Ok here's the tracklisting which i think is great:
Disc 1 1."Gardening at Night" 2."Radio Free Europe" 3."Talk About the Passion" 4."Sitting Still" 5."So. Central Rain" 6."(Don't Go Back To) Rockville" 7."Driver 8" 8."Life and How to Live It" 9."Begin the Begin" 10."Fall on Me" 11."Finest Worksong" 12."It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" 13."The One I Love" 14."Stand" 15."Pop Song 89" 16."Get Up" 17."Orange Crush" 18."Losing My Religion" 19."Country Feedback" 20."Shiny Happy People" Disc 2 21."The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite" 22."Everybody Hurts" 23."Man on the Moon" 24."Nightswimming" 25."What's the Frequency, Kenneth?" 26."New Test Leper" 27."Electrolite" 28."At My Most Beautiful" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 29."The Great Beyond" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 30."Imitation of Life" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 31."Bad Day" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 32."Leaving New York" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 33."Living Well Is the Best Revenge" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 34."Supernatural Superserious" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 35."Überlin" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 36."Oh My Heart" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 37."Alligator_Aviator_Autopilot_Antimatter" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 38."A Month of Saturdays" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 39."We All Go Back to Where We Belong" (Buck, Mills, Stipe) 40."Hallelujah" (Buck, Mills, Stipe)
I think it'd take 3 cds to get all their greatest hits but this si definitely good enough, also i think new tracks for a greatest hits is just a thank you to the fans which isn't a bad thing,i think the 3 new songs will be amazing,2 of them were recorded during collapse into now.
Also we all go back to where we belong is being released as their very last single next month on the 18th october.

...and no Find The River (my personal REM favourite), really surprised to see The Sidewinder instead of that or Drive...still, 40 tracks in chronological order seem like a nice Best Of. Considering they couldn't just put in all the songs on Automatic, it's the best one could hope for and a good way to start getting into REM, I guess...

The tracklisting is great,if they'd have put the 6 singles from automatic on their then people would start moaning saying 6 songs from 1 album what about??> etc ... you really cant win, same as time flies people were moaning about that.
Take things for what they are & become.
I love bang & blame & strange currencies & man sized wreath etc ... they should've made a boxset with the whole lot .... but then again people would moan saying it cost too much??
This compilation is the last proper release from R.E.M. and them tracks are classics,i'd prefer thsi to get cancelled though & for them to make another album, but i guess it's life.

I would of personally had Tongue on there, but no complaints really. It looks like the perfect set for the newcomer/casual fan of the band. I think songs like Drive are more for the hardcore fans - not mainstream tunes but fantastic nonetheless. But hey, just looking at that tracklisting, and I cannot say there is one bad song there. Pure dead brilliance.

Being a lifelong fan, I'm a bit disappointed by the tracklisting due to the fact that I already have their I.R.S. "best of" and Warner Bros. "greatest" (released in 2003) CDs, so there are a lot of duplicate tracks. I just want all the early WB titles to get remastered - Green, OOT, A4TP, Monster, NAIH-F, as well as their Dead Letter Office/Chronic Town CD. I'm sure Document will get the remastered treatment next year, seeing whereas it's next in line for I.R.S.

well my thing is 'drive' was the LEAD-OFF single from automatic for the people.... to me, leaving that one off is the same thing as if they were to leave off 'go let it out' or 'the hindu times' from time flies.

"Can't Get There From Here' was also the leadoff single from FOTR and that's missing too. "Superman" was the second single from LRP and there's another glaring omission.
I have no idea why "Monster" is only represented by one song. It sold 4 million copies in the USA and had several songs that received lots of airplay - Bang And Blame, Star 69, Strange Currencies, Crush With Eyeliner. That album has sort of become R.E.M.'s "Be Here Now" of their catalogue.

AAAA isn't that bad. Anyone think a reunion for a couple of gigs could happen somewhere down the line, with Bill Berry involved? I wish they could of done a farewell tour.

There is a chance .. well i hope,i think if the truth's known it's down to buck why they ended, remember reading interview when CIN came out he was saying about the charts etc ... how shti they are,in that kinda way,he seemed pissed off by it all,why make great music when there's a lot of deaf people about?
for me apart from oasis & the beatles r.e.m. have always been there in my top 3,always will be.I'm glad they've been re releasing 25th anniversary issues of them IRS albums, document will be out next june i predict.

^ Yeah it's a class song, just pissed off it's only available in the U.S. why would the record company do that, knowing they have fans worldwide? Definitely buying the album though.
