On amazon it says it's #34 on the MP3 charts and #1 on the Rock MP3 tracks, not bad

Surely it's Fight/Fall? in line with the boxing theme? On the rope? I thought it was going to be a boxing theme from the title too. On the ropes. But it seems to actually refer to hanging on a rope in a precarious place. Hence there is no boxing theme. I think smile/fog makes way more sense. Ok I conceed with the boxing theme thing. Alone On The Rope probably relates to the imagery of being on a tight rope - hence the "Don't Look Down" line. And after like 10 closer listens I still don't hear smile but I will go with fog. Maybe, as someone else mentioned, it's actually 'fire' he says in that 1st line

Alone on the rope is really nice, the only thing that I am not happy with is that it reminds me a lot of Kula Shaker´s Hollow man... it is just small part of the song, but almost the same... compare the line "If you try as hard as you can..."at 4:00 and the chorus of Alone on the rope ... anyway, great song. I'm probably alone in saying this but I think Kula Shaker are a fucking great band. You are not alone. I love them, as well...even shelled out $$$$ for the remastered K boxed set a couple weeks ago. Great 1990s Britpop album.

This is immediately after Massive Attack - Teardrop on my extremely sparse iTunes account. Playing them back to back is an experience

Fire/fog probably makes the most sense in terms of imagery, but fall might fit the tightrope theme better, so I'm still undecided.

For my two cents, I absolutely love What A Life. I think every song he has released so far (apart from the mind numbingly dull Good Rebel) have been top notch.

With regards to the marketing/promo of NGHFB's. Everyone gets TDOYAM, USA got IIHAG, Japan got IPYE and Blighty's got WAL & AOTR. Simples!
Different marketing campaign, but at least with 'tinternet us hard core fans get EVERYTHING. That's my thinking anyway. We'll have to get Jeffslate to ask all he can about the track and the unannounced release etc.

This song is for me now better than everything NG done on the solo project. Even better when you are in a complicated love story far away from your girlfriend.

I understand why he wouldn't want to put this on the album, but it is really beautiful. I know a couple others said it before, but this reminds me a lot of Shout It Out Loud.
Given what Noel said in that video that was released the day before this gem went up on Amazon, I bet he's using this song to generate hype before the release rather than leaking the album. Since he's in singular control of the record label, maybe this is his strategy to keep us interested leading up to it. It's working, Noel. More excited for the album than ever.

This is the kind of song I was expecting to hear. I wish the whole album was this deep. Good song.

I'd love to hear a remix of this. Four Tet or something. Not that that'd ever happen.

I think this tune would be a fantastic album closer y'know? It has a great calm melody, really digging it... nothing against STC, I justthink the album could have 11 songs...

really liking this tune, the melody is killer. It's amazing how many beautiful melodies Noel can come up with, it's great to play acoustically
