Just Imagine, 2015 and we've got new songs like shout it out loud, gas panic, go let it out, hindu times, little by little, where did it all go wrong, the distortion rocknroll tunes, this forum would go nuts! nuts everywhere! Imagine yourselves in year 2000 trying to accept, after DM WTSMG and BHN that "The Mexican" is a song worth of noel gallagher. Impossible, just impossible. I second that, right stuff would be sacrified on be here now album Imagine step out and little by little on chasing-yesterday, would be the bollocks We pretend to raise the bar cause noel is capable to make even better songs that the new ones estoy con vos nahuel, se sube la vara de las nuevas canciones xq se deben comparan con lo mejor del pasado, y se lo pedimos a noel xq el es capaz de lograrlo..

3 shit tracks (to me) on the record is too much, i gotta give you that, especially when Noel says he's got tons of great songs, which i'm doubting.
He's digging into his back catalogue all the time, and while many artists do that, it makes no sense for Lock all the Doors for instance, which doesn't quite belong here. we'll see about about freaky teeth and Revolution song, which are Oasis songs as well.
his fillers used to be much much better, but i guess he's learned his lesson and dont waste his good songs anymore.
For a 47 songwriter that has written so many good songs, it's still a very good record though.i'm glad he's still making music.

This album just proves he can be any songwriter he fucking wants to be... The fact is he doesn't have to write songs like Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall, etc. He's already accomplished that shit. Move on and appreciate what's in front of you. Agreed. Let the 90's be the 90's . Let's move on. In my book Noel's solo Songs will stand the test of time. (at least for me!) Nowadays it's harder to be successfull with a great, well written, melodic album than a shit disco -pop - dance record. That's the reason we are all here gathered in this forum: We'll see things they'll never see!

What some of you need to realise is that sometimes, our tastes just change. Ever since I've been on here there've been people who've said nothing but point out every. single. thing. that Noel does as a mistake of gigantic proportions. It's not him, man. You're just not a fan anymore. Let go of all the negative energy.

This thread, and UGHFs argument can be deconstructed quite simply:
Noel Gallagher is no longer in Oasis.
He's not trying to write massive stadium rock tunes because he did that quite a lot in Oasis and now he wants to have a new creative identity with The High Flying Birds - which should be massively exciting if you're a fan of Noel or music. Ok, The Mexican is one if the weaker outputs of the project but who wouldn't take it over the weak points of Oasis post-2000? Of course we'd all like to have the best songs of SOTSOG on Chasing Yesterday instead but you can't just cherry pick the past whilst damning the present completely, either you take Chasing Yesterday or Heathen Chemistry. Personally I'd rather listen to The Mexican 12 times in a row than Heathen Chemistry but that's just me. The point is, this is something new for Noel - it's not Definitely Maybe or WTSMG but it's not a cat or a lampshade either, you shouldn't try to define it by what it isn't but by what it is...and what it is is Noel's best and most imaginative album in 20 years.

Move on and appreciate what's in front of you. Yeah ,that's it. He doesn't write them because he doesn't want to. I'm pretty sure he prefers to write trash like The Mexican or easy jams like The Right Stuff. He doesn't write them because he can't,he won't spank you if you say it out loud. Oh the fanboys....

I think UGHF has just simply lost it. The vibe I'm getting here is that anything Oasis did after 1999 was a waste of time (seriously, read some of the comments!) I'm not the one losing it. UGHF - Defender of the Oasis Faith.

We are just not on the same page. This is not even an argument for me. Chasing Yesterday beats Heathen Chemistry silly with a sack of pennies and pisses in its mouth for good measure. Same for SOTSOG, although it shows it a bit more respect. Agree to disagree. Heading to bed. Hope you go to bed humming Force of Nature or I Can See A Liar! Nanananana Nanana naa na naaaaaa I clicked on the video because I had never seen that performance. There is a reason I hadnt heard that song in over ten years. Its arguably the worst album track Noel has ever released.

Now before you have a pop...hear me out. Noel Gallagher is an outstanding songwriter...probably my favourite of all time, and I think this album will be brilliant. BUT...... ....what is one of the qualities that every good songwriter/song has? ....I'd like to say... ...the ability to craft songs that become part of the social fabric. Now Noel has done this with Wonderwall, DLBIA, Live Forever, Cigs and Alcohol. When was his last song of such a standard? Probably Stop Crying Your Heart Out me thinks... He has become more self indulgent i think... I'm just rambling here...but from the songs I've heard so far...(which are TOP) I'm still waiting for him to a do Paul McCartney and write seriously epic songs that the public love... Mull Of Kintyre Band On The Run... I think this is the challenge for Noel... Are you on drugs. Can I have some? From what I ve heard so far this is the best album he's written in years. There could be a hell of a lot of rose tinted glasses going on here. As for macca his records stand alone in success but he did record a lot of rubbish during the 80s. Half of press to play and most of off the ground is crap. ( sorry but it's said even by himself) biker like an icon. Noel's not in mccartneys class but come on he's lost nothing. If anything he's got a lot of it back.

Noel cannot keep on trying to do the same, and he did tried that, I would even say that's exactly what has been the problem. With his solo project I really feel he has moved on, especially with CY.

I'd compare the right stuff with gas panic, you know we can't go back with hindu times, the dying of the light with SCYHO, ballad of the mighty with who feels love... and im missin roll it over, go let it out, full on... Sorry, you lost me when you suggested Who Feels Love is better than Ballad of the Mighty I. Seriously now, come on. And your appraisal of Force of Nature, don't get me started. Everyone hated it as soon as it came out. And Go Let It Out is just a weak rehash of Fade In-Out. And The Hindu Times is just boring, totally sucks compared to the demo. Man, you're just digging a hole for yourself here! Force Of Nature has always been complete shit. It was the first time I ever though to myself "Wow, Noel is really finished as a songwriter". I couldn't believe it was included on a proper Oasis album. It was just soooooo fucking dad-rock. Truly abysmal. Go Let It Out and Hindu Times, on the other hand, are both A-level Oasis songs. The only category higher is A+ and that is reserved for the Live Forever, Supersonic, Champagne Supernova, Don't Look Back In Anger tier.

I got into Oasis in 2007 and I just never got into Go Let ItOut - I heard it first on Stop The Clocks, so maybe my judgement is clouded by other great songs on that. And I'd heard the Hindu Times demo while browsing Oasis videos in youtube, and that was well before the album version and I thought it was far superior

How could Noel have lost the magic as a songwriter when everything on Chasing Yesterday sounds magical? :3

I get it, Noel changed the style, a style that has a different "magic", which is good complementing a musical career, but my thesis is that this new style has a lower roof and is less likely to conceive all-time classics. The 2 most regarded songs in CY by this forum are Riverman (1) and The Dying of the Light (2), which are not far from the typical noel's acoustic ballad in the core, regardless of the different production and approach we've got in this particular album. Lock all the doors is close (4th), and we know it's mainly for the chorus, and we know when was that chorus written... You know we can't go back is regarded as BHNish, and is there in the top of the ranking (5th), acording to the poll in this forum. The rests of the songs, the "new style" ones, are in the bottom.
The only "new style" track that ranked well above (3rd) is The Right Stuff, which i love. The closest Oasis song in concept in The Cage in HC. Bassy, groovy...

Paul was Noels age in 1990, Noel is undeniably writing songs of a way higher caliber than Paul was at 47/8. I think his songwriting has improved drastically since the early 00's

You think I won't accept anything that's not oasis because you deleted the "Dude, I reviewed CY in an excellent way, as you can see in the reviews thread." in the quote. It's ok, I enjoy SOTSOG and HC even more than CY. Because my subjective preferences lean towards distortion, air, spice, singalong, size, lead guitar, strenght, bravado, etc. To summar, everything that made oasis oasis. And i don't quite see it in NGHFBs thaaat much. But I like it anyway. It's a matter of personal preferences. Oasisesque preferences. The appeal of Heathen Chemistry is that it is straightforward no nonsense tunes. But I don't know, there's someone about that period of Noel's writing that just lacks bite for me - and that includes the upcoming Revolution Song. There is something inexplicable but gaping missing from them and I can't put my finger on it. And I do think Liam's vocals cover up the inadequacies of many of his tunes from that era. Heck, I think Liam singing Force of Nature may even warrant it as half decent.... just maybe! But ever since 2005, I think Noel has been in a rich vein of form, accepting of course that he's never going to write another Live Forever (because that top form of songwriting is rare in music history). Has he written any truly bad tunes? Of course he has his weaker ones, but I'm struggling to think of one that is genuinely just poor. I really, really hate Mucky Fingers.

That tune, Guess God Thinks I'm Abel, Love Like A Bomb, Importance of Being Idle and Part of the Queue are he things I love about Don't Believe The Truth. Liam's lighter melodic tunes balance out the more serious, moody Noel numbers on that perfectly.

Flowers in the Dirt (1989) was way better than Catching Yesterday. It's "chasing", not "catching". Chasing Fucking Yesterday... By the way, are you the same Robohump arsehole who behaved like a total prick before and during the leak of NGHFB back in 2011? Oh yes, I do remember you... and you can fuck off Cheers!

Please people stop comparing Noel with Paul McCartney, it makes you look like ignorant idiots to people who are not delusional Noel fanboys. Our Noel is a VERY GOOD songwriter, but McCartney is on another level. As a melody writer he has no equal. Of course Flowers in the dirt is better than Chasing Yesterday as is Flaming Pie and Chaos And Creation In The Backyard. Even at his recent albums McCartney has much more imaginative and interesting material than noel.
