Apparently Don't Go Away was nicked from this? Great song though It's pretty obvious he nicked the dont go away, forever and a day bit, but only lyrics, the melody is different (and Noel's better). It's still pretty obvious there

Real People claim to have written the Columbia verses with Liam writing on the chorus. I've never heard Liam comment on this but I've always assumed that to be true, dunno about any other songs on DM though. They have a credit on Rockin Chair too.

I don't believe this, either the guitarist or the guy who told you the story are bullshittin'.
I do recall when Noel did the MTV Unplugged gig (I think) he said before a song somethin' like "right gonna play one I wrote myself now" or somethin' like that but there was no covers played at the gig?

Nonsense.
Any bets on what the next absurd made up story will be?

Noel also sells songs... he sold 'Kill You' to Eminem in 2000

I like the way the first reply to this thread was a complete overreaction

Columbia was an instrumental until The Real People asked if Noel wanted some words for the tune, the "there we were...." line is theirs. Noel was accused of Damon Minchella I think for ripping of a song that Marco Nelson of The Young Disciples wrote and played to Noel. Minchella seems like a bitter vagina though.
I'm sure Noels stealing doesn't limit itself to The Beatles or The Kinks, he may very well have ripped of some mates tunes too but I don't think he'd ever pay someone for a tune, how much would that hurt his ego?

Yeah, cos a nobody guitarist would turn down 50k. I don't believe the story for one minute, but Aziz Ibrahim is Ian Brown's right hand man - he co-writes songs with him, plays on his albums and supports/plays as part of his band on tours. £50k won't be THAT much to him.

Why is this sooo hard to swallow for most of you? artist, do this type of shit ALL THE TIME!!! What sucks is that the ones that buy the tunes, don't have the balls to say so publicly. Now this is not the only song/verse/chorus Noels prob tried to buy, hey at least he tried to pay for it Early Oasis work has a lot of similarities to the Real Peoples self titled debut lp which came out in 91. great great album to listen to if you LOVE early Oasis. If indeed Noel did try to purchase said track from Aziz, who cares.

Ringo gave him BACK OF BOOGALOO to use for IF I HAD A GUN but now Noel's confused about why Marc Bolan's lawyers are sniffing about...

I wrote a song when I was hungry a few years ago called 'If I had a Bun' next thing Noel writes If I had a Gun and I'm left both hungry and ripped off. FML.

The only reason The Real People were credited to Rockin Chair was to give them royalties for Columbia or Don't Go Away. Otherwise they had nothing to do with that song. He only gave them 'credit' on the Masterplan album . They are not listed on the actual Roll With It CD.

Yeah, true that. Although I've read an interview with RP where they said Rockin' Chair sounded like one of their old songs.

Don't believe that he would buy an entire song but I don't think that it's out of the question that he would pay to lift some of the lyrics/melody. He certainly has a track record for that.

I still don't believe liam wrote I'm outta time. It's a classic Liam song. ;D Unorthodox structure, some slightly shit lyrics which should have been changed (e.g. "Got to keep on keeping on") and basically finished within 3 minutes.

Keep on keeping on was originally keep on keeping strong. It's a line I actually like though. I know that, which make it even more perplexing why he didn't at least leave it as it was. "Keep on keeping on" doesn't even make sense. Not sure how much help Liam gets, you'd think if Gem and Noel were helping him that they'd at least make him finish his songs. So many of his songs are out of ideas after 2 minutes, which is frustrating because there's usually a decent outline of a song there.
