Hello guys,
Big Oasis fan, I've actually been a non-member lurker of this forum for quite a while. I've been wanting to make an account to check out the Sound and Vision sub-board, and now that I have - I'm looking forward to browsing that.
I thought you'd be interested to know I heard Noel's album in full Friday afternoon, played through from start to finish, just once. I was actually one of the lucky ones who heard the six-track promo too, I was going to create an account and a thread on that until I saw Mr. Jeff Slate beat me to it.
Feel free to fire questions at me if you have any? Though it'll be sketchy as - like I said - I've only heard it once all the way through.
Thanks.
- Dimitri

what was your favourite song that hasn't already been released to the public? Guitar solos? Differences in RM and STC from the demo versions? Any lyrics that you can remember? what is the vibe/style of the unheard songs? Thanks.

How are the tracks 7-9 compared to the rest, quality and sound wise?

1. From my first listen, a huge favourite would be "Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks". Really cool song, that I can't really imagine Oasis doing (maybe on Dig Out Your Soul). But I think "Everybody's on the Run" trumps that, because it's so massive, and like most of you, have been waiting to hear it in full for a very long time.
2. From memory, there are no blistering Oasis-esque guitar solos, though there's one in in the aforementioned SBAJF.
3. Let me say this: Record Machine is great. It starts with a cool intro, sound effects, it sounds like children playing or something, it's a bit spooky actually. There are no real major differences musically, but Noel's vocals are THICK AND LAYERED, very big chorus, as you know, it does sort of explode. Really great. I guess STC isn't as dull, and it sounds a bit faster and more atmospheric. Honestly don't think there are any lyrical changes at all in these two, if there are, they are small.
4. Regarding the "style", it's very much an album - if that makes sense. It's not some tenuously linked "collection" of songs, it works from beginning to end. I'd say sort of mystical and gloomy with big bangs of harmony. I know that's not a great description at all, but I'm just thinking through my fingers here.
5. Dream On is great, it's got some great guitars on it, it reminds me of a mix of TDOYAM and EOTR actually, which is a bit weird. Cool chorus, I remember thinking "this should have been the first single".
Hope that helps.
By the way, I was blown away by the album. It's everything I wanted it to be as a fan, I can't wait to hear A Simple Game of Genius (if you haven't heard of this it's going to be a bonus track for digital downloads only) and some new b-sides.
Cheers.
Edit:
STC ends with a light echo of the first track ETOR.
Also, I'd like to change what I said about it being "gloomy and atmospheric". I'd say it starts off folky and jaunty then after track 5 mellows down and goes a little darker (and gloomy and atmospheric).
I probably prefer the second half of the album as a whole.

I'm not comfortable in writing an accurate track-by-track review as I don't think I'd do it justice, since it was a good 2 days ago that I heard it.
I'll say that STC and TDOYAM are my least favourites on the album, but that's not to say I don't like them. I just got a little tired of of TDOYAM pretty fast, and while STC is good, I can see why it's an album closer. A fitting end.

Hi gmajor7,
I need to be careful, as I don't want to jeopardize my position in any way, but I'll go as far to say it was an office in central London, and I wasn't the only person there.
I hope you can appreciate why I can't elaborate too much.
It's pretty much part of my job to preview albums before they are released.

Sorry to doubt you but as you can imagine we get alot of frauds on here Will you be writing an official preview? Also can you tell us more about The Wrong Beach? Cheers

Is the ending the same on STC as the demo?

SOTWB - going back to the "gloominess" I was describing earlier, this epitomizes it. It's Noel pouring his heart out on a song, think Idler's Dream with guitars and drums, think melancholy.

Is the ending the same on STC as the demo? *Puts STC demo on* Edit: Yes, definitely. That almost makes the song, but I'm sure the album version goes on quite a bit longer than the demo one. Think it differs slightly to, but very similar.

Yeah, what's Broken Arrow like? I read somewhere that it's similar to IIHAG in its Wonderwall-esque feel...any truth to that?

It's worth noting that AKA...Broken Arrow is nothing, and I do mean nothing like AKA...What A Life!
I fully expected it to be a sort of companion piece or share something. But they may as well be polar opposites. Like comparing Rock N Roll Star to Sad Song.

Alright mate, can you confirm what song this is?:
Is it The Wrong Beach? I'm pretty sure it's not what it claims to be in the video title.

There's another part here if you're interested too: Incase you don't know, people got the title for that snippet because of this song: Which features the lyric, but I always thought they were different songs because they're completely different chord progressions!

Ha, that's awesome.
You guys are sure persevering. That guitar sounds great. Going to listen to this through now.
Thanks (can't believe I missed this after hearing EOTR/IIHAG etc).
I can see why people may think that's ASGOG because of the drums, but I'd venture a completely basless guess as that instrumental being "I'd Pick You Every Time" (upcoming b-side to 'If I Had A Gun').
But who knows!

Are the lyrics to EOTR the same as the soundcheck version?

Are the lyrics to EOTR the same as the soundcheck version? Don't re-call any lyrical differences. If there are, they are nothing beyond what the difference was with the final version of IIHAG.

EOTR has drums? Talk about it! And the songs, there are other songs with more rock?
