkward. Yer man on electric keeps smiling away to himself, LOL.
It looks and sounds exactly what it is... and Noel said it himself. Out of his comfort zone.

It's just really really weird cause though he was never a commanding front man when he sung Oasis songs, he always looked self-assured.
Here he doesn't have any "moves" or swagger, but he stands there confidently and belts it out. Noel says that he hopes people don't expect any kind of theatrics. I'm pretty sure they don't. All he has to do is stand there and not look sheepish or embarrassed and it will be great.

yeah... i think that's the best way to describe it. lack of confidence. And you can see it in many aspects of this whole solo project. Like naming "himself" High Flying Birds, instead of just going by his own name. Come on, you're a fucking rock god dude, why are you hesitating?

I've saw that lack of confidence before in the oasis gigs, but i can't really understand why? i mean, like the man who posted before me said, he's a fucking rockn roll god.

He's not an extrovert by nature.
He once said he was an introvert made an extrovert by circumstance. I think he doesn't really like being the center of attention.

part of the awkwardness for him is probably being the 'frontman',
another part of it is probably not having the familiar bandmates named andy, gem, chris and jay surrounding him.

He should just have some random dancer prancing around the stage throughout his gigs. "Ladies and gentlemen, the golden drifter."

To be fair though, the whole band look awkward. Yeah it's a very awkward looking band ! Noel is capable of being a perfectly fine and confident frontman. He did it before: Only difference (except for the band, but that shouldn't matter that much) is he's standing in the middle now in stead of on the left. If he really feels more comfortable there, I wouldn't bother him standing on the left for this gigs

I think part of it is that we're also not used to seeing Noel in this role. After 20 years of seeing Noel on the side of Liam, it's hard to get used to visually.
Give it time: both Noel and us fans will get used to it.

Is it me or Noel become more shy onstage since 2005? Til HC tour he looked more confident singing live.

Seen from a fans view it's doesn't matter where the fuck he's standing, we don't need to "get used to it", what is this shit? I agree. It isn't a problem with OUR perception. Noel looks undeniably awkward. It is a problem in Noel's head...a problem HIM not feeling comfortable with his place in relation to the band. As Oasis fans we are all used to Noel fronting a song. He did it regularly in Oasis. Despite the slight change in placement compared to the rest of the band. We regularly Noel without Liam on stage Besides, rarely do videos show the whole band anyways. Usually they close up on the singer for most of it with cutaways to the rest of the band. So the actually visual difference of having Noel in the center for the time that the camera is on him compared to the camera being closed up on him on the side is negligible from a viewers standpoint. The problem is in Noel's head. He needs to sort it out. But I doubt a few TV appearances where the band isn't even playing is going to help. It's probably a horrible experience for him. Chances are the TV audiences are fairly ambivalent or oblivious. I think that Noel will begin to relax a lot in general once he has had a few shows in front of an enthusistic audience.
